I’ve finished OZians who will become Dorothy’s friends
The Shaggy Man, the China Maiden, Mouse Queen, and Tip will offer Dorothy help and warm words throughout her journey across an OZ collapsing into despair.

Before he becomes Dorothy’s friend, she’ll first have to face him in an intense battle.
Since his entire body is made of straw, his movements are incredibly quick, and his massive bloodstained scythe makes every attack feel dangerous!
Hesitate for even a moment, and you may find yourself properly harvested.
I'm currently developing The Ashen OZ, a fast-paced action Roguelvania inspired by the world of Oz.
This video features some of the strange inhabitants you'll encounter throughout the game, including Yoop, a man-eating giant chef; Johnny Dooit, a scientist who even modified his own heart; the Wicked Witch of the East, who for some mysterious reason hides her entire face behind her hands; Scarecrow, Dorothy's closest friend; Mangaboo, a heartless plant humanoid; and a Munchkins who has lost his bell.
Of course, Dorothy and Toto are here!
There are many more characters beyond these, but for this showcase I wanted to gather some of the stranger, more unsettling, and more eccentric inhabitants of Oz.
Do you think the atmosphere comes across well?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I'm an indie developer currently working on The Ashen OZ.
The game reimagines the many inhabitants of Oz with dark, surreal visuals and twisted new lore. The creatures shown in this video include Yoop the Man-Eating Giant, Johnny Dooit the genius scientist, the Wicked Witch of the East who was crushed beneath Dorothy's house, Scarecrow, Dorothy's friend, and the plant-humanoid Mangaboo. Of course, Dorothy and Toto are here as well.
I've created many more Oz-inspired characters beyond these, but I decided to gather some of the stranger and more unsettling ones for this showcase.
Do you think the atmosphere works? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Hi! I’m currently developing an indie game called The Ashen Oz.
In the original story, the Witch of the East is crushed by Dorothy’s house during the tornado, so she barely has any presence at all.
That made me wonder:
“What if she had her own story?”
In my version, for certain reasons (which I’ll keep as spoilers for now), she grows disgusted with her own face and ultimately chooses to completely hide it.
That idea became the core concept behind her design.
Her outfit is inspired by early 1910s American high society fashion.
Since she’s an important early boss Dorothy encounters, I put a huge amount of effort into her animation setup as well. Everything was separated and carefully rigged in detail, from her hair all the way down to each individual finger joint. I also applied physics to emphasize a more natural feeling in her movements.
I’m really curious how the animation and overall atmosphere come across to you!
