Sober influencers

Looking for some new sober/recovery creators to follow!
Who are your favorite influencers, content creators, podcasters, or people on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. that talk about sobriety or recovery?

They don’t have to be huge accounts, I almost prefer smaller creators.

Who has genuinely helped or inspired you!?

East Bearskin (EP 64)

Devastated. Just realized my permit is for East Bearskin (EP 64) and not Daniels/Duncan like I thought. I had my heart set on taking my husband to Rose Lake for our first trip together.

We only have two nights and my husband isn't super experienced, so I don't want to push him on an aggressive route. From what I can tell, getting from East Bearskin to Rose Lake in two nights would be a lot.

Has anyone spent time on or around East Bearskin? Is there enough to keep us happy for two nights, or are there any shorter routes worth doing from EP 64? Would love any campsite recommendations or hidden gems in the area. Trying to turn this into a positive!

Restaurant people: help me break out of the Google algorithm.

Every time we look up restaurants in the Twin Cities, Google seems to serve up the same 20 places over and over again. Some of them are great, but I know there are tons of incredible spots that never make the “best restaurants in Minneapolis” lists.

I started keeping a running list of places that caught my eye or were recommended to me, but I’d love to hear your favorite hidden gems, neighborhood spots, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, underrated cafes, ethnic restaurants, supper clubs, bakeries, markets, or anywhere else that deserves more love.

My list so far:
Joan’s in the Park
Pig Ate My Pizza + Nouvelle Brewing
The Creekside Supper Club
Buster’s on 28th Avenue
Alleycat’s Gourmet Sandwiches
Ono Hawaiian Plates Central
All Saints Restaurant
due focacceria
Midori’s Floating World Cafe
May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative
Cafe Racer Kitchen
Seward Cafe
Pimento Jamaican Kitchen & Rum Bar
Herbst Eatery & Farm Stand
W.A. Frost & Company
Tongue in Cheek
Mercado Central
Al’s Breakfast
Gigi’s Cafe
Canteen
Little Tijuana Neighborhood Lounge
Estelle
Hmong Village
Meritage

How do people actually keep up with events in Minneapolis?

I feel like there’s constantly something cool happening in Minneapolis, street fairs, neighborhood festivals, concerts, markets, cultural events, random pop-ups, etc. but somehow I always hear about them after they already happened.

Is there one good resource that actually keeps track of everything going on in the city? Website, Instagram account, newsletter, app, whatever. I feel like I’m missing out on half the fun of living here.

Swimming Spots / Cliff Jumping

Minnesota people — my husband and I are always looking for great swimming spots with rock/cliff jumping around the state. Could be up north, river spots, quarries, hidden lakes, whatever.

We love those classic summer spots where you hike/paddle/walk in and end up jumping into deep clear water all day.

Not looking for dangerous “send it” spots — more scenic, fun places with good swimming and safe jumps. Curious what everyone’s favorite spots are?

Swimming Spots

I’ve been going to the BWCA for years, but I tend to stick to the same general areas/routes and thought I’d ask around for some good swimming & rock/cliff jumping spots.

Not looking to do anything reckless, just fun scenic spots with deep water and good swimming. Would love recommendations, favorite lakes, or routes with especially great swimming!

Looking for permits August 9-14

Hey everyone! I am trying to bring my husband to BWCA for his first time ever! We currently have two permits booked but are hoping to shift our trip earlier in the week because his work changed.

If anyone is looking to swap/coordinate a cancellation/rebook, we'd be very interested in an entry date around Duncan, Clearwater, East Bearskin, Daniels, etc. between Aug 9–14 and are happy to exchange either of our current permits if it helps someone else’s plans!

Current permits entry dates:

  • Aug 15: East Bearskin (OP)
  • Sep 12: Daniels Lake (OP)

If anyone is planning to cancel a permit in that Aug 9–14 window or wants to coordinate timing, feel free to DM me. Thanks!
