What made Taika Waititi think of comedy reading Planet Hulk?

For the record, I do like Ragnarok quite a bit and think it’s one of the best MCU films. I was just thinking about how outlandish it was to take that specific Hulk story and adapt parts of it in the way he did. Planet Hulk/WWH are some of the most emotional Hulk stories out there. I just realized how outlandish it is to take characters like Miek, who in the comic are complex and have an interesting narrative arc, and reduce them to really nothing more than joke characters. Does anyone else see how out of left field it seems or do you guys disagree?

Got 5 pages into reading the Cates/Ottley run and already don't feel like reading.

"What if the Hulk exists to protect us from Banner".... What?.. Did Bruce manifest the Hulk as a small child to protect the world from Banner? I'm sure there's an explanation later on about what this means, but WTF lol. Just feels like such a weird way to start your book that really has no basis in reality.

Your Favorite Hulk Transformation?

This is my favorite by a landslide. The significance of Bruce transforming into Savage Hulk at this point in the story was wonderful. It’s a gross and iconic transformation as well. Curious to see your guys’ favorites.

Hardest fighting game you've played?

Curious to hear the hardest fighting games you guys have played. Mine has to be KOF 2002. The skill ceiling and execution demands of that game feel incredibly high. The roster is huge and the skill expression in that game is insane. Even basic combos feel hard to execute.

Do you think the crossroads is a good early Hulk read?

I'm helping my friend start with Hulk and recommended all the early hulk stories people love (Mythos, Hulk Gray), and I'm wondering if you guys think the crossroads is a good Hulk book to read early? It's an integral part of Hulk lore, but I'm not sure if it'd be too much for someone new to Hulk.

Post Immortal Hulk Reading

Just finished Immortal Hulk, which I loved. Curious where to go from here? Feels like such a bittersweet feeling because I don’t know how there’s ever gonna be a run that’ll top this, and there probably won’t be. I’ve heard awful things about the Cates run. I’m interested in the PKJ run because Nic Klein’s art is incredible. What do you guys recommend?

Do you like when Hulk looks gross?

https://preview.redd.it/jb8tio3j5j9h1.png?width=648&format=png&auto=webp&s=7497bc98628c6b00a8c984e901908a96f100db72

One of my favorite covers from Peter David's run, drawn by Liam Sharp. I loved Sharp's art in the run because of how uncomfortably large and giant the Hulk looks. He doesn't look like a bodybuilder, he looks like a body being stretched and grown beyond the limit. Do you guys like when the Hulk looks a little bit gross? Be it from his size or the design overall.

Guile mains... Is leverless better?

I'm a masters guile player using a fightstick, and sometimes while I'm playing I can't help but think "I wish I was using leverless". I feel like the stick sometimes does feel exhausting to play with. Even for small things like immediately moving the stick backwards after a boom so I can generate charge as fast as possible. I feel like leverless would just feel much less physically taxing over time? Any leverless Guile mains with any input?

JRJR's Hulk is Incredible

https://preview.redd.it/5xbnuf999u8h1.png?width=1194&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e20fa18b0b95ef6e47edce7ca49d05f9750187a

After all the discourse around JRJR's Spider-Man cover, I was excited to read WWH as I've just gotten to it on my Hulk reading journey. JRJR's art shocked me with how good it is. The only time I'd seen him draw Hulk was during the few issues in Paul Jenkins' run (which were incredible). His art is electrifying, and his style feels perfect for a character like Hulk. I really don't understand any of the hate he gets. He's an incredible storyteller.

Why do people dislike the MCU leader design?

I watched Captain America: Brave New World before I started reading Hulk, but after reading a good amount of Hulk I really don’t mind his design at all. The leader is a character that is super hard to translate to live action (like MODOK), but I think the route they went with him really isn’t bad. He looks threatening, he looks gross (as he should), and although his characterization is a whole other topic, I didn’t mind it. I really don’t think there was any better way for them to adapt his design.

Any of the World War Hulk titles worth reading outside of the main book?

Currently reading Planet Hulk, which has a very straightforward reading order, and I'm wondering what the ideal reading order for World War Hulk is? Is it worth reading the tie-ins/spinoffs?

How much care do you need to take so pickles won’t go bad during the pickling process?

Asking for some at home pickling advice. I’m very curious about the safety of pickling, and how important the attention to detail you take is? Is it the level of care as something like handling raw chicken?

Biggest Hulk Mischaracterization Pet Peeves?

Curious to hear your guys' pet peeves about Hulk mischaracterization. My biggest pet peeve is when the savage Hulk doesn't act like what he is, which is the representation of Bruce's childhood rage and trauma. Sometimes when I'm reading Hulk it feels like certain writers forget why the Hulk exists/what he is.

Claussen pickles outclass Grillo’s pickles by a landslide

I’ve been seeing so much hype around Grillo’s Pickles, and I’ve tried them several times over the years. I truly just don’t get the hype? They’re just fine? I think Claussen delivers a much better flavor by a landslide. What is the hype around Grillo’s? Is it just the specific taste of that brand that people like?

Why don't more artists/colorists today use flat colors when for the most part they are very well received?

I'm thinking of Absolute Martian Manhunter when writing this. That series has been one of the most well received books of the last 5 years, and uses almost entirely flat colors. Sure the art isn't great just because of the colors, but why don't more books from the Big 2 use flat colors? Is it just unpopular among artists/colorists? Are the companies themselves opposed to it?

Anything good to read between Paul Jenkins' run and Planet Hulk?

Currently continuing my hulk reading journey. I've finished Peter David's run, and I'm about to finish Jenkins' run. I'm curious which Hulk stuff I should read between Jenkins' run and the Planet Hulk stuff?

How drastic would the change be if a regular person did a bodybuilding water depletion cycle?

The title is self explanatory. Bodybuilders often undergo a water depletion cycle where they overhydrate for several days and then taper off their water intake. How drastic would the effects of this be on a normal person? Would there be a noticeable change in physical appearance?

Brand New Day Hulk Theory

POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING FOR BRAND NEW DAY BE WARNED!

I've seen a lot of discourse online about a theory that Bruce locked the hulk away and was using his body whenever he was the MCU's "smart hulk". I like this theory a lot actually and feel like its the only way for them to address the smart hulk fiasco while adding something interesting to the story. The character of the hulk would be so much more interesting if we discover that's why the smart hulk happened in the MCU. Do you guys have any thoughts or a direction you'd like them to take to explain the Hulk coming back?

Why do people dislike the end of Peter David's run?

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR PETER DAVID'S HULK RUN. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT GO DO SO.

Just finished reading Peter David's hulk run, which I loved dearly. A lot of the discourse I had seen beforehand surrounding the run said that it falls off near the end. I wholeheartedly disagree. I actually think some of the final issues are some of his best ever. The issue with his father's death as well as the issue where he's being "haunted" by his father. Sure I think the stretch where they're in Florida is probably the worst bit of the run, but it's still nowhere near bad. An argument can be made to say the ending is sudden, but I still think the final issues are a victory lap and celebration of the entire run.

The Joker's "origins" don't do anything for his character or make him more compelling.

As a disclaimer, I am not talking about Batman's first encounter with the Joker when he was the Red Hood. I think that's an incredibly important part of their relationship and his character. I think with 90% of incarnations of the joker, an attempt to explore his origin hasn't done anything for his character. Every time there's an attempt to show off some information from the Joker's past or explore who he was before being the joker, it feels pointless. The joker exists as himself, and any previous person he was is gone. Jack Napier or whoever the Joker was before becoming the Joker truly has no meaning or value to his character when he's so far removed from that person.
