Reverse Purl Stitch

EDIT

Can I use the backward/Reversed purl stitch method to create standard knitting patterns, such as stockinette stitch and rib stitch, successfully without having to learn conventional purling?

I'm a left-handed knitter with a disability that makes standard purling difficult, and I'm looking for an alternative that will allow me to create these patterns correctly.

I've watched countless YouTube videos and of course I can test this out by practicing however because I'm such a beginner everything looks incorrect so I simply frog.

The funny thing is I've knitted a scarf with the garter stitch and that's 400 rows and yet I cannot do the purl stitch correctly.

First attempt at knitting (Left Handed)

I’m a brand‑new knitter well into my 30's! My mum (right‑handed) helped me start the first rows, but I knit with my dominant left hand because my right hand can only hold the other needle.(I have a disablity).

I can manage knit stich/garter (if that is what it is called) and have watched youtube tutorials, but I really struggle with purling, my yarn keeps drifting and my rows end up mixed.

I’m still learning tension, can’t cast on or off yet, and I’m practicing on one type of needle.

If anyone has tips for left‑handed knitters or ways to keep stitches tighter and more consistent, I’d love the advice.

30 Days - Personal Best!

I've never walked purposefully everyday. That changed in June this year 🤓

Running with Mild CP

I have mild CP (hemiparesis) that affects my right side. I was advised in my 30s to wear an AFO, but I’ve never really used one because I struggled to find shoes that worked with it. My gait is not too bad but my ankle does roll over and sometimes I don't even know until days later.

Last year I started walking for my health. My ankle does get inflammed or injured but it has reduced. I keep going on the days I can, and it’s helped me lose weight and become healthier.

Now I’m thinking about trying the Couch to 5K programme. Has anyone here run with CP, with or without an AFO? I’m nervous because I don’t want to keep injuring my right ankle, but I’d really like to try running.

Do you think running is something that I can do with Mild CP?

Personal Best May - June

40 day streak and surpassed my low 3k Goal on most days. I can't believe I've walked 5 weeks straight!

I started walking in June 2025 and haven't walked this many weeks in a row. Yay 😄

Feeling down - Advice Appreciated

Been doing IF for over a year, lost about 8.6 kg, mostly 16:8 with the odd 20‑hour fast. I walk anywhere from 3k–10k steps. ( I even added progress pics in this sub)

Since March I’ve been stuck at 64.5–65.5 kg. I want to lose another 9–18 kg, but even my slow goal (1-2kg/month) has stopped.

I haven’t changed much, some days I eat an egg and toast lunch with yogurt and fruit along with a ready meal which has the portions labeled 600-900 dinners.

Never counted calories before and still lost weight, so I’m not sure what to adjust now. Do I tighten my eating window, try OMAD, or start tracking?

Also I have health conditions which means I injure my ankle often this prevents me from gyms or heavy workouts, even walking causes issues but it's better than no movement. So I can't aid the calorie deficit as quickly as others who can exercise more.

Any advice is appreciated!

33 day Streak.

I have had my Fitbit watch for a year without being familiar with it's feature. However I realised I'd never walked 30 days straight, so at day 27 I found out what a Streak meant! First time for everything. Hoping to walk over 25 days for the next few months 🤞🏾

A good day

My Ankle is feeling it after a 27 day streak. If I hit 30 days that's the longest I've walked or exercised continuously since I started walking last year in June!

Hoping I can do this as I may need a rest day! I'm not aiming for 12k tomorrow though. I have a disability which means my ankle is prone to injury often but the feeling I get after outdoor walking is amazing! I'm not about to stop just slow down.

Two outdoor walks

It's been weeks since I've walked two times outdoors. I'm thinking I can try two 40 minute walks next week.

I'm very tired but the weather isn't too bad!

May - back on track!

I haven't walked or exercised this many days since January ths year.

The steps I posted were from last week only, but the best numbers of the month.

Hopefully I can continue this in June July and August.

6 am Walk!

Never in a million years did I think I’d walk out of the house at 5:55 a.m., but here we are. The UK heatwave won't catch me out ( at least till midday) I’m not walking in peak heat.

Honestly, It was one of the most peaceful walks I’ve ever had. Thirty minutes, 3,300 steps, and I didn’t see a single person. Completely surreal.

If the weather stays like this, I could get used to early‑morning walks! First time for everything.

Feeling Human Again...

It's been 2-3 months of inconsistent walking but this weekend I went outside and decided to restart.

It felt so good! 🙌🏽

To reach 10k I did pace 500 steps around my room!

1 year IF Progress.

SW: 73 kg
CW: 64.3 kg
GW: 54–45 kg

In one year I’ve lost 8.7 kg through 16:8 IF and walking. I didn’t hit my original 12 kg goal, but there’s progress and I’m proud of it!

IF feels completely normal now. I can’t imagine going back to eating three times a day. Still working toward my goal range, but happy with how far I’ve come.
