I'd love a little QoL update for Fishing...

It's definitely not in the priority list for these updates we'll be getting, yes.

But I really wish I loved fishing in this game. It's supposed to be cozy and fun, but there's so much friction between me wanting to fish and actually just sitting down and fishing.

It's inventory intensive, there's 5 billion different bait types.

It's PUNISHING AS HELL to lose your boat, be stuck in combat and then lose all fishing party stacks. Why THE HELL does the timer to lose the fishing stacks even need to be a thing? Make them permanent as long as you don't leave the map, for the love of GOD. Or if you want to keep the timer, don't make it such a ridiculously short timer. It's not even long enough to kill one mob attacking the boat in many cases.

Also being unable to attack enemies while I'm on top of my boat? Making us interact with underwater combat while not improving it in any way is just... kind of mean, honestly.

Oh yeah, also, the goddamn dusk/dawn timer being only FIVE MINUTES between huge day and night cycles is torturous. I have 3-5 fishing collections that have everything caught with the exception of some stupid fishes that never come during those 5 minutes. For such a "chill" gameplay intention, having to set up alarms on my phone is the exact opposite of that.

There are quite a few changes that are relatively simple and wouldn't "break the balance" of the game in any way, unless you guys intentionally want ambergris to be such an expensive item needed for gen 3 legendaries because a bunch of people simply refuse to fish because of how convoluted it is.

What's the weirdest profession + race combination?

There's a few combinations that work really well, like a Charr Engineer, a Human Mesmer, a Ranger Sylvari if you think about lore.

But what's the weirdest combination of profession and race you can think of?

An Asura Mesmer, A Thief Norn? What else? Maybe some specific Elite specialization with a race?

This event makes me really enjoy Slark

I absolutely DESPISE having a Slark on my team because the player 100% never bought a BKB in his life and thinks last hitting is a suggestion, and on the enemy team he's a 1v5 god with 15 permanent stacks of stolen AGI before I even finished building my boots.

But holy shit his voice and accent is SO GOOD. The artwork too.

Is there an In-Depth guide for inventory management for new players?

What I mean is, someone actually taking the time to make a fresh account and playing the first few 10s of levels as a new player and seeing exactly what drops to the inventory and making a list of all of them, if they should be kept, salvaged, sold, simply trashed...

A guide with actual images of the items and what to do with them. I think It would go a LONG way to introducing new players into the game, because every time I tried bringing new people in, the inventory was the main thing that dissuaded them from continuing.

Need advice about Elementalist

So, I'm a seasoned player, almost 10 years playing. Elementalist was my first character and the first I brought to lvl 80. Ironically enough, I barely played Ele after I really got into the game.
I've flip flopped between a few mains, but I was never really able to stick to Ele because I could never find a build for it that felt good to play.
I've played a BUNCH of staff weaver on WvW to get legendary backpiece, but it's not a really a... good build. It's good on WvW but on open world and instanced content it's not really a good fit.

I want help to find a build for me that I can always come back to when I play Ele. "That build", you know, the one you always come back to when you've stopped playing for a few months and want to come back. Something that works in open world and instanced content but no need to be super meta.
My issue usually is survivability usually. A mistake as an Ele feels VERY punishing since it's usually so squishy. I want a power or condi build that doesn't rely on celestial gear.
Also, I really love the concept of a "toolbox" character, that has tools for different situations, instead of a stiff rotation, and Elementalist seems to fit this idea the most.
I always browse the sites with builds and every time I try a new spec I copy a build and then slowly edit it into something I like from there, but I never hit anything with Ele.

If I was to make a list of checkmarks for a build, I'd say:

  • Not EXTREMELY squishy. Doesn't need to be tanky as hell, but survivable, be it via self-heals, or tankyness, or dodging/mobility.
  • An actual DPS build. Something I can bring to instanced content and not feel like I'm being carried, and at the same time I can play in open world fine (maybe change 1 talent or 2 to make it more self-sufficient).
  • A "toolbox" build. This idea of a build that is way less stiff in its rotation and more of pressing key skills when they light up, while improvising in the meantime. <- this is the main thing for me, I really love it when I can improvise and not lose 40% of my DPS.

From these three points, the main thing I really want is the toolbox build. If it's able to fit the other two points, it would be perfect!
Some extra info, maybe useful to guide me. I've never really played Catalyst (When it launched it felt like a non-elite spec, not sure how it is today), Tempest feels too passive, Evoker (I just didn't get to it yet), and I've played staff weaver. I like staff, but it only feels half-decent on weaver and it's HORRIBLY squishy. Daggers are fun, warhorn is fun, Spear is fun but forces a VERY stiff rotation. The other weapons I either didn't try much or felt unremarkable when I tried, but I'd be willing to play them in a build that works well with them.
I don't really need a full build. Just a guide towards something. And any kind of input is appreciated :3

I just got to Lion's Arch

Got a few questions.

Been playing with my henchmen and I've just unlocked Devona, my first hero. About heroes, what can and can't do with them? I can change subclass, set their skills and attributes. Can I change their weapons and armor? Also how am I supposed to go about getting skills for them? I noticed she has my own profession skills unlocked so the skill unlocking is a thing I gotta do once.

Other thing, I read on the wiki about elite skills and I made a mental note that I'd unlock the signet to do it on lion's Arch, bur I didn't find it anywhere. Where do I get the signet? Also, how do elite skills exactly work? It said I can only have 1 equipped but there was a thing about having multiple of them at once (I think 3?). And how do I unlock the elite skills? Killing elite mobs abd using the signet on the body? Do I get a random elite skill each time?

And last thing, how long the kryta campaign goes on for now that I reached LA? Once I'm done, should I continue with the same character to Cantha or should I make a new one?

EDIT Oh yeah, one last question. Is it worth doing all the secondary quests? They mostly give negligible EXP and coin, plus items that don't work for my character. I'll obviously do the ones that give skills.

Build for commanding an army?

Hey guys! New player here.
I've played only a little bit for now, but I've quite liked the idea of having 3 NPCs with me that obey my orders, even if it's clunky and simply because the game is a billion years old.

If I want to play a character that is a commander/summoner/leader or anything similar, how would I go about it? The caveat is that I don't really know much about the game at all, so go easy on technical terms and skill names, because I probably don't know them yet. I heard there's heroes that I unlock later, but I only player a bit of prophecies, so I don't know much about it yet.

What's a cool combination? The idea is simply commanding them forward and from behind I throw offensive and defensive buffs on them. Should I go necro to make summons? Ranger and focus on buffing my companion pet? Maybe Ritualist, it summons minions too, I think? Oh yeah, if I go Ritualist, I need to start in Cantha. Can I make a Ritualist and do Prophecies first? And I guess I should ask here, can I ever reset my attribute points later on? Oh yeah, and any tips and tricks related to hotkeys I should use to more effectively control and order my party members around are very much appreciated!

Also, how "viable" is it? The idea is buffing my pet/summons/henchmen and letting them do the work for me.

GW2 player wants to try the classic

Hey guys. You probably have seen this same post a billion times already, sorry about that.

Been playing GW2 on and off for quite a few years, got my account with all expansions and living world content done, some legendaries, yadda yadda...

I have nearly ZERO knowledge of how GW 1 works, and I want to keep it that way. I'd love to naturally learn it, make mistakes and slowly take in the story and gameplay.
However, there are a few questions I'd like answered:

  • I have a standalone (not steam) GW2 account. To link it to a GW 1 account, should I buy the game via Arenanet's site? Any weird particularities about steam vs non-steam?
  • The game I should buy is Guild Wars REFORGED, right? Does it go on sale frequently? Should I even wait for a sale? It's not that expensive.
  • Do I need to buy the expansions right from the get-go? On 2 it makes a big difference because you have permanent mounts, access to the trading post, yadda yadda...
  • Is the game only humans? No other playable races?
  • I'm a massive human hater (They're insufferable on GW2 with their constant politics and bickering about their stupid coward gods). Is the entirety of GW1 a big "human campaign" story? I hope it's not, please tell me it's not xD. If it is, should I even play the game?
  • I'm a bit of a lore nerd, but I avoided GW 1 story because I want to experience it myself. Can anyone give me a basic lore jumpstart about GW 1, based on GW2's existing lore? Like, no spoilers, just setting up what is going on for me. Maybe if there's a cool video like "everything you need to know to play Gw 1" for gw2 players or anything similar.

And just for the record, I have nothing against human players. It's just that they're not nearly as interesting as the other GW2 races, for my preference.

EDIT game bought! Is the monk supposed to be a "support" class? It seems like it is by the description. I made a new account for GWR using the same email as my GW2 account. How do I "link" them?

Doing The Circuit as a new player is funny

I invited a relatively new player friend to do The Circuit together and I noticed something that also happened to me but I didn't think much about at the time when I was a new player.

My friend kept commenting on the missions, this were his exact quotes:
"Man tf you talking about Teshin, why the hell are you cosplaying a mage"
"Teshin shut your bitchass up wtf you mean void angels"

It's funny because he probably did Duviri without really paying attention, and also he's not anywhere close to unlocking the Zariman and other related stuff.

This also happened to me, when I was a new player I kept doing the mission to close the void portals and I really kept thinking "man this game is so good, but they just keep making shit up on the spot" because Teshin talks about void angels but you never see them in the circuit, so I thought it was just some random name they came up with for the NPC to blabber about
