Is it selfish to get a dog if I work 9 to 5?

I have been thinking of getting a dog for so long but I live alone and work 5 days a week from 9 to 5 and sometimes go to the gym after. Is it selfish to get a dog if it will be on its own for that much time? On weekends I go see my parents so it would be seeing people then.

How will I handle the inevitable death of loved ones?

I am 24yo and am extremely fortunate that I haven’t had any close family member pass away. Two of my grandparents passed while I was too young (few months old). I’ve helped some friends go through the grief of a parent which was heartbreaking.

I’ve had this irrational fear of my loved ones dying since I can remember. I know it’s abandonment issues and I’ve tried different therapies which helped me with some things but this specific fear still feels intact.

I’ve lived abroad for a few years and while I was there, a war started in my country which made me worried sick about my loved ones as I felt I could lose everything in a second.

A few weeks ago, my grandma called me because there was a fire in her house as she forgot to turn off the hub, I rushed there and took care of the situation.

But the feeling I felt before I got to their house and could assess how bad the situation is and whether her and grandpa were safe was so bad.

I don’t want for this situation to re trigger my abandonment issues but I also feel like this fear of not being able to cope when someone I love die is still very strong.

I don’t deal well with loss in general and I’m HSP and love very deeply. I want to believe that everyone will stay healthy forever and that I’ll keep seeing everyone from my fam everyday but I know it’s not the case and don’t feel like I could handle it. Even worse, I don’t know how I could ever move on with my life when I’m old, grieving everyone I have ever loved💔

Does anyone have any advice on how y’all are okay with that🥹

How can I accept the inevitable death of loved ones? If it was up to me (and I always say it) I’d definitely rather die before everyone else.

SCAM JOBS VPN DOWNLOAD

It’s the second time I apply to a job which I checked was legit, applied through the company website and did my research, and it still turned out to be a scam!!!

I got a follow up with a google form to fill about my specific experience in the field which I did. At the end of the form they asked me to download a vpn to access resources from their system. I searched on reddit and it seems that might be a common scam.

It’s infuriating that assholes want to exploit every vulnerable situation out there. It’s already exhausting to apply for jobs in this job market, now I’m spending most of my time applying for jobs that don’t exist which is making me reluctant to put too much effort in real applications in case they end up being fake.

It’s almost impossible to tell because even applications on websites can be a scam now. The amount of effort that people are willing to put to scam others! Might as well get a real job!

Feeling: angry

lol

My ex broke no contact then ghosted me (24F, 30M)

My ex (he asked for a break and then I broke up and moved countries) recently texted me out of nowhere asking how I’m doing (text sent at 11pm), and when I answered the next day he ghosted me. What does that mean?

He texted making sure I’m safe and asking about the situation because I moved to a conflict zone three months ago. He sent a check up text when I first moved here (it was nice and we casually chatted), and went silent for a few months, only to text again last night (although the situation is quieter now), making sure I’m safe. When I answered explaining about the current situation and asking how he’s been and what’s new in his country (where I previously lived), he ghosted me.

I’m upset because I was excited to catch up about him and the city I used to live in. I’m also frustrated that he broke no contact, bringing back emotions and what ifs, just to then ghost me which seems unfair to me that I didn’t even get to know what he wanted. It’s making me want to say something or not let it slide as if nothing happened. I’m also concerned he wanted to talk to me about something and then changed his mind (we still took each others’ advice on some things even after we broke up).

Has anyone done this before or knows why he might text to just then ghost? Would it seem desperate if I double text to know what this was about? Any ideas what I can say?

Any advice would help! Thanks :)

How much AI usage is ethical at work?

I know a lot about the effects of AI on the environment, but unfortunately I’m having to use it at work to keep up with the expectations of faster results with AI. I try my best to reduce usage as much as possible but I was wondering if there is a number of questions per day that’s considered ethical?

I feel bad that my work expects me to use it now as I know how bad it is for the environment:(

How to heal from toxic/ manipulative management? Pls help

Sorry for the long thread! Any advice would help <3

7 months ago now, I filed a complaint against my manager. She had been newly hired and had issues with all three members of our team since she joined. She was clearly not qualified to manage people, and didn’t have any skills required to be a manager, but she got the job because she’s the CEO’s best friend.

She first had a thing against my other teammate, to the point of causing her to have a panic attack in a 121. The CEO knew about it and ‘solved it’ without informing HR or our boss’ boss. She liked me then and confided in me etc.

The other teammate got offered another position in a different team. Then, I seemed to become the manager’s problem. I very quickly went from being an overachiever, working on projects praised by the ceo, director and all the teams, to her pointing out ridiculous non existing errors just to prove she’s ‘managing’ me. She started criticising literally any thing I do, like telling me ‘do you not have any task to do?’ and assigning me a few more if she sees me stand up to go to the bathroom. She got into my head as she kept telling me I’m not good enough but that ‘she’s there to help me become good because not everyone can get this job you know?’ and other inappropriate comments. She was even following me around if I go to the kitchen to see what I was doing if I went to get water.

It got to a point where she out of nowhere put me on a PIP when in our last performance meeting I had just asked how I can improve and she had said I’m fine. When asked what I should work on in my PIP she listed 5 things she was lying about like that I didn’t reply to an email until the day later even though I told her I was off sick, lying that a task was mine to do but it wasn’t, and she used to get so passive agressive in those meetings. I would be feeling great about my work (I initiated a new scheme for our team which was a huge success), until meeting with her, then she always made me feel like shit. For example in one training project we had, I designed a whole program and delivered it and she wasn’t at all useful when I was asking for feedback or directions while creating it. When it was done her only feedback was that I left the mic open for online attendees during the 5 min break, and she gave me training for ‘online meeting etiquettes (lasting 10 hours) which she wanted me to do in one day (???) alongside my usual work.

Anyway, my whole team was gravely affected by her as well for being incompetent but she had a thing against me in particular. I went to HR and the director so many times and went with all their options of solving indirectly but it kept getting worse. When she wanted to put me on PIP I had no other choice but to file a complaint as my wellbeing went so bad, I was crying literally everyday and felt so anxious at work, that I’m about to do something wrong.

The complaint process was LONG but it was upheld. However, when I read the report of the external HR, they had had a meeting with the director (who had told me she’s supporting me throughout the process etc.) and turns out she told the investigator about me that ‘she has gotten to a point where she doesn’t want to believe anything else other what she believes is happening’ keep in mind she had HEARD many of the inappropriate comments my manager gave me and told her off so many times and knew how bad she was. The manager who was appointed for me during the investigation, told me the CEO had warned her of some problematic issues I had (said didn’t believe them because she had worked with me before and knows how hard working I am, and she was very supportive).

I think having everyone turn against me really affected my self esteem and got me thinking whether I was actually just shit at my job and just wanted to make a scene. The constant gaslighting I went through, and having to stand my ground while all the managers were gaslighting me and trying to get me framed as underperforming or just being stubborn while I let her treat me like shit for a year.

I left the job two months ago and moved countries, and while job hunting/ interviewing I feel scared to end up with someone horrible and going through that again AND I feel huge imposter syndrome about my capabilities even though I have always been quite confident and an overachiever.

Did anyone go through something like this and can share some tips about how to heal from it and not take it personally? Any advice might help :)
