Finally! Community Town Hall for the Downtown DOVA Project (Oct 20)

Finally! Community Town Hall for the Downtown DOVA Project (Oct 20)

Hey everyone, looks like we’re finally getting a formal town hall to talk about the proposed Downtown DOVA Project!

The city is hosting an informational meeting where staff and the project team will be presenting what’s actually being planned and taking questions from residents. Given how massive this development could be for Rancho Cordova (7,500-seat arena, hotels, housing, retail district), this feels like the right time to show up and hear the details directly.

Here are the event details:

  • Date: Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026
  • Time: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Location: Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Drive)

If you’re planning on going, definitely get there early. These high-profile meetings tend to fill up fast, and we want to make sure actual local residents get seats in the main room rather than packed-out overflow spaces.

If you’ve been following the project or have questions about traffic, timeline, funding, or local impact, try to make it out.

More info on the city's project page: https://www.cityofranchocordova.org/residents/new-businesses-and-projects/downtown-dova

Who else is planning on going? What are the main questions or concerns you're hoping they address?

Supporting a Rancho Cordova downtown doesn't necessarily mean supporting the DOVA deal

The Rancho Cordova Independent just published a useful article on DOVA and the city's financial role “DOVA advances as city explains financial role”

I thought the article was reasonably balanced overall. It explains that the much-discussed $185 million figure isn't an upfront check to the developer, and it also acknowledges that projected future revenue isn't guaranteed reimbursement. Those are important distinctions.

But what caught my attention was developer Joshua Wood's response to the article, which was posted on The Grapevine's Facebook page.

Wood wrote that “hundreds showed up in favor” of the project and thanked the Chamber, labor groups, community and church leaders, youth sports coaches and athletes, neighborhood leaders, and residents who “fought for our community to have a downtown.”

I don't doubt that DOVA has significant organized support. The 7-0 Planning Commission vote is also a fact.

But I think there is an important distinction getting blurred here:

Supporting the idea of Rancho Cordova having a downtown is not necessarily the same thing as supporting the specific DOVA development agreement.

Someone can absolutely believe Rancho Cordova needs a central gathering place, restaurants, entertainment, sports, hotels and more, while still asking whether this particular deal is the best way to get there.

The developer's response also doesn't really address the financial questions raised by the article. It doesn't explain the assumptions behind the projected future revenue, what the city's protections are if projections aren't met, or what happens if portions of the larger development are delayed, deferred or don't get built.

Those questions matter because the vision being promoted is much larger than the immediate project.

The DOVA concept is being presented as a future downtown with an arena, restaurants, hotels, housing, entertainment and other development. That's an attractive vision. But the Council isn't voting simply on whether Rancho Cordova should have a downtown. It's voting on a specific set of agreements, financial commitments and developer obligations.

So I don't think the useful question is:

“Are you for or against DOVA?”

I'd frame it this way:

Can we support the goal of creating a downtown while still demanding that the City Council scrutinize the actual financial and contractual terms of the DOVA deal?

I think residents can reasonably answer yes to both.

Calls & data dead on Visible in Sacramento — Downdetector is clear, already tried standard fixes. Anyone else?

My Visible service is completely dead right now in Sacramento... neither incoming nor outgoing calls are connecting, and cellular data is down.

On top of that, when I tried to log into visible.com from my laptop on home Wi-Fi to check my account or hit up support, the site threw a 403 Forbidden Error.

  • Location: Sacramento, CA
  • Device: iPhone 15 Pro
  • Status Check: Downdetector for both Visible and Verizon is currently clean/flat, so nothing official has registered on the heatmaps yet.

Troubleshooting already completed (none of these worked):

  • Toggled Airplane mode (left on for 30s+ before turning back off)
  • Disabled and re-enabled the eSIM line in settings
  • Hard restarted the phone multiple times
  • Performed a full Reset Network Settings
  • Verified billing is current and account is active

Is anyone else in Sacramento or Northern CA experiencing a localized outage right now, or did Visible's backend provisioning system melt down?

Thanks!

Did you encounter Kathryn Krick online before March 2021? Trying to reconstruct her early TikTok growth

I'm researching the early growth of Kathryn Krick/Five-Fold Church and trying to reconstruct what actually happened between late 2020 and spring 2021.

Krick has retrospectively described a TikTok video posted around Dec. 30-31, 2020 as an early breakthrough, reportedly reaching around one million views. I haven't yet found a contemporaneous screenshot or archived TikTok record that verifies that number or when it was reached.

I'm looking for people who encountered her content at the time, especially before March 2021.

If you remember seeing her then:

  • Approximately when did you first encounter her?
  • What platform was it on?
  • Did you already follow her, or did the algorithm recommend the content?
  • Do you remember the late-December compilation/highlight video?
  • Was Krick already appearing repeatedly in your feed in January or February 2021?
  • Do you remember approximately how many followers/views she had?
  • Did her content seem widely circulated before the deliverance videos began gaining attention in spring 2021?
  • Did you save screenshots, links, videos, comments, or posts from that period?

I'm especially interested in dated screenshots, saved TikToks, old links, contemporaneous posts, or other material that could establish when the audience growth actually began.

I'm not looking to debate Krick's theology here. I'm trying to establish the historical timeline and determine whether the late-December 2020 video was actually an inflection point, or whether the major acceleration happened later.

Anyone know why a Greater Sacramento children's pastor/former school district employee suddenly resigned?

About two weeks ago, a children’s pastor at a local church in the Greater Sacramento area abruptly resigned. This came to light when it was reported that he was under federal investigation.

In response, the church quickly took action to manage the situation. They cut off the live stream feed during the announcement, removed his name and bio from their website and Facebook page, and have refrained from issuing any public or written statements to members since then.

It’s worth noting that this individual had previously worked for a local school district in the area. Given the church’s complete information blackout and the school district’s involvement, parents and community members are understandably concerned about the safety of the children.

I’m curious to know if anyone has any insights into what transpired or if there have been any notifications from the local school district regarding a staff resignation in the past two weeks.

Heads up: DUI checkpoint in Rancho Cordova this Friday (Aug 7)

Rancho Cordova PD posted that they're setting up a DUI and driver's license checkpoint this Friday night (Aug 7) running into early Saturday morning (Aug 8), from 7 PM to 2 AM.

They haven't announced the exact location yet, but they'll be checking for license validity and signs of impairment.

A few things they highlighted in the notice:

  • Impairment isn't just alcohol—weed, prescription meds, and even certain over-the-counter drugs count.
  • A first-time DUI lands at around $13,500 in fines, fees, and penalties, plus a suspended license.
  • They said they'll try to keep traffic moving so delays are minimal.

Just a reminder to lock in a DD, Uber, or Lyft if you're going out or taking anything this weekend.

Rancho Cordova City Council approves an additional $40k in subsidies tonight [UPDATE]

This is a follow up on the post from a while back about Rancho Cordova subsidizing that new downtown/housing project.

The City Council approved an extra $40,000 for it at tonight’s meeting, bringing the total subsidy up to around $980k.

Here's the Sac Bee article covering it (heads up: paywalled).

How are people feeling about the city putting even more money into this?
