Misdemeanor from 9 years ago

I just got hired and I am doing the onboarding with Houston ISD. I have a A misdemeanor nine years ago in North Dakota. The misdemeanor was computer crime, I changed my grade at the teacher’s computer. The misdemeanor has been officially sealed already five years ago and it doesn’t show up when I apply for jobs any more. Would this be an issue when getting hired at Houston ISD?

Occupation? Salary? Married?

I moved to the US at 17 years old, been living here since 2010. I do hang out a lot with Fobs though and Filipinos who moved here as an adult. My significant other is one of those international nurses who moved here in the US as an adult (30’s). We met here in the US. Her family keeps asking what’s my financial status and my family’s financial status. Let’s say I came from a family where all my cousins are only allowed to attend Ateneo or La Salle. That being said, I never talk about my personal life to other people other than to my significant other only. I never talk about my salary, occupation, rent to my friends. I talk about my hobbies, NFL, NBA, MLB, weightlifting, restaurants, investment ideas, economics etc.. with my friends. I talk about my interests with my friends. Folks here in America don’t really like to talk about personal matters as far as I know.

I am getting annoyed how my significant other’s family in the Philippines seems like interested how much money I have or how much money my family have. I’ll meet her family eventually, but for sure I won’t be comfortable talking about personal matters to them. Just to put things in to perspective, my significant other isn’t really a full blown OFW breadwinner but her family in the Philippines was only able to have a new vehicle because she bought it for them. My dad has a new vehicle every 3 years (Filipino nurse). I actually have something to inherit, my significant other won’t. I’m not an OFW whatsoever. I have been living on my own as an independent adult for over a decade with a job that has very good stability. I haven’t really fully disclosed to my significant other the financial status of my family because I really think that’s none of her or their business. She doesn’t ask about it, but her family seems really curious.

Is it normal for Filipinos to ask what’s your occupation? Salary? Marital status? Relationship status? I honestly think this is low class and it’s a huge turn off. That being said, what I firmly believe is I am in a relationship with my significant other, only her; not with other people involved.

Deregulate insurance

I’m a full blooded libertarian. I live in texas. I’m curious what are some examples of federal and state insurance regulations that the government can get rid of? If they get rid of said regulations, what would be the effect? Would prices go down? More competition?

All I want is deregulation, more business friendly, more competition, better quality and lower prices.

Deregulate Houston even more

I know Houston (the city itself only) doesn’t have city-wide zoning. What If Houston deregulates even more? get rid of setbacks, get rid of minimum parking sports, remove height restrictions that are not in the way of airplanes, remove flood requirements, complete removal of deed restrictions? Will we see even more housing supply being built? Will housing prices even go down?

I noticed Houston seems to have very low housing prices compared to other big cities in the US. I want housing prices to go even lower so that the economy would grow even faster.

Lower tax rates and deregulation.

I’m a firm believer in Milton Friedman, Ronald Reagan and Adam. I am a capitalist by heart. I do believe that having tax rates as low as possible is good for the economy. I am a libertarian.

English is not my first language. How would I convince other people to vote for politicians that promote lower taxes and lower regulations? Whats the best way of explaining these concepts? Thank you very much.

1A audit cluelessness

One of the more famous 1st amendment auditors is Long Island audit, his first audit I think was 5 years ago. At this point 2026, I would like to safely assume every police officer in the US nowadays are aware of first amendment auditors and right to record video and take pictures from a public vantage point. You can’t trespass what you can see with your eyes.

Few days ago, Kansas City accountability just got arrested for filming in public in Cincinnati. I’m curious to know, are there still cops who honestly just don’t understand the first amendment? They got bad training?

Or there are still cops who know the first amendment and just really want to act like tyrants or bullies and cost the taxpayers money?

I just can’t believe in May 2026, there are still police officers who fail 1A audits. Is it safe to assume 1A audits are taught in every police academy across the US? Or am I wrong?

Debit card - Apple Pay

I made a purchase on Dillard’s at about $900 with a Wells Fargo debit card through Apple Pay. I just made the return yesterday. I was told by the cashier the amount would go back to my debit card. However that debit card I used with Apple Pay is already voided/cancelled. I have a new debit card coming today though. My question is would the amount of the refund go directly to my bank checking account even though the associated Apple Pay debit card is already voided?

Give money to parents eche boreche and “utang na loob”

Give money to parents eche boreche and “utang na loob”

Some background about me first. I studied at a well known private school in Iloilo for elementary school, semi well known all boys catholic school in Quezon City for high school and DLSU for a year of college and then moved to the US to be with family and finished my bachelor’s degree in California. I am in my early thirties now. Most of my social circle are still living in the Philippines as adults, only a very few moved abroad.

Living in the US as a Filipino American adult, I started hanging out with Filipinos who moved here in the US through employment: physical therapists, nurses, teachers, HRM restaurant workers, titas (Filipinos who married their way into America) etc…

In my whole life when I started hanging out with these people, this is where I started hearing stories about sendwave, being obligated to give money to parents bullshit, being obligated to pay tuition fees of siblings, being obligated to send Balikbayan boxes, “utang na loob” conversation with family, borrowing money from in order to fund a lechon for a barangay fiesta etc…

This whole conversation about Dani Barretto give money to parents, utang na loob controversies is not really about Filipino culture. I think this is more of a socioeconomic cultural issue. Most Filipinos (regardless of profession) in the US come from poor families in the Philippines. Poorer whites and other poorer minorities are also having these issues: parents leeching off their kids, adult siblings leeching off other adult siblings etc……I

In Houston, is Milby High School an “NES” school?

I can’t find any list or resource online saying if Milby High School is an “NES” school or “PUA” school.

I’m a 33 year old male. I watch college football, NFL, NBA playoffs, high profile in season NBA games, high profile in season college basketball games (men and women’s), march madness for both men’s and women’s basketball, and possibly the ncaa D1 volleyball tournament. Is YouTube TV the best deal for me for my iPhone 17 pro? Or is there other subscriptions you can recommend to me? Thank you.
