Ignore Pistons taking in too much money; this hasn't been updated to the new contracts of Stewart + Sasser being gone + adding Collins and Joe + Huerter Resigning.
Pistons:
Cade TM3 Ausar Collins Gafford
Jenkins Joe Naji Holland Reed
Mavericks:
Kyrie Christie Flagg Washington Sabonis
Nemb Klay Aldama Morez Lively
MEM:
IDK they got Stew
Pelicans:
Idk, but they got their 3 FRPs
Thunder:
Just their same roster they've been running
Kings:
Acuff Nique Keegan Maxime Duren
Monk Sharp Hunter Precious Cardwell
The Pistons do not want to exceed $35M on a new contract for Duren. I misspoke on this one during the show today with everything we were discussing.
Deleted the video because of the title and Brett Siegel mispoke
The Sacramento Kings signed Emanuel Sharp to a three-year, $6.35 million deal, which includes two fully guaranteed years, league sources told @hoopshype
Pistons had to trade Sasser to clear money along with Stewart to sign Collins and bring in Joe
Why a Duren to Sacramento sign-and-trade is way harder than people think.
Let's assume this
The Kings and Pistons agree on $44M AAV for Duren, so that means Detroit is only giving up Duren while the Kings are only giving up Sabonis.
Here's where the problem comes in, and it's the Base Year Compensation (BYC)
Because Duren's new salary will be more than 2x his old salary and it's a sign-and-trade, the BYC kicks in:
On Detroit's side, Duren only counts as 50% of his new salary = $22M outgoing
On Sacramento's side, he counts at the full $44M incoming
Why a 2 teamer is just mathematically impossible
Kings are taking in $44M, so they must send out at least $35.2M, which works because Sabonis's contract for this season is $45.5M
But Detroit sending out $22M with the BYC can only take back $31.1M max
Sabonis is $45.5M, which makes it $14M over Detroit's legal limit
The only way to attempt is a three teamer where
Team C needs to be an under the cap team where room + outgoing salary >= $45.5M, and whatever player they send Detroit must fit under Detroit's $31.1M BYC limit. So something like $20M in space + a $25M player works perfectly. (Doesn't have to be exactly that either; any version works as long as the player fits under Detroit's $31.1M BYC limit and the third team's space + outgoing salary adds up to $45.5M+)
So the main issue is finding a team that can willingly take Sabonis. Which is why I really doubt this would even happen now, looking more into the contracts.
But there is also this: Detroit taking the $25M player back does eat most of their $14M of cap room and pushes them over the cap, so it only works if Detroit actually wants that player.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I did this based on Keith Smith's post about how an S&T works under the new CBA a week ago.
Sacramento Kings announce their California Classic roster with Chris Darnell as head coach.
The Sacramento Kings and Adam Flagler have agreed to a two-way contract, league sources told @hoopshype
Current projected Sacramento Kings roster: Two roster spots still open hmmmmm
The 22-year-old received a similar message of strong interest from the Sacramento Kings, who also met with Duren on Tuesday and indicated that they will continue to explore sign-and-trade scenarios to land him. Via Sam Amick
Detroit Pistons restricted free agent center Jalen Duren had a productive meeting with the Lakers on Tuesday and is scheduled to meet with them again on Wednesday morning, league sources told The Athletic.
Duren was told by the Lakers in the meeting that they view him as a maximum-salary level player, according to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations. The 22-year-old received a similar message of strong interest from the Sacramento Kings, who also met with Duren on Tuesday and indicated that they will continue to explore sign-and-trade scenarios to land him.
The third-team, AlI-NBA big man has been pursuing his options outside of Detroit ever since being underwhelmed by the Pistons' offer.
The Lakers and Kings both face a significant challenge when it comes to the Pistons, who have been sending strong signals in recent days that they will either match offer sheets that come their way or refuse to cooperate in sign-and-trades. More specifically, Detroit has no interest in a sign-and-trade with the Kings that would have sent three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis their
way.
Before we fall for the media on the Duren situation. Lets just wait to see how Scotts meeting with Duren will go tonight which should bring some light into this.
Let Scott and BJ Armstrong do what they can tonight with Duren to convince him to put even more pressure on the Pistons. Even tho pistons have all the leverage, there can be workarounds.
Duren and Sabonis's agents both work for the same agency, so I wouldn't be surprised if both their agents put pressure on the FO to figure this out.
Reminder this is what was said yesterday from Marc's article
"Most notably an anticipated sign-and-trade run at Detroit's Duren potentially involving former All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis that will begin with a face-to-face meeting with the Pistons' restricted free agent on Tuesday night."
Free agent forward Precious Achiuwa has agreed on terms to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings on a two-year, $11.5M deal, league sources tell me.
Sacramento Kings GM Scott Perry tells @CarmichaelDave & @JasonRoss1140 about his approach to the offseason with NBA free agency set to begin today:
"There's always an inflection point that comes where you say, 'Okay, here's the time to go for it' and to make that big move, maybe sacrifice some extra draft capital to bring in a player or to make a big trade that changes your franchise... My job is to always know and observe the landscape and be very prudent and opportunistic to take advantage of the landscape if we feel that's going to work for us."
