Indian students' experience in UNIMAS

Hi! I'm a student from Semenanjung who recently got UNIMAS, and I'll be starting there soon. I'm Indian, and one thing I've been wondering about is what the experience is actually like for Indian students at UNIMAS.

I know UNIMAS is generally described as a multicultural university, but I'd really like to hear from people who've actually studied there, especially Indian students, other Semenanjung students, or Sarawakians who have Indian friends/classmates.

  1. Are there many Indian students in UNIMAS, or are we quite a small minority?

  2. Is there an Indian student community/society, or do Indian students generally just mix with everyone?

  3. How easy is it for Semenanjung students to make friends with Sarawakian students?

  4. Did you ever experience feeling culturally out of place or isolated?

  5. Are there any differences in food, festivals, language, religion, etc. that an Indian/Semenanjung student might need to get used to?

  6. How's the food there? I know there will be little to no Indian food😭but are Chinese and western food available?

Most importantly, what was your experience actually like, rather than just whether UNIMAS is “good”?

I'm asking because I'll be moving quite far from home and I'm honestly a little nervous about fitting in 😭. I'd really appreciate honest experiences, including negative ones if there are any.

Trying to stop a fight between stray cats

Hi everyone, I need some advice about a situation with two stray cats I’m caring for.

I’m currently caring for two stray cats: Harry (male) and Millie (female). Millie was the first stray cat I started feeding, and Harry came later. They are both outdoor cats, but recently they have been having conflicts, especially at night/early morning.

I decided to get a cage for Harry as a temporary solution because Harry is the one who stays near my house/my neighbour’s house most of the time, while Millie is more of a roaming cat who comes and goes. Before this, Millie would usually come around 8 to 9 pm to eat and leave, but sometimes she would return again around 3 am or in the morning, and that is when fights between them would happen.

I bought the cage specifically to keep Harry and Millie safe overnight while I sleep and to prevent fights. My plan is for him to stay in the cage for around 5 to 6 hours at night only, not permanently. During the day, Harry is out and he also sometimes goes into the cage by himself to rest or sleep, so he doesn’t seem afraid of it. However, at night I have to carry him and put him inside because that is when Millie is more likely to come around.

I’m now worried that I may have made the wrong decision because I’m afraid the cage might be too small for him. I found bigger cages online after buying this one and I feel bad that I didn’t research enough beforehand. I don’t want him to be uncomfortable or stressed.

Unfortunately, I cannot bring either of them inside my house because I already have a dog who is very possessive and would not accept another cat. I also don’t think I can take on another pet long term because I will be leaving for university in around 1 to 2 months.

I have considered neutering/spaying, but unfortunately I cannot afford it at the moment. From what I researched, the cost can go up to around RM400, which is currently beyond what I can manage.

For people with experience caring for outdoor/community cats, is using a cage overnight as a temporary safety measure okay if the cat has ventilation, water, can stand/turn around/lie down, and is allowed out during the day? Or should I consider another solution?

I really want to do what is best for both Harry and Millie and I would appreciate any advice. Please, I know it might seem dumb that I am asking this and yes I made a lot of mistakes coz I don't know how to handle this issue so please don't be harsh on me as I am trying to get a solution. It hasn't been easy because I feel very anxious and stressed out due to this so please if anyone knows what to do, let me know. Thank you.

Veterinary in MSU

Hello guysss, just wanna ask if there's anyone currently studying veterinary in MSU college? I hv been thinking abt my options and I now only hv either MSU or Indonesia as my choices to study vet. So I'd like to know some insights on how is it like studying vet at MSU? and I heard the fee is rm 370k - rm 380k which is really expensive for me since im not exactly frm a rich family so id like to know if there's any scholarships available? I am just a bit skeptical about it since there were some people who said private unis tend to scam regarding the scholarships n discount stuff. So yes pls help me out if any of u hv any relevant info, thank you!!!

How do you find your spark?

I have always wondered how some people just know what they have always wanted to do. The certainty and the determination, how do you find what's your passion? What you are meant to do in life? I thought i always knew what I wanted which was veterinary since I have always loved animals but now that im older, I don't even know if that's what i want. I don't know for certain. And I'm so scared that I might regret not doing it but at the same time, I'm scared what if i regret doing it...? To those who ended up doing the dream course, did you regret it? And to those who didn't, do you regret it? I just wish someone would tell me how to know if that's really what u are meant to do coz I am so lost. With my uni applications opening up soon, I am just so confused and indecisive.

Feeling like I am never good enough

Hey guys I recently got my stpm result and well it's below 3.0. I am a science stream student and am very disappointed because I had hoped that I could at least reach a 3.0. I just feel devastated because ever since I was in primary school, it's always a near miss or me not getting what I want. Even for spm, it was a near miss and stpm, well I got super close to 3.0 but still not close enough.

These repetitive patterns have just made me believe I am just not good enough no matter how hard I try. On top of that, to make things worse, relatives and neighbours have started asking about my result. I can see that my parents are maybe embarrassed and disappointed too because some of their friends' children are studying overseas while some are very exceptional students who are studying in ipta for courses like med.

Seeing all this has honestly made me feel just like worthless and useless. Sometimes I feel like I am just a waste of space on this earth because I truly am not capable of anything. I unfortunately do have any talent too so the only thing I was counting on was my academics. I unfortunately don't have friends and have social anxiety. I have not done or accomplished anything in life to make my parents proud of me.

I am not being pessimistic, it's really how I am. I did try thinking that maybe I am not that bad but at the end of the day, these constant misses are just a proof of what I am saying is right.

I guess I am posting this here because I just want to vent. I don't have anyone I can talk to irl because I'd just get the same response like suck it up or this is life or just won't have anyone listening to me. If anyone is in the same boat as me or has been, feel free to share how u feel and how u got out of it n became better. Thank you for those who read it till here!

Feeling things too deeply

Hey guys I just wanna vent a lil bit abt myself. So im someone who's very sensitive and constantly overthinks 24/7. Problem is i feel like this has made me anxious n restless all the time that I gen cant be happy wo feeling sad or down. For example, when I see strays, I genuinely feel so sad n bad for them bcz I can't help them in any way besides feeding them n I can't adopt every one of them as I don't hv the means too. Even regarding spaying or neutering, I dh the financial means too n am still under my parents roof so I cant do much.

So I gen feel sad bcz I wonder how lonely they would feel in this cruel world. That's how I constantly overthink and I end up just not being able to enjoy anything.

It's not just about my love for animals, it's also myself personally. I can't stop overthinking abt the future and my family members. Whenever my family member feels sad, I start overthinking n getting anxious thinking that they might be in some trouble (due to some past events) n then I start feeling restless coz I wanna help but dk how to.

This is really kinda ruining my life coz nowadays I cant feel happy at all thinking abt the cruel n negative side of this world. If I feel happy for a moment then I suddenly see any young kids begging at a place, I feel instantly sad n im back to feeling shitty n depressed. Idk how to stop it n I feel like im the only one who feels rhis way bcz everyone else seems to know how to live life n be happy. I just wonder how do people find the joy in life despite all the horrible cruel things behind it.

So yeah it's just something that has been in my chest for a while now and I wanted to get it out. If anyone feels this way too, pls do share ur feelings n thoughts n id appreciate some advice on how I can stop this.

Already subscribed but Prime keeps asking me to subscribe to Amazon to continue watching

My Prime membership stopped working because the old payment card expired. We already updated to a new card and payment has been made, but the account still says I need to subscribe and I did try contacting customer service but no one was on the call. And I am from Malaysia btw.

Okay so as the title says, right now I am waiting to go to uni which will be in September and it's my break now. The upu fasa 2 currently ongoing and yeah I haven't even made any decisions regarding the choices bcz I have been feeling so lost and confused.

I actually didn't get called for the iv session of my preferred course so now I'm clueless as to what I should put for my upu since all the iv courses aren't available. I do hv backup plans like other courses I hv slight interest in but somehow when I do research on them, I feel like it's either it's too saturated or has a low job demand in malaysia.

So yeah n on top of that, im literally unemployed n I hv been looking for jobs but to no avail, haven't gotten any coz most places want full time. I also hv been feeling demotivated to actually get myself out of the hse to go continue looking for a job coz I just feel like it's not gonna work out. Yes ik I shouldn't be negative but my first job exp wasn't exactly great which makes me anxious now to wanna start another job.

Atp idk what i hv been doing this past few months bcz im literally unemployed and I don't go out. Yes I don't hv friends to hang out w n am not very close to anyone rn. I literally talk to chatgpt lol to heal my loneliness. So yeah just wanna ask if anyone feels the same as me n if u guys hv any advice on how to overcome this phase which is full of uncertainty? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys so since all the iv results have come out, I just wanna ask if there's any way we could do rayuan if we didn't even get called for any interview for the top 4 choices we put in our upu. For context, I'm a stpm leaver n I had applied for;

  1. Vet in upm

  2. Vet in umk

  3. Pharmacy in usm

  4. Forensic in ukm

However, I didn't get called for any iv session. The thing is my sem 3 n ulangan results are still not out yet together with the overall result so idk if I'm supposed to do rayuan now or after my results are out. N my question is can we even do rayuan to get called for an interview at least? Or is rayuan just for those who failed the iv n one another chance? Coz I really am interested in vet and i know that direct intake is an option but that's also competitive n expensive as well. What do I do ? Would appreciate some useful advice and opinions, thanks!!!
