Struggling to raise my copper and have no idea why its low

Been struggling with severe brain fog, depression, anxiety, physical fatigue, very low WBC and neutrophils.

I’m working with a hematologist. All my labs and hormones are normal. EXCEPT Copper.

Serum copper was 67 and Ceruloplasmin 16.
24hr urine copper test was <5(very low).
From my reading online, you can get symptoms from values like these.

Also, I have no IBS, no celiac. Colonoscopy was normal. I do not have Wilson’s disease. Liver is heathy.

I have been talking 2-4mg copper bisglycinate daily for 2 months. My serum copper went up to 70 and Ceruloplasmin 17. I have no improvement in symptoms. So my doctor thought my issues are not copper related but then when he saw my WBC and nuetrophils improved, he said that might be a good sign that it is copper deficiency.

He scheduled me to get copper infusions tomorrow.

My question to all of you is why would it be low in the first place and not raise up with pills? My doctor says idiopathic copper deficiency. He cannot give me an answer which bothers me because I want to get to the root cause.

My only other thoughts was that I might have asymptomatic SIBO which I should test for as my ferritin was also low and drops over each month…. I also read about how vit A deficiency can affect ceruloplasmin production. My value for that was 49 (range is 33-99). I saw a post of a guy who was on the lower end of normal for vit an and he started taking vit an and his ceruloplasmin jumped from 17 to 23 in a month…

Please share your thoughts? Thx in advance

Would a longitudinal AI summary tool actually be useful in outpatient psychiatry?

Before a scheduled appointment, the clinician receives a concise longitudinal summary with trends, charts, symptom trajectories, medication timeline, and relevant changes since the last visit. In between appointments, the system asks follow up questions here and there to the patient.

I don’t know how I feel about my size. The dimensions throw me off lol

5.75in L
5.5in G

When I look down, it just looks stubby or short. From the side it looks longer. However, I feel if it was thinner, it would look longer. Like the girth makes it look short. I’ve never had a woman make a negative comment but i also never received a compliment or anything like that. So I have mixed feelings and insecurity about it. I also am a gym bro and have thicker thighs and hands so that also makes it look smaller in my eyes. I’m 6ft and lean with muscle (186lbs). Anyone relate to this?

To those who recovered from copper deficiency, how long did it take to recover and become symptom free?

Initial values: Ceruloplasmin 16 mg/dl, serum copper 63mcg/dl

Been taking 2-5mg daily copper for almost 4 weeks. Getting retested in a few days. I can’t say I have improvement in my symptoms yet. I’m getting impatient…

AI recommendation for scientific and medical research?

I’m ask a lot of medical questions and do quite a bit of research on topics I’m interested in. Right now I’m using ChatGPT. I was using Gemini but feel like it was making BS up.

What’s the deal with three arrows heme iron currently? Have they made any changes to the negative claims about it?

I was considering buying this product but I came across several posts about it being not properly tested, it not containing actual, saw a post say that no iron was detected in their supplements and plenty of people saying they labs didn’t improve while taking it.

Wondering if now in 2026 the situation has changed as I know they have had some lawsuits. Anyone have more knowledge about this? Experience with taking this brand? Did it help you or not?

Copper supplements are making me extremely depressed, fatigued and brain dead. Explanation for this?

I’ve been suffering with depression, low libido, anxiety, fatigue and brain fog for a while. Found out my serum copper and ceruloplasmin were very low. I started taking 2mg of copper bisglycinate daily. Within a day or two, it’s like I’m having paradoxical depression. I feel so depressed and fatigued. I would think I would feel better. Can anybody explain to me why this is the case? Suggestions?

I started taking 2mg of copper daily to fix my deficiency and all of a sudden I’m having extreme fatigue, depression brain fog. Any explanation for this?

Suffering from depression and brain fog due to copper deficiency and low Ceruloplasmin. I would think raising it would fix it. It’s like I’m having a paradoxical depression since taking it.

Does anyone experience fatigue when they take a supplement in bisglycinate form?

Whether it be a multivitamin or an individual supplement, if it contains bisglycinate or glycinate, i get fatigued. Like a depression feeling. I don’t like it at all but im not sure if it’s just me or not. Does this make any sense?

How much copper to take for deficiency? What is the common protocol?

Copper serum: 63mcg/dl (70-175)

Ceruloplasmin: 14mg/dl (20-35)

Zinc: 90mcg/dl (60-130)

Ive been feeling fatigued, severe brain fog, absent libido, poor memory, depressed like.

What is the optimal range for ceruloplasmin levels? Mine is 16mg/dl(14-30 range)

I’ve read between 20-35 is good but I’m seeing mixed results. Idk why my lab has such a low cut off.

I also suspect I’m copper deficient because I’m been treating low ferritin and over time, I’ve been feeling worse. I’m aware that iron repletion can cause other mineral imbalances, especially copper. So I’m ruling it out.

Should I be aiming to raise my lab level?

New to this community. I need some clarification on a few things.

Long story short, I’m recovering from iron deficiency without anemia. My ferritin was 26, now 60. A couple months into supplementing iron, I noticed was getting severe fatigue, depression. Symptoms were worsening.

I was told to make sure my other minerals were in order as iron repletion can cause imbalances. Everything seemed fine except for copper.

-Serum copper 71 (70-170). It’s probably even lower now.

-Ceruloplasmin, I never got checked.

Now I’m taking a multivitamin that contains 2mg copper in it. I feel a tad better but idk if it’s placebo as it’s only been 5 days.

Note: zinc good, b12 great, thyroid good, D3 good

Basically I have 3 question:

  1. Optimal serum copper value recommendation/goal?
  2. Optimal ceruloplasmin value/goal?
  3. Dosing guide? Is 2mg enough to raise it? What’s the general guideline?

Thank you all in advance. I know it’s a lot lol

Why am I getting so fatigued/depressed every-time I take iron?

Does this happen to anyone else?

I take roughly 20-40mg of heme iron every other day.

Ferritin went from 26 to 60.

My issue is that every day is just feeling like shit. I’m thinking this iron is supposed to help me but it makes me no mentally numb, fatigued like an hour after ingesting it and lasts all day. Why does this happen?

I’m also taking a multivitamin to make sure I don’t become deficient in anything else while repleting my iron.

Is there any explanation for this phenomenon? I don’t know what to do. I can’t imagine feeling like this for much longer but at the same time I know I need to keep raising my ferritin so it’s a difficult situation for me.

New to b12 supplementation. Need guidance.

I’ve been suffering with severe brain fog, depression, absent libido, fatigue.

I’ve been addressing my low ferritin for a few months now by i don’t see much of a difference. Ferritin went from 28 to now 60. I will continue to raise it.

My WBC are very low for some reason. They don’t improve as my iron improves. Hematologist won’t give me a reason why. I’m not anemic.

My serum b12 is 900. I’m currently waiting on my MMA results.

Basically, it seems that I have symptoms related to b12 deficiency but of course my doctor dismisses it. I’ve read the serum tests mean nothing. But also that even mma doesn’t matter. The only way to rule out deficiency is to just keep taking b12.

Today was my first day taking 1000mcg methylcobalamin tablet.

Is this an appropriate dose? What is a dangerous dose? Should I take it daily? Raise my dose? How long can I expect to feel some difference if I do truly have a deficiency?

Sorry for the long post. Thank you in advance.

In terms of ranking from most efficacious to least starting with 1mg daily as the gold standard, where do you rank these 2 above mentioned dosing protocols(most to least efficacious)?

With 0.5 eod you get more dht inhibition but with 0.25 daily you get better frequency so it’s hard for me to decide.

I know the serum half life is short but the tissue half life is 30 days and I believe it takes about 2 weeks after your last dose for you dht to return almost back to normal.

Thoughts?

Entering around the 4th month mark and just now starting to feel a bit better. Nothing crazy yet but I feel like it’s potentially heading in the right direction. Fingers crossed.

Please share :)
