how realistic is it to actually land a hiwi job at athene as a bachelor student? and does tu darmstadt actually support self-learning outside of the regular coursework?
hey guys,so i'm starting my cs bachelor at tu darmstadt this coming winter semester and there's a question that's been living rent free in my head for weeks now and i genuinely can't find an honest answer anywhere, not on the uni website, not in any forum. maybe someone here actually has real experience with this. how realistic is it to actually land a hiwi job at athene as a bachelor student?
like i don't mean "technically possible according to the website," i mean what does it actually look like in practice. are the spots basically going to master's students and phd candidates while bachelors just kinda get ignored? or does a motivated first/second-year actually stand a chance if they reach out early and already have some basics down (python, a bit of security stuff, that kind of thing)? does it even matter if you haven't taken the "official" courses in that area yet, or do they still take you if you're motivated enough and teaching yourself the material?
and honestly the follow-up question matters even more to me: is it even worth it that early? like does a hiwi job at athene in your 2nd or 3rd semester actually help later on (msc applications, portfolio, networking with the people there), or is it more of a nice-to-have that you could just as easily pick up later during your master's without missing out on anything? i don't want to sink time into something if the impact is minimal, time i could maybe spend more usefully on certs or my own projects insteadsecond question, totally different topic but also important to me:does tu darmstadt actually support self-learning outside of the regular coursework?i want to work on stuff like comptia certs (security+, network+, etc.) alongside my studies, and generally do a lot of self-teaching (linux, ctfs, that kind of thing). is there anything from the uni that supports that, like vouchers or discounts for certifications, parallel programs, partnerships where students get cheaper or even free access to this stuff? or are you basically on your own and paying for everything out of pocket?
