[30/M] Tired of waking up with notifications

I’m a 30yo dad in Texas, I have been told I don’t look like I’m from around here (I’m not). I grew up in SE Asia, each of my siblings sailed to different continents and we keep in touch by snail mails. It’s interesting how different you communicate with ink and paper instead of a sentence at a time as with DMs. Snail mails keep me grounded, so I thought why not make more friends this way.

I know a little bit of everything but not an expert at anything in particular. Whatever topics interest you, I’m sure I can make a conversation as long as it’s not pop culture. From cosmology to quantum physics, literature and poetry, to politic and economics, we can have a civilized debate or a safe place to take refuge in thoughts and ideas. Our conversations can be like Nietzsche and Buddha walk into a bar, or Hemingway’s reunion with Ezra Pound.

Stories and fascinations are what I seek and share, from older folks who lived through different times, fresh souls who find everything that’s wrong with the world, and everyone in the middle who is just as confused as I am.

My letters have no borders as long as yours are the same. It will be written by hands with one of my fountain pens, or typed with my 1960s Olympia SM4. Message me if you want to exchange addresses, or send me yours if you want me to write you first. It maybe a start of something that last, or it may not, there is no commitment. Like Leibniz said, it’s the best of all possible worlds.

(Almost) Grail Aquired

It’s funny how most Agatha Christie posts I have seen on Reddit are either randomly found on the street or from the bottom of someone’s closet… Behold: my biggest Facebook Marketplace find.

It’s allegedly never been used and sat in the box for 33 years. The resin is spotless, the silver serpent has a nice patina, and the Agatha Christie signature remains unfaded.

My first typewriter

I’m a proud owner of a brand new-to-me 1960 Olympia SM4. It has front-facing keyset tabulator to set and clear tab from the key, and a built-in touch regulator to adjust key tension, and, my favorite, a famously resonant margin bell.

[WTS] Sailor Pro Gear Sakura Nagare - Prime Minister Gift

Album

Verification

This is the Sailor Pro Gear Sakura Nagare - Japanese’s Government gift to veterans and families of those affected by war. Its history is well discussed here on this group from previous posts.

It features the Paulownia crest of the Japanese government. It is hand finished with traditional Maki-e, Urushi lacquer, and Raden inlay, creating the “Sakura Nagare” design of cherry blossoms drifting on water. The raden reflects deep blue and violet tones under light. Fitted with a 21K Hard Medium nib.

The pen is in great condition, it has almost no visual signs of usage, except for the ink cartridge is taken out of its seal and plugged into the feed, that’s why I’m giving this a B because it likely has been inked before. The set comes with original wooden box, papers, Sailor wipe, and a letter from Yasuo Fukuda (Japan’s Prime Minister from 2007-2008). The letter is dated 2008. The silk around the ink bottle is stained from spill during shipping. I purchased this set from a collector in South East Asia and had it shipped to US myself.

Price: $950 including shipping CONUS only.
For those who are interested, let me know if you want a FaceTime or meet in person in Dallas area.

My current lineup

I draw sketches with the Lamy, write letters with the MB 149, sign with the MB 146, practice Spencerian with the Ultra-flex, daily journal with the 1911L…

Then I got the Pilot 823, it was supposed to be my travel pen. Now it does everything and goes everywhere. The rest became my desk princesses.
