Am I thinking too much?

I'm a year 12 student and I've recently been reading example personal statements which got students accepted into Imperial/oxbridge or top UK unis and their supercurriculars lowkey sounds more impressive than mine. I've been researching about whats important and whats not in a personal statement for a while now so I'm always hearing that reading beyond the syllabus is important but successful personal statements seem to demonstrate something more. and I'm wondering if it isnt just the reflections but also how 'impressive' the supercurricular is? For example, MOOCs are significantly less impressive than using your school lab to conduct primary research on an unexplored area of biology if you exclude reflections. Maybe theirs seems more impressive in comparison since i'm still on my first draft?

Are there any successful applicants who can confirm/deny this?

Also good luck for results day guys!!

What was your favourite chapter in 'The Gene: an intimate history' by Siddhartha Mukherjee?

I haven't gotten too far in the book yet, but I would love to hear about some of the chapters readers have particularly enjoyed. Also I've heard that the chapter on epigenetics was misleading due to overemphasis on the role of histone modifications and DNA methylation in trait inheritance, can anyone also explain that?

What are some interesting books relating to biomedical sciences or molecular biology?

I am enjoying 'The Gene' by Siddhartha Mukherjee atm, but I would also like to know some other books that uses slightly easier language so please give me some recommendations!

Edit: thanks all for the recommendations, I am currently reading about 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks' and it's already super fascinating because how on earth did I not know the existence of HeLa cells..

University students who have attended summer schools..

Hello everyone! I am a Year 12 student studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths for my A-levels. I'm due to attend a global summer school for medicine and life sciences at Imperial College London at the end of June and was wondering how applicants typically incorporate experiences such as this into their personal statements.

For those who have successfully applied to Medicine/Biomedical science courses, how have you guys presented your summer school experience in your PS?

Maybe it's because I actually haven't attended it yet and I'll know afterwards, but I'd appreciate it if you guys could just briefly give me an insight for now! Thanks a lot.
