LET ME EXPLAIN
“You liked him when he was masking” that’s the thing, during the pilot we (or at least I) didn’t really know anything about Jax nor his backstory and what his role would be. From what I knew at the time I thought he was gonna be a side-character who’s an a$$hole that genuinely didn’t care that much. Is it one dimensional? Sure, but he didn’t hog all the screen time and I found him genuinely funny. Afterwards he just became more and more of an ab*ser, a huge misogynist, mocking everyone and trying to be funny (and failing miserably)
Now don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t an angel or anything. But compared to now?? He kinda was. I would’ve loved to see his lore explored in a better way, balanced out with the rest of the characters instead of randomly becoming the star of the show. Not to mention he caused 2 of his friends to abstract yet we’re supposed to feel sympathy for him?? Not to mention he’s such a poorly written self-insert. Self inserts are perfectly fine when they’re done right but my god was he not a good example. “You are my PLAYTHINGS” “I get joy out of making you SUFFER” felt like something straight out of a 2017 gacha life mini movie
He was always an a$$hole don’t get me wrong, but he was more tolerable if that makes sense
I honestly think the main reason I like pilot Jax way more is because he’s a clean slate I guess; a character you can interpret the story, personality and lore of when they had missed potential. But I’m well aware that it’s a PILOT and the pilot versions of characters are always different from their future version.
TLDR, I would’ve enjoyed Jax more as a side character who genuinely didn’t care rather than a character who hogs up all the screen time (ESPECIALLY in the finale) only to get genuinely more hateable with each passing episode

And sorry if this didn’t make any sense, again this is my point of view and my opinion. And I’d love to hear yours. (However, I will delete this if I get harassed) It’s great if you like the finale and Jax’s characterization.
