My hair is green

I’m a natural level 7 that had been box dying and my hair was super orange. I wanted to go darker with high dimension and highlights that pop and tone down the warmth. I think my hair looks green.

I know my highlights lifted very light. My hairdresser put a toner on it and I think it made it too blue and honestly a little green.

I have washed it 3 times since, the most recent time with a clarifying shampoo and baking soda. It’s still ugly in my opinion? Idk.

Maybe I just need more time to get used to it. But I sort of want to take a dye remover and go back to being a bright blonde idk.

Not sure what to do next

I went to a hairdresser and I think she got me pretty close to what I asked for, but honestly I don’t like it. I think it looks green. I wanted to cancel all the orange I had (level 7 been box dyeing lighter and I was turning orange) which we did but now i don’t like it. Idk. Idk how to fix it. There’s a toner on here, could I remove it somehow, and see how that looks? Should I do a warm toner? I want red tones though, not orange. I think my inspo pick was kinda red. Idk. Thoughts??

Looking for books that are subtle in their messaging (spoiler for The Secret History)

I am trying to figure why I like some books so much, and dislike others. I am beginning to notice a few things: use of cliches, interesting plot, "good" prose (I'm not sure what makes prose "good", yet), and subtlety of messaging. Subtlety might be one of the biggest things for me, I think.
As an example, I read "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt at the beginning of this year, and I really enjoyed it. It was, among other things, a critique of rich kids, and I think one way the author really showed that was in the last chapter, when we discover that Francis, a gay man, is going to marry a woman he doesn't so much as like, much less love, because it will please his family, and they would cut him off financially otherwise. The main character, Richard, asks why he doesn't just work a job like a normal person, and he responds by saying he "doesn't know how" (or something like that, I don't remember what). This shows the absurdity and helplessness of wealthy young people, while refraining from outright saying "rich kids don't know how to do anything themselves", and I think that it's
really good.
Now, I just started "Atmosphere" by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and I am having trouble getting into it. Part of it is that | really don't like the writing, I read "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by her a few years ago and felt a similar way. But more than that, it is not subtle, at all. For one, the main character is "not like other girls". She goes to a party and talks about how she would much rather be at home with a book. She takes a break after work and the narrator says "not by going to a bar, but by going for a good run". She only wears makeup because she was bullied into it by her (much girlier) younger sister. I think it is fine to have a character who is different and maybe doesn't fit the traditional mold of a "woman" that existed in the 1970s. But you can be subtle about it.
And in perhaps one of the more excessive examples of Reid not understanding subtlety, she portrays the sexism experienced by female astronaut candidates as a couple of misogynistic jokes by "bad"characters, to be corrected by "good" characters, followed by a page long rant from our main character about how sexism is wrong and women who laugh along to sexist jokes are contributing to the problem. She's not wrong, in any sense of the word, but it isn't subtle, and it doesn't do justice to the true extent of sexism in the workplace in the 1970s, which was often somewhat covert, practiced by people who may have otherwise been good, in a way that led women to being confused about who was on their side and who wasn't. It was structural, damaging to a woman's self worth and confidence, and often times somewhat disorienting and typically very complicated. Reid boiled it down to some jokes with a little rant afterwards and called it a day. It almost It almost feels like she wanted to check the box of "sexism? got that covered!"
I am not far into the book so maybe there will be some better writing but idk. So far it is just not good.
But I feel this way about a lot of fiction.

I like fiction but I like it to be good. I like lit fic and I like Donna Tartt and I liked “a tree grows In Brooklyn” but I do not like Taylor Jenkins Reid and I don’t really like Kristin Hannah and I don’t know who is writing books that are good??? I want to read contemporary stuff but it is not good?

Why does canva make an image huge when I try to move it?

I add my pizza slice image. Just by clicking on it from the “elements” page after searching for pizza. It appears on my flyer. Then I try to move the pizza, by clicking and dragging. Suddenly, the pizza is huge? Taking up the whole page? It did this with multiple different elements id try to add. Then it like wouldn’t even let me adjust it once it was huge?

I tried opening a blank flyer (new project) and it stopped happening for some reason on the new flyer?

Please god let this be my final muzzle update

I broke down and just ordered a green guard halter. I don’t think you necessarily need one for the muzzle to work but you definitely need one that fits and mine didn’t. I had the weaver one and honestly its proportions are so weird I don’t know what horse it would fit???

Anyways I think this looks good. I’ll send pictures to green guard for their input. They have been helpful thus far. I monitored her a bit and she didn’t get around the muzzle like she was doing in the past!

Why does the FAA still teach “left brain right brain”?

Flipping through my FAA aviation instructors handbook and I’m surprised at the insistence that students can be left brained or right brained and that it’s important to know which your student is as a CFI.

Left / right brain has been debunked for like 30 years. The book also stresses the importance of “learning styles” which have also been disproven (people may think they have a specific learning style but there’s no evidence that individuals learn better one way or another). A simple Google search would dispel this stuff??

This book is from 2023. I know the FAA doesn’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to being smart about psychology (eg their archaic mental health rules) but man I did not know it was this bad!

Comfortable bras for 28/30 E? Looking for solutions

Hello,

I got a panache cari that “fits”, it’s snug and everything in the right places (band doesn’t move etc) and I do like how it fits but it has this little lace stuff on the edge of the band that I find scratchy and I can’t wear it for more than a half hour without getting severe back pain. I got a band extender and the problem persisted. I think I maybe just can’t wear bands that fit “correctly” because if theyre as snug as they’re supposed to be they give me back pain? Idk

Anyways I would like to look for more bras that I may like (currently don’t wear anything wired bc they’re not comfortable) but I don’t know where to start. I don’t like anything lace (scratchy) and I don’t like the super pointy look some of them give you. I have tried bravissimo (in my correct size) but didn’t like it, Victoria’s Secret (they don’t make my size), panache and freya (the freya spacer was super uncomfortable). My measurements put me in the 28E, but even trying a sister size with a 30 band hasn’t helped. Idk what to do. I can’t find my size in any bra that’s comfortable

Right now I wear these little wireless bras I get on Amazon and they’re pretty comfortable but they’re cheap and don’t last long and stretch out quick and I think the bands are too big from me even in the smallest size :(

For which programs would I be competitive? What should I do to enhance my resume?

I want to apply to graduate programs in urban planning in 2 1/2 years and this is what my resume will hopefully look like at that time:
Bs psychology from RI (not prestigious) state school, 3.8+ GPA
Coursework in math (calculus, linear algebra) stats (regression analysis, spatial stats) and GIS certificate with some coursework in architecture
Fellowship with my states survey and analysis center where I was the main researcher on a study of alcohol misuse and pluralistic ignorance. Published study in mid tier journal as main author
3 summer internships in planning
Lots of independent work (founded local strong towns (urban planning advocacy group), wrote extensively on planning and traffic issues facing residents)
Commercial pilot and flight instructor (previous career)
Work experience in airport operations
Extensive research work as RA and then co author on study in spatial cognition
3 outstanding letters of rec
from professors and employers
Very strong SOP tying my rural and aviation background to urban planning
For which programs am I competitive? And what should I do to strengthen my application?
I am considering adding a minor in geography

I HAVE RULED OUT: selenium toxicity, Cushing’s, had a normal blood panel, and have had her on a biotin supplement for over a year.

First photo is 2023, second is the other day. She was 15 in the first and is 18 in the second.

Some have said it’s just something that happens with this coat color as they age (she’s a rose gray), a gradual thinning and lightening of the mane? Is that true?

I miss her thick mane so much 💔

(This is like, part 3 of my grazing muzzle saga. You can search this sub for the rest).

I think I am just going to order a halter and straps from green guard (the company that makes this muzzle) directly. It’s expensive but I think it’s what I need to make this actually work correctly and be comfortable for my mare. She needs to wear it all the time. So it needs to be good.

Anyways I ordered a conversion piece that makes her halter into a green guard halter by adding the center face strap and also some soft lining for the nose band and and crown piece. But I still feel like it doesn’t fit super well. Also I worry a little that it’s still too close to her lips but then she’ll move a bit and it’ll fall down further away again so idk it’s finicky.

But the center strap sorta slides to the side. The last photo is what happened after she wore it for a while.

Anyways the extra Velcro straps are nice and do their job to keep her from eating more through the gap but they’re sorta sloppy and I worry about them rubbing or be too strong or too weak.

I know she is making a face like she’s being tortured I promise you she is not she’s just dramatic

Posted about my green guard grazing muzzle issues the other day and I have made some adjustments:

  1. I tightened the crown piece a bunch in order to raise the noseband of the halter onto the bone, off the cartilage.

  2. Because this increased the distance from the halter to the nose, I had to increase the length of the straps on the muzzle.

  3. I added 3 Velcro straps to each gap on the back, and one on each gap in the front. This is so she can’t slide her bottom teeth out of the muzzle and eat a bunch that way, which she was doing. These straps are easily breakable (I broke and then fixed them myself a few times to be sure).

I made these adjustments as I was watching her eat. I’d fix it and then put it back on again to see how it looked and if she could get around it. I ordered a conversion piece for the halter which adds padding and a soft material on the crown piece and noseband, and has a strap that goes down the center of her face which will keep that center strap on the muzzle in place. It isn’t here yet. Should be this week.

At this point the only part that really bothers me is the neck strap. It’s too loose so it sits funny on her jaw which actually makes it look too tight. It isn’t tight when she’s standing normal and relaxed. But I don’t love the way it fits. It’s the weaver breakaway halter and I really don’t recommend it. It has super strange proportions. The green guard halter has an adjustable neck strap and looks to be better quality. I wish I had gone with it.

Anyways this is where I’m at now. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

▲ 1 r/Hair

So I want my hair to be less orange (like the last photo, I think it’s an AI photo but I still think the color/tone is something achievable? I know it won’t get exactly like that without a trip to the salon). I got it done at a salon last fall and it turned out really blue (second to last picture which I didn’t like so I did a couple rounds of dye remover). Is it not possible to tone out the orange without going darker like the second to last photo? Maybe I need to actually bleach it to get it lighter and then tone it? I say this because I have used purple shampoo / a purple mask / wella t18 with 20 volume and still orange :( I’m a natural level 7 and I box dye every 4 weeks

Is it unsafe to snap this neck strap to the buckle instead of the O-ring? This halter doesn’t fit her super well and I’m having trouble keeping it on in a way that doesn’t allow her to slide her muzzle off of her face. The leather piece is a breakaway piece. The last two pictures show how she can kind of slide the muzzle up and away from her nose and eat more. The first picture is how much she’s able to slide it with the neck strap buckled to the O-ring and the second is with the next strap buckled to the buckle. I first noticed her slip her nose away from the muzzle today, and then I decided to make these adjustments. At the time, she was eating some grain, and even with sliding the muzzle up over her nose she was still having a really hard time. Which is what I want to see. I was feeding her the grain as more of a test than anything. So I made the adjustments and I didn’t see her slide it off her nose again. I specifically made the straps between the muzzle and the halter tighter, as well as changing where I was buckling the neck strap, and then I also tightened the nose band. I hate how her muzzle rubs, she has some hair loss on her nose, but I honestly can’t let her out without it at all. And I already can’t tell if it’s even effective enough. This horse is obese and has been on a diet for a while, when I keep her in a pen and restrict her to 15 pounds of hay per day, she does great, but she really likes to be able to walk around with her friends. So I got her this muzzle. But in one week with a muzzle on grass, she ate a ton and gained weight back. So I took her off of it for another week, and just looked at her on Saturday, and confirmed that she had lost weight again. So I put her back on pasture with a muzzle except this time I had gotten an insert for the muzzle that makes it even more restrictive. I was hoping that this would be enough. But I honestly wonder if it isn’t, and I wonder if she will need an even more restrictive muzzle somehow. I measure her every week. So I just measured her on Saturday, and it’s been two days of her being back on pasture with this muzzle (with the insert though so it’s more restrictive than before) and I measured her again today and it seems like she has either maintained or perhaps even gained weight. But it’s hard to say, especially with it only being two days.

Hello,

I am in a rural red/purple town and wanting to start a Strong Towns local conversation. I’m in the beginning steps now and think there are people who will welcome the idea (farmers and ranchers upset their land is being eaten up by housing, disability advocates who are interested in making the town more accessible, people who want more affordable housing) but I also worry about pushback, though I intend to approach everything very carefully and with grace and compassion and respect even for those who greatly disagree with our message.

How has the experience been? Have you been welcomed? There are many local commissions I plan to recruit from / attend the meetings of (traffic safety, urban renewal, disability advocates) and I have many people who I know would be interested.

In the worlds of both urban planning industry and academia, is strong towns looked upon fondly?
