Kindness

Last month on a VERY slow Sunday morning, a guest called and asked if he could check in early. He was here for a funeral and needed to get ready. I obliged because we had the rooms and grief sucks. That afternoon he asked if some of his family could come swim in the pool even though they weren't staying with us. Again. We were dead as all hell. And grief SUCKS, so i said yes. They were all incredibly kind. The kids had such a fantastic time (they told me all about it. One girl even hugged me before she left because she loved getting to see her cousins) and they were out of the pool and gone by the time it closed! They cleaned up after themselves so nicely too!

Well, that guest was checking in again today. He remembered me, thanked me repeatedly, and tipped me $20.00 for my kindness.

Not something i ever expected. I truly was just happy making their day suck a little less. But i am so grateful to have had my kindness acknowledged and returned!

I know it's easy to get jaded working in any form of customer service. But i also know that not everyone visiting a hotel is there because of something positive or joyous. I try to keep that in mind.

Just wanted to share something positive before we head into a busy weekend!

Edit: literally so many typos. Sorry y'all. I'm tired

43 passenger?

In the first episode when Gerri and Tom are talking to Arthur, the NYT writer, when Tom says "42 passengers from the mainland embarked by sea", Gerri interrupts and corrects him to 43.

Who was the 43 passenger?

I took a break

I took a LONG break after finishing the Elderwoods, right after ranching was introduced.

I'm so glad I did.

I was contemplating a total home tear down. Which is INSANE. Insane. I have put so much time and thought and MATERIAL into my first home. I was so happy to see it with fresh eyes a few days ago. And be blown away to the detail i am adding slowly and deliberately. This is methodical for me.

I think i got overwhelmed with ideas. And tired of grinding. Hahahaha i needed a break. I picked up ACNH and started my second EVER island there (veteran 2020 player). And WOW. I approached that so differently after playing Palia for a year.

And! I came back to Palia with a totally new approach as well.

I am fully going to take advantage of the multiple lots.

And I love myself. For knowing to take a step back. And for SENSING i was going to. I came back to so much material and so much progress. And picked it right back up from where I lefr off. Only refreshed and excited again. Bless. Love this game.

Anyway. I guess that's to say, don't worry if you've been thinking about taking a break. Sometimes that's the best thing you can do when a thing you're supposed to do for fun stops being fun. And coming back is only that much sweeter(:

Trope Name?

Hello! I've seen many instances of this visual gag. Where a character is staged in front of a photo of themselves in exactly the same way as they are in the photo. And i was wondering if there's a dedicated name for this? I personally find it hilarious. Just a small bit that always manages to get a big laugh from me.

Baseball

Genuinely it tickles me to think that little league adults are so shamelessly terrible at supervising their little crotch goblins that it is known across multiple industries that they are The Worst. I often just have to say "we had a little league here last night" and the person I tell will roll their eyes, sigh, and say "god, they suck."

College baseball, however, has quickly become my favorite type of college sports team to come through. They often have a dedicated handler or two, and their job is only to act as a go between for the hotel and the team. To make sure they are fed, and to clean up after them! It's beyond wild to feel the difference in real time. Everyone is well behaved and so kind. Rooms are left in great shape, and while I never expect them to clean up after they use the lobby, it is sweet that the handlers kindly spar with me over how THEY want to be the ones to do it.

Meanwhile the little league parents are worse than useless. It's as if they think resturants and hotels come with free child care. They're often sprawled out and loudly drunk in the lobby while 30 plus kids (because of course it isn't just the team. It's the whole family) run around like they've never had house training. The rooms are always trashed, the noise complaints are endless. It's disgusting to me. I'm a firm believer that it isn't the fault of the child for having inattentive parents. But that does NOT mean I will silently allow madness in my place of work. We are very lucky that management is on our side when it comes to how we handle chaos like THIS. I'm always as kind as i can be, but I have and will kick you out and then trespass your ass if you don't get a grip on your kids.

Summer sports season is here, my friends. Remember that it isn't forever. Soon will come a day when these sorry excuse for parents are just a distant memory again.....until the next season, that is.

[TOMT] Movie or TV quote

I cannot remember the full quote. Or anything about the piece it is from. I feel like it's either Catherine Ohara or Sally Fields that says it. But could be totally wrong, maybe I'm just thinking of the delivery. It's during a funny argument. And they say "it is time to take the red shoes (or dance shoes) off! Take them off!" I know it's a man speaking to a woman. I believe the mans name has a j or g sounding first letter.

Please. Please help!

After over 1,000 hours, I finally started my second island. This one on my Husband's switch (my OG lives on my pretty, yellow, baby.) To say it has made a difference is an understatement. Hahahaha

I've been tackling this island differently than I did my original. I'm working in small sections, and trying to find a balance between the organic movement of the wild, and the firm structure of the civilized. I've also got heaps and heaps and heaps of ridiculous rules and world building going on. Because I'm well adjusted. Clearly.

Anyway, backed myself into a corner for about 2 and a half weeks. I may be time traveling, but I've got limited funds this time around. So my choices matter more. I FINALLY figured out what to do with this area. And from there i can FINALLY move onto my museum. 🙌🙌🙌

It's been so rewarding to play from the start again. I've had so much fun falling back in love with the game. I've enjoyed being able to really push the limits of what i can design and do with a space. (HHP made me a beast)

I hope you all enjoy your day, and that you find that spark of inspiration you may be chasing. (:
