Question about consciousness and ownership

1.I personally think consciousness is the constant knowing of the experience as an enduring fact. Whatever is happening, it is unavoidable and any attempt to avoid consciousness as the necessary basis leads to non-sense and denial of the basic characteristics of the experience. It is hard to put into words, but it is the fact of the fact. Existence of anything at all is the simultaneous proof of consciousness being there.

I'm not sure if this is a correct way to describe it in Buddha's terms, literally everything else seems to be very easy to recognize, but consciousness seems tricky

So the questions are :"how correct do you think this explanation of consciousness is? is it correct in Buddha's terms? do you have a better pointer to what consciousness is?"

2.Ajahn seems to put a lot of weight on the phrase "we are the owners of our karma" and I don't experience that weight and seeing this gap I wonder: "why is there so much weight being put on this phrase?"

It appears to me that I cannot grasp what it implies, what effect it's supposed to produce, what's the real meaning behind it and so on

Nobody knows anything and those who know know even less

Do you know what is the best way to excuse your lack of knowledge and low IQ? Declare that nobody knows anything, this way you don't need to learn anything

You already know everything, no need to do anything~

People say "stop seeking and you will get enlightened"

Why do people become seekers instead of just being enlightened

Crazy stuff, use your fkin brain please

Suffering as Feedback

I've started analysing and questioning my choices more attentively and have a question based on that.

If I do something and immediately experience suffering already as I am acting, does it automatically mean that the action is unwholesome or it could be something else as well?

For example I noticed that harsh speech immediately results in suffering, but maybe not everything is as straightforward as harsh speech

The infinite support loop

I'm applying to ride for ubereats and I had an issue with my application and so I need to contact support to send me a new link...

  1. The button to contact support disappeared, it just sends me to the help pages
  2. I said "f-it I'm gonna call them"
  3. I call them and it says "go online and press the button to chat instead"
  4. button still doesn't exist
  5. going crazy as I'm completely muted from receiving any support and from completing my application that was basically 99% done. this is insane

If you have any clue what is going on please share

The cause of suffering and Not the cause of suffering

I thought I'd share a thought that occurred to me.

Once again, I stumbled upon the excerpt from the suttas saying that "even if highway robbers were to cut off your limbs one by one, one who gives rise to hatred is not carrying out my teaching." I also remembered Ajahn's words: "because hatred is not in the robbers."

And it struck me from a different angle.

If there is plenty of proof that craving is the cause of suffering, then it also gives rise to a simultaneous perspective:

"That which is not craving is not the cause of suffering."

This seems to undermine the persistent view that the cause of suffering can be found elsewhere.

The conclusion I draw is that anything that can be defined by the mind simultaneously defines that which it is not

Dependency on silence

I moved to a new home and it is a constant bombardment of sharp like daggers noises. The mind is turning it into hell and I'm suffering insomnia and sleep deprivation(slept like 6 hours in 3 days, can't fall asleep), have restrained my actions on account of it and am trying to understand the process with the hope of overcoming it.

I have doubt to what extent it's even possible, considering I'm autistic and have sensory issues? I don't fully trust science or psychology on their evaluation of anything related to suffering, but have no personal point of reference to say otherwise.

In short I just don't want to waste time on pointless suffering, yet there seem to be no alternatives. If anybody dealt with this same issue, please share your experience on how successfully you were able to overcome it through practice

When there is silence present I'm tense and preparing for the next noise to happen

PS: I should've named the title "Dependency on permanence of silence"

Question about meditative states and their role

The idea I got is that Buddha experienced deep meditative states before attaining to nibbana, but realised that coming out of those states it wasn't enough for full liberation and that suffering didn't end

So the idea I am getting is that modern meditation techniques don't lead to full liberation, (stuff like watching your breath) yet the states Buddha reached were deeper than jhanas

So I am curious what role do these meditation techniques play in the practice if any? Is an Arahant watching his breath the same as Arahant doing any other activity(as in it makes no difference)? Or can an Arahant reach deep meditative states, following this logic it would be nibbana+deep meditative states, no? Or do these meditative states matter only to somebody who isn't an Arahant(as in affect only those yet to attain Arahantship and cease to matter uppon reaching nibbana)?

I don't know so I thought I should ask

Celibacy, Ordination and taking care of the body

Recently the thought of becoming celibate stopped feeling like a burden. A thought occurred to me: "Intimate relationships lead nowhere, so why not choose a different path when it's available?" and I felt very unburdened by this contemplation.

Then the thought occurred: "Then why not ordain, if lay life is so burdened?". So I realised that celibacy is the gateway out of lay life and away from all the burden

But the issue I have with ordination is that I won't be able to tailor my diet the way I want and it might be random and perhaps even incomplete, it really seems like negligence towards the body

I would like to have a healthy diet, exercise, sauna and all those things that keep the body healthy and keep it running in good condition for as long as possible like a well maintained machine

I'm interested to hear what Ajahn and other monastics and practitioners think about this idea

Is dhamma practice strictly a solitary path with only temporary connections for the sake of practice and learning with eventually abandoning even that or is some form of connection required and lack of it turns into self-mortification?
