How to wire Tesla Remote Meter to TWC via RS485

How to wire Tesla Remote Meter to TWC via RS485

I installed a Tesla Wall Connector last year on a 30A circuit, bringing my garage subpanel to its capacity (98A on a 100A panel). Now I'd like to install the Tesla Power Meter so that I have headroom to install a 240V HPWH, and if necessary to update the TWC to 40A or 50A to support a second EV.

My question is how to wire the RS485 cable.to the TWC. I'd prefer to not fish the RS485 through the EMT conduit. It appears it's permissible to wire it separately but my question is how to enter the TWC. The bottom knockout is available, but I can't find a clear answer on whether that's permissible.

The Tesla doc itself only says:

"• Use 16 AWG shielded twisted pair cable to extend RS485 harness as needed.

NOTE: The 600V-rated cable must be used if this wiring is to be run through the same conduit as the

power circuits (if not, 300V-rated cable is sufficient)."

Confused: Model Y 70kW, EV6 150kW

Hot California day, and I for one didn't need preconditioning. The Tesla Model Y charging next to me at the Ionna $0.20 days (thanks Ionna!) was getting 70kW while I was getting over 150kW, at about 65% SOC each. Is that their perhaps cold battery or something about the architecture?

Or just a blessing on me for driving a Kia as an Ionna customer?

Adding Neurio monitoring to TWC

I've been using a Tesla Wall Connector on a 30A circuit for 9 months and love it. Now I'd like to add a HPWH to my sub panel, but need some load management to stay under 100A.

How practical is it for me to install the Neurio monitoring myself, and will it work for me to do that on the garage subpanel? I have the necessary TeslaOne login etc to order the Neurio and configure the TWC.

A licensed electrician installed the TWC and I could go back to them for the install if necessary. I will certainly use them for the HPWH install because my AHJ requires permitting.

Help me understand when matches can be rescheduled

Hi, I'm looking to get to a Liverpool game in May 2027. Apart from the eye-watering prices for "hospitality packages" I'm trying to understand how EPL games could be rescheduled because of:

* Champions League

* FA Cup (if Liverpool have progressed)

Am I understanding it right that Champions League games played Tuesday/Wednesday don't affect Saturday dates?

If a match is rescheduled, does it typically move from Saturday to SUnday rather than by weeks?

TIA for any advice!

Not loving Premium

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I've tried several one day road trips with and without ABRP Premium and don't think it adds much.

To be clear, I use ABRP to plan out my stops before driving, but once I'm in the car, Premium doesn't help me for two big reasons:

  1. Despite my adjusting the consumption rate to reality, ABRP is still way too pessimistic, being off by 10% SOC or more. That changes a two-stop trip into a one-stop.

  2. If because of #1 I want to replan while driving ABRP makes it extraordinarily difficult from the Android Auto screen. And the flaky connection method via Enode doesn't help.

Counter-intuitively, because the AA screen is a stripped down version of the full app, it's harder and MORE distracting to use.

Google Maps has been tinkering with its add stops/replanning for years and generally seem to have found a balance between too much distracting stuff and capability. Maybe ABRP can take some inspiration from the workflow without risking legal problems?

And don't get me started on how ABRP still doesn't properly allow for charging speed limitations like a 2024 vs 2025 Kia EV6 at Tesla SCs

256kW at Tesla Supercharger

A true v4 supercharger just opened to non-Teslas near us (Campbell, CA) and in a quick test starting at 48% SOC I hit 256kW at 53% SOC on our 2025 EV6. It dropped to about 180kW at 55% SOC.

This is an urban charging station, but hopefully more of these will start to become available for road-tripping.

"Ground-mounted solar" for off-grid EV charging

I'm on NEM1 in California and limited in both space and PG&E rules about adding more rooftop panels. I realize that charging from a few ground-mounted panels is giving maybe 10kWh/day max, but I'm interested in the equipment you'd actually need (other than the panels) to make it happen, and what would that cost?

Looks like the new Campbell site (1600 W. Campbell Ave) is open for non-Teslas. So if you're in the South Bay this may be more convenient to test out than Redwood City. Based on my experience in Redwood City I'd suggest going with <30% SOC.

I'm getting bombarded with reddit ads for Flair. Does anybody have an opinion/experience? I mean I know: it's reddit, so probably nobody /s
