Corporate 9-5 people of Calgary, what does Stampede week actually look like for you?

This is my first year working full-time during Stampede, and I feel like I’m missing out. I want to embrace it and experience the city, but I honestly don’t know how to coordinate it with work. By the time I’m off, get home, and think about getting enough sleep for the next day, it feels like the day’s basically over.

Do you go straight from work to the grounds? Meet friends after work? Take vacation days? Just do the stuff happening on weekends?

I’d love to make the most of Stampede too, so I’m curious how everyone else go for the experience and balance it without feeling overwhelmed/ missed out.

I watched Trainspotting (1996)

“Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?”

What I’ve always loved about it is how it walks you through everything in this weirdly nonchalant, chaotic way. It never feels preachy, even when it’s showing some genuinely awful things. One minute you’re laughing at something ridiculous, and the next you’re watching one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie.

It’s also one of those movies where every character somehow feels like the main character whenever they’re on screen.

And for a movie that’s this dark, it’s packed with so many random, insanely quotable lines. I’ve seen it countless times and it still feels completely unique.

Hey everyone,

I’m starting an internship on May 4, and I just finished finals, but I had to defer two exams. They’ll fall during my second week, so I’ll need to miss two days pretty early on.
I don’t have the exact dates yet, just that it’ll be that week.

I’m a bit stressed about how this looks since it’s so early and first impressions matter. Is this usually seen as a reasonable situation, or could it hurt how I’m perceived? What could happen?

I’m also meeting my manager tomorrow for the first time (she’s showing me around since she won’t be in the office my first week), so I’m wondering if I should bring it up then even without exact dates, or wait until I can confirm. What’s the best way to handle that?

Part of me has thought about just calling in sick for those days, but that feels like it could backfire…

I want to handle this professionally while being honest. Any advice would really help, thanks!
