Are they both assholes? Yes, obviously. And they deserve serious consequences for everything they’ve done. But part of the fandom wants to see them suffer in a genuinely concerning way. Not as a joke, but because they actually want the things they say to happen.
I’ve seen comments from people who want Stella to be thrown out onto the streets, starve, and have to prostitute herself to survive because of everything she did to Stolas. And with Lute, it’s not just that they think she should be killed because she’s supposedly incapable of changing; they also want her thrown into Hell with some kind of restriction so the sinners can hurt her, or they want her wings taken away.
The worst part is that it always comes from the same part of the fandom that says the series isn’t about punishing characters, but when it’s a character they dislike, they’re suddenly more than willing to demand extreme punishment and humiliation. And it’s always something horrible, like rape, even though the series is supposedly very clear that rape is one of the worst things that can happen.
But I guess bad women deserve to have the worst things done to them and suffer forever. Who cares that this is supposed to be a series about redemption and that eternal punishment is bad?
