I feel like the show trying to start redeeming someone like sera as early as season 2 has kind of jumped the gun way too quickly in terms of scale of redemptions.

As you can't exactly get much bigger than genocide actions wise so really it feels as tho it would have made more sense for the show to slowly build up actions wise with the characters it redeems which people claim the show is doing with sir pentious

But instead they kind of just jumped from 1 to 1,0000 and now all future redemptions are just going to feel small by comparison and like they should be way easier given we literally just redeemed a genocidal leader with not very much effort,

But now redeeming smaller scale people like angel or husk or even other major antagonists like vox is meant to be seen as challenging both to the characters and to the audience in terms of the idea of redemption?

Even though you've just made redeeming a character with the biggest crime imaginable seem easy and like it isn't really all that challenging both in terms of getting the person themselves to change but also in terms of how the world around them and other characters react to it and also in terms of how the audience overall feels about it,

Another way to look at it is like if steven universe redeemed the diamonds in season 2 rather than at the end as the big climax and then went back to focusing on how hard it is to redeem way smaller scale antagonists lmao.

I want to address this specific argument I've seen a decent chunk of people say in the past for why sera should remain in charge of heaven.

A common argument I've seen for why sera should remain in charge of heaven in future and can't either be removed as a consequence of her actions or willingly step down in order to actually focus on changing herself for the better by doing work to help others and proving she has actually changed from her old days of just turning a blind eye to the hard stuff like she did with the exterminations

Is that it would be risky since someone potentially worse could end up in charge instead so people argue that its better to have an ex offender who wants to do better than taking the risk of putting someone unknown in charge who could possibly be worse,

The issue is that this logic does not add up given we have no reason to assume other heaven people would potentially not be good people since so far other higher ups like emily and the speaker have all been portrayed as good people and we can't default to assuming that the unseen higher ups are bad because of this since that can't be the default assumption when we have been given 0 reason to assume that

So sera is so far the only rotten egg we know for sure existed in heaven at least in the higher up sense not including adam and the exorcists and so claiming its better to keep in charge the devil you know is not a good argument here since we have no reason to think that any other devils actually exist in heaven so far,

This argument would work better with say an overlord in hell who was redeemed as a person but kept their title and power since the way hell has been portrayed shows that many many terrible people exist and would love to use that power to hurt others so keeping someone who was a former bad person in a place of power technically makes sense given how the overall people of hell have been portrayed so far making it a safe worry that someone potentially worse could step into another overlords shoes

But for heaven? yeah no that's a bad argument to be honest as sera is the only bad apple we know about and have been given no reason to think there are any others since she literally had to hide the exterminations from everyone else in heaven and in season 2 no one was seen as being on lute's side in continuing the exterminations,

And I can't help but notice that this is a bit of a turnaround by the fandom since prior to season 2 I remember it often being the case that the fandom majority would get annoyed when people made out as though heaven overall was a corrupt system and likely had terrible people in charge simply because of sera and adam's actions

Yet now the fandom majority has switched around to claiming that heaven may very well have other bad apples in its higher ranks to the point its safer to keep the 1 person in charge who so far as proven she can and will make bad choices that have terrible consequences rather than risk giving anyone else a chance,

It sort of reminds me of how the majority of the fandom in the run up to and during season 2 were making endless fun of vox and his uprising and laughing at the idea of them actually being a threat to heaven yet at the same time most people were arguing for why hell's first uprising was a valid reason for sera's actions that made her more understandable and forgivable

( am I the only person noticing these big contradictions the fandom majority keeps having with what opinions that are most popular over time? ),

People can say well who should replace her? and the simple answer is someone vivziepop made up lmao its a story its not a gritty realistic drama there's plenty of heaven officials we don't know yet so that part is actually quite irrelevant and the only part of the discussion that is relevant is sera herself given everything we know about her and what her future is supposed to be

Given its meant to be 1 of redemption and that won't really happen if her character does not undergo meaningful change in how she lives her life and how she does things.

I feel like a lot of fans get these 2 things muddled up to be honest but expecting positive action to be tied to a character redeeming themselves is not the same thing as wanting some sort of over the top torture for them.

This logic just confuses me to be honest as if you don't consider redemption to involve actual meaningful atoning actions then what exactly do you consider redemption?

A character just being a more likable person to hang out with? a character just stopping their crimes and getting on with their life as if nothing happened?

That feels more like your describing a karma houdini villain than an actual redeemed character to be honest.

I feel like this is the actual reason for why so many people seem to be dead against sera's character actually changing anything about herself in future or working to atone herself the same way we'd expect any other character to.

I feel like fallen sera as a concept should happen as sera remaining in heaven really doesn't sit right with me.

Redemption is supposed to be about changing your old ways and doing meaningful things to atone but nothing ever said its meant to be a get out of jail free card and her continuing to be in heaven doing the exact same thing she's always done with no change doesn't really sit right with me as redemption its basically just getting away with it because she happens to be a likable person,

And the continued presence of people like her in heaven kind of ruins heaven as a concept since it really isn't this paradise meant that upholds kindness and serves as a place for good people if someone can be born there and thus get special privilege in spite of their actions

So that changes it into basically just being an upperclass neighbourhood to be honest and hell being the lower class 1 if your actual actions and the way you love don't matter when it comes to who gets to be there in certain cases,

Before anyone says "" well what about lute "" that's different she's an ongoing villain as confirmed by vivziepop in an interview that's going to become worse in future and get some sort of comeuppance either dying or getting cast out for her actions in future but that's different from sera whose current position in the show most people want to remain stagnant rather than change or grow in any sort of way,

And sera willingly falling to actually go down and do work to atone in hell would be an actual action that would show meaningful change in character by her not just staying in the same spot she's comfortable in continuing to leave the hard work to emily and others but instead actually trying to help the people she wronged Wether its with redemption or just helping certain people in hell be less miserable

And learning to understand and empathise with them better I know people bring up the question of who would run heaven instead and frankly I don't think that's relevant the answer is it can literally be anyone be it a character we know or 1 that we don't but using this sort of hyper logic to try and write the show out of having characters do meaningful things or change just seems weird as you could literally do that with anyone

You could also say its not logical for charlie to even be as kind and empathetic as she is given the place she grew up in and basically write the show's entire premise out of existence with this logic lmao,

But sera's character staying in heaven and not actually doing anything herself to show meaningful change or atonement would be as terrible as if the show had vox redeem himself by simply not hurting people anymore but nothing else changing about his tech ceo overlord role in hell

Or alastor or valentino or velvet etc etc etc but it feels as though a lot of fans are rather averse to the idea of sera's character changing in any way but you shouldn't be afraid of that or want the character remain stagnant especially in a show built around redemption which by nature has to involve people changing and not just staying the same.

I feel like this idea would actually be very good for a certain characters story despite what a lot of their fans want.

A double standard I really can't stand in the fandom to be honest.

https://preview.redd.it/0gdnf5g2mh0h1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee2381c8e454446b12cffdfbf47554f16586ca61

I can't help but laugh at certain posts in the fandom trying to claim sera has a misogyny bias against her compared to male characters from other shows when she has such a large fandom and very passionate defenders and also a large amount of her fans have passionate hatreds of other characters for frankly hypocritical reasons,

This above is actual misogyny I'm sorry but that really is the only explanation it would be fine if you simply liked 1 character but did not like the other but throwing these actual harsh criticisms against 1 character while blatantly ignoring them for the other is just a sign of sexist double standards that deserves calling out,

As so many people claim stolas is some sort of babied character by vivziepop and never faces consequences for his actions or calling out and even complain about him being a rich nepotism baby with no hardships

Despite this all being bs despite his wealth he did have struggles in life from the very start and in terms of his actions he does face shit as a result of them from stella's antics like having him tortured almost to death by striker to his and blitzo's harsh breakup

To him literally having to throw his own head on the chopping block thinking he would die and then losing his home and his powers and being hated by the public and losing his own daughter and he gets called out by stella blitz and even via so what the fuck are you talking about?

Meanwhile as far as we know sera was born into ultimate privilege not having to earn her way into heaven or earn her powers and status and has lived a very cushy life given the way heaven has been portrayed so far and then did an action that has caused countless harm over 7 years ( despite her complicated motives I'm not claiming she's pure evil )

And got called out on it 1 time by her sister and then in the end gets given everything she wants without having to really do anything for it or take any kind of meaningful accountability and action to make up for it and gets given instant forgiveness by everyone in the story

And yet people claim she is not babied by the creator because? she cried a couple of times? something which stolas haters loath him for doing and moan everytime he does,

Yeah newsflash just because you like a female character does not mean you are not behaving misogynistically this is ironically something you can learn from adam's character ( given he hangs out with women and even leads an army of them but that does not negate him being a sexist person )

So Its very clear that fans who judge stolas 1 way but judge sera another do not view men and women by the same standards when it comes to writing and this deserves calling out quite frankly.

If the next 3 seasons go by and a certain character still hasn't done anything despite what their fans said.

https://preview.redd.it/6547oh1z2c0h1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=43977dea4ea29983b83dfffec71b0deecb4ffda0

P.s for what its worth I'm Hoping the meme doesn't come true since that would make for an even lamer character but if it does then there's definitely some rude fans that I'm gonna be calling out and holding to task for their behaviour lmao

( also the defenders better not try and gaslight people like some of them did after the season 2 finale ).
