Feeling alone during my first pregnancy
Hello! Honestly, I have no idea who I can talk to about this, so I'm hoping other pregnant women might understand where I'm coming from.
I found out I was pregnant last April, and I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I'm 25 years old and legally single. I live with my parents, and my partner and I had an agreement that he would move in with me at least two months before my due date. Unfortunately, due to financial circumstances on his end, he's unable to afford the commute from my house to his workplace. Right now, his mom gives him free rides to and from work, so he doesn't have to spend money on transportation.
He was supposed to move in this weekend, but he decided to postpone it to September 5 instead.
I want to be as understanding as possible because it's not like he has control over his financial situation. But at the same time, I hate that I've spent almost 80% of this pregnancy without him.
He didn't get to experience our son's first ultrasound, heartbeat, first flutter, first kick, or the first visible movements on my belly. He missed all of those little firsts. And it hurts knowing that we won't ever get to experience those moments together for the first time again. If we're blessed with a second baby a few years from now, he'll be experiencing those things for the first time then—but I will have already experienced them with our first.
He's been supportive when it comes to my appointments, and I appreciate that. But I can't help feeling like I'm going through this pregnancy alone. I'm grateful to have my mom supporting me, but it's not the same. My partner—the father of the baby I'm carrying—is barely here.
I've always struggled with feeling lonely, even before becoming pregnant, but I feel it more intensely now.
Am I crazy for feeling this way? Am I being selfish for wanting my partner here and feeling hurt that I'm experiencing so much of this pregnancy without him?
