Remember when it snowed?

5th July 2011 according to thw date on the jpg..

The weather system that brought this snow up here was not dissimilar to the the last bad bout of weather with a cyclone in the tasman and anticyclone out east sucking the cold air up and over us.

Mr Hare

We only have one pest in our planting project. Mr Hare. He loves cabbage tree and toitoi. If a planter bag is blown off he eats it.

To think of all the greens available, but he likes a high fiber diet!

Pikarere Farm..

According to fake book, Ngati Toa have successfully won the tender to buy pikarere farm south of Titahi Bay. This is awesome news as Capital Kiwi south of Titahi Bay has been so successful they need to expand.

The farm has fresh water lakes, Kohekohe bush and numerous gully regeneration into bush.

We have already had a kiwi walk up the coast and across Titahi Bay, now we can expect to have them living next door...

Ngati Toa purchased a gully at the end of our street and have planted it this winter. No more horses leaning over the fence and munching our trees.

Same site 10 years later..

The holes for planting was done with a post hole borer. The horses had eroded all the top soil off this ridge, it was just rotten rock.

Wetland

For those thinking of planting a wetland, go for it. This was our first. All the flax grown in old fish bins ( still have the original ones) in budget warehouse potting mix.
