The Great Khans are Over Hated and Deserve Nuance

The Great Khans are Over Hated and Deserve Nuance

So the Great Khans are pretty clearly stand ins for Native Americans, right?

They’re a people who have been repeatedly pushed out of their ancestral homelands, massacred by an imperialist power, and are later sent off to a distant reservation.

The Khans are raiders, yes, but so were so many of the Native American tribes that received similar treatment, such as the Lakota Sioux (the primary inspiration for the Great Khans story, given the obvious parallels between the Bitter Springs Massacre and the Wounded Knee Massacre) as well as the Apache, Comanche, Navajo, and Cheyenne.

So why is it that many who sympathize with Native Americans are so quick to hate the Great Khans? Why is it that people can accept nuance in the real world but not in fiction?

I for one have read Geronimo’s story of his life. Geronimo, the Apache war leader and medicine man, describes carrying out raids against civilians, women and children were not off the table. Geronimo was a bigot, and hated Mexicans, he blamed them for the murder of his family at the hands of Mexican soldiers. Does that not sound familiar at all? Like Papa Khan?

Edit: You guys seriously don't think the Great Khans are meant to represent Native Americans? It was pretty clearly intended. Take it up with John Gonzalez and Travis Stout.

You can argue and disagree with my take, sure, but that much is true.

Wait, so we can all agree this was dumb, right? (BOS Destroying Car)

I hope later seasons further explore the Brotherhoods deterioration as a faction, the root cause for their civil war.

Right now, it hasn't been very fleshed out. The Brotherhood of old would never do anything like this, if they were going to destroy it they'd at least have the scribes look at it first.

The founding principles and laws of the codex have withered away into nothing, and now the Brotherhood is nothing more than some bumbling idiots in Power Armor, juggling grenades.

I think this could actually work, but they need to contextualize their decline if they want to stay respectful to their characterization in the games.

I fear this will not happen.

The Knights of San Fernando = Lost Hills Chapter

When watching the Fallout TV series, I found it weird that the Lost Hills chapter was nowhere to be found and was never mentioned at all, and instead there was this new chapter called the Knights of San Fernando.

So here's my harebrained crackpot theory on the Knights of San Fernando.

The Knights of San Fernando could be the same chapter as Lost Hills, having just been radicalized into a religious cult sometime between Fallout 2 and the TV show. After Shady Sands was destroyed and the NCR was pushed out of the region sometime around 2283, the chapter could've abandoned Lost Hills and relocated to the airfield outside San Fernando, eventually adopting the name of their new home.

There's actually a tiny bit of evidence for this.

The Lost Hills Chapter is never actually addressed by name in Fallout 4 (2287), only ever being referred to as "the West Coast Brotherhood." The Knights of San Fernando are seemingly the most powerful chapter on the West Coast, so this could be referring to them. To my knowledge, Lost Hills isn't referred to by name in Fallout 3 (2277) or Fallout: New Vegas (2281) either, only ever being referred to as the Western or Californian Brotherhood. That could mean the Lost Hills Chapter transitioned into the Knights of San Fernando decades ago.

Honestly though, the more likely answer is that the Knights of San Fernando are just a splinter chapter of Lost Hills (like every other Brotherhood chapter) that left the bunker and, for whatever reason, ended up outlasting their predecessor and becoming the dominant chapter in New California. This doesn't necessarily mean they're the same chapter, still a cool idea though.

Why Are All the Brotherhood Chapters in the Fallout TV Show from National Parks and Forests?

The Brotherhood conserves technology, not wildlife!

No genuinely, this makes no sense whatsoever.

Do we know of any NCR Generals besides Lee Oliver?

General Lee Oliver is a four star general, you can see that clearly on his uniform, does the NCR has any known Brigadier or Lieutenant Generals? Do we know who the NCR General of The Army is?
This is obviously assuming the NCR uses the same rankings as the modern US Army.

Map of Great Basin Wasteland

Map for a tabletop campaign I never ran. Based on Fallout New Vegas, Van Buren and The Fallout Bible, creative liberties taken for certain locations. Sorry about the poor resolution. Feel free to ask me about certain locations if you're interested.

The History of Vault 15

I've been getting more into the nitty gritty of Fallout lore recently and have found some weird contradictions on the Fallout wiki. I'm wondering if the exodus of Vault 15 was in the spring of 2097 or 2141. The Vault 15 article says it was in 2097, so does the Vipers article, but the Khans and Jackals articles say 2141. The Shady Sands article doesn't give a date at all.

Kind of inconsequential but I'm curious.

All my billboard textures are broken, they all display the Fancy Lads advertisements, and the backs are all messed up.

When selecting an item in the Pip-Boy to consume sometimes it will scroll up or down to another item.

ED-E is making the noises from the mod ED-E The Random Sounds even though I've never installed that mod.

Is a .177 caliber hollow point pellet fired from an air gun at 350 fps powerful enough to kill a rat?

The SNR's got six shots so it's okay if I need to take follow up shots.

Is Arcade Ganon Just Josh Sawyer's self insert?

I heard that Arcade was a tabletop character Joshua Sawyer played as, although he was a soldier and a direct remnant of the Enclave. He looks and talks a lot like Josh, is he just his self insert?

How tf did Boone get Raul's gun?

I assume Raul's revolver must have been knocked out of his hands in combat and Boone picked it up. How do I give it back to Raul? I don't want Boone using a .44 Magnum.

If Skyrim fills shallow should I play Morrowind?

I've been playing Skyrim for the second time recently and have sunk about ten hours into it. I can't help but feel like the game is kind of shallow when it comes to the characters, story, side quests and such. The only quest that I felt had a really good plot besides the main one with the dragons and greybeards is In My Time of Need and The Mind of Madness during my first playthrough. I've watched videos about Morrowind and it seems really awesome, more on par with rpgs like Fallout New Vegas (472 hours.) Should I play Morrowind instead? I've played super janky old games before and enjoyed them (Fallout 1 & 2 + Call of Juarez & Stalker 1)
