Scream Hot Take

Scream Hot Take

I was 14 when Scream premiered. I didn’t think it was a bad movie. How could it be? It was directed by Wes Craven. On the other hand, I really, really dislike that the killer(s) is always just some random novice(I understand that’s the appeal to a lot of fans). It’s obviously an opinion and my personal preference, but I just prefer a supernatural, disfigured, brutish, or imposing killer. I saw the first three, trying to get into them, but I just couldn’t. The Scream franchise is overrated. And I really hate fan-based scenarios where Ghostface is pitted against characters they would have zero chance of even remotely winning against. Again, a bad series? No (At least the three I’ve seen.) I just can’t get interested in the killer(s).

Machina Hot Take

I’ll probably be downvoted to Hades and back, but I like Machina more than Mcis. While not my favorite SP album, Machina just barely edges out Mcis.

Your Scariest Episode?

I watched religiously as a kid when it aired on HBO. The only episode that really creeped me out was The New Arrival. I’m 44 now, and Felicity’s screams still unsettle me.

The Chair

There’s a lot of comical elements in many Tales from the crypt episodes, but something I always find funny is how lax the justice system is when giving people the chair. I know the people are actually guilty of murder in most cases(Lou being the exception), but as far as I can remember, none of the murders were actually pre-meditated. Anytime there’s a killing and the law gets involved, you just know they’re getting the chair. Pretty funny.

Rewatching as an adult

I was really into the show when I was a kid and it was airing on HBO. I recently subscribed to Shudder to rewatch, and it feels like most episodes haven’t aged well in my opinion. The good ones are really good(Death of some salesmen, The new arrival, etc), but it just seems to lack something I remember it having as a kid. I still enjoy it for mostly nostalgic reasons and I’m not saying it’s bad by any means. I was always more of a fan of the episodes with a supernatural or monster theme, and I think that’s what let me down, because most seem to be revenge or karma killing themed. Still, glad it’s back in streaming form.
