I feel betrayed (two-time return offer)

Guys, I just feel like I need to write this off my soul.

I worked for Amazon in Germany for two years in Retail while doing my Master’s degree. Not as a full-time employee, but as a Working Student (it’s a German thing — you work part-time for up to 20 hours a week (full-time in semester breaks if applicable) while pursuing your degree full-time). As you know how work at Amazon is — it can also be more than 20 hours. You can therefore imagine life is pretty stressful sometimes.

Those two years were actually great. I got extended twice (one-year original contract, two 6-month extensions). My two managers were great as well, had cool colleagues, I performed very well, and overall really liked the job. Hence, I wanted to return as an FTE.

I received a return offer two weeks after leaving, but couldn’t accept it as I wasn’t able to graduate in 2025. I spoke with the recruiter and aligned to receive a new one once positions opened. It was a long odyssey to receive a second one due to layoffs, but I received it around mid-June and was originally happy to convert. Long story in between those two offers.

I was shocked once I received the actual offer. They cut the total comp down from around €65k ($74k) to €54.5k or so (around $60k). While the first one was an okay offer for my education, the second one is close to criminal. I thought it was a mistake at first, but comp had indeed been decreased after asking the recruiter again. Not negotiable.
For your information: After taxes, I would’ve paid around 50% of my net income on a single-room apartment (Munich is expensive), which is totally unacceptable. And also the same they pay a stranger graduate with a Bachelor’s. My former colleague received a 12% increase. So it’s just for entry-level roles.

I declined the offer, also for different reasons and so on, but hell — I was a top-rated employee as per every piece of information I had, and I just feel bad.

Thanks for reading, just needed to be said. I know its a business and honestly from that point of view I can even understand it. Just sucks anyway

Opas Traumwagen

Röstet meinen Erstwagen (damals in 2019)

Just bought this beauty

So guys I just finished my Masters degree in February and wanted to treat myself a little bit.

It is now my 4th BMW (e81 - e91 - f11 and now this f32 435d xDrive). Absolutely loved the first two ones, the f11 was awesome technically, but never really felt in love with it.

I looked for months, don‘t know how it‘s in other countries, but in Germany it was quite hard to get my hands on a 435d that a) is maintained well, b) hasn‘t really been floored to death, c) isn‘t irreversible modified and has the specs I wanted (ACC and HUD).

I then saw this beauty, driven by and older couple and perfectly maintained. The husband absolutely loved this car, only washed it by hand. Has been to service every 15-20k Kilometers at BMW (the last one alone 1k kilometers ago cost about 3k Euros). He unfortunately passed away last year and his widow wanted to get rid of the car, as she had no use for it anymore. I could really feel her pain as she sold it. Promised her to keep treating the car as her husband did. Cherry on the cake was they originally picked it up in a smaller town 500 Kilometers away. It ended up being the city I just completed my Masters degree. So maybe I was meant to buy this car?

Got it for an awesome price. I could‘ve maybe even paid less, but didn’t want to rip off a widow.

It is completly stock, don‘t like to shadow line it. What would you change? Throw me your suggestions and enjoy your sundays!

German roast my car was absolutely butt cheeks, please leave no prisoners behind

Off topic: Bought it as a reward for finishing my masters. Previous owner was an older man who treated it like his baby. He unfortunately passed away last year and his widow had no use for it anymore. Promised to keep treating it like it has been.

Cherry on the cake was he originally picked it up from the same town I did my Masters degree in (altough living 500 Kilometers away).

Now, let the roast begin

I can‘t find one and I‘m freaking out

I‘m searching for one of those and can‘t seem to find it (in Germany). Even cars that are going to get butchered are mostly shadow line.

With time I will find one but heck, I can‘t imagine there isn‘t someone selling those.
