Parents, give me the reality of having to care for baby when he/her gets HFMD.

I’m about to send my 4 months old baby to infant care soon. And I’m most worried about him catching HFMD.

I know the symptoms are fever, mouth ulcer, rash on hand and feet.

Do babies cry and cry and cry the whole day due to the discomfort? How do you soothe them? Do you need to take a few days of childcare leave or WFH is manageable?

I want to prepare myself before it actually happens haha.

Baby drinking extremely slowly :(

Hello! My baby is 3 months old now, 7kg, and he’s feeding extremely slowly, about 120ml in 1 hour and 20 mins, usually drinks about 600ish ml a day.

I’m wondering if it’s the bottle teat that is not suitable for him. Currently using Pigeon wide neck bottle, 3rd month bottle teat.

Any recommendations of what brand of milk bottle I should try? Anyone had the same issue before?

We have already brought him once to the hospital due to very low intake of milk, it was 400ish ml for a couple of days with very light diapers. The doctors said it was due to constipation, I wonder if that’s true because he poops every 2-3 days. I’m hoping to up baby’s milk intake and avoid going to hospital due to dehydration :(

Anyone bought Apple products online and have it delivered to your house?

Do you need to be at home to receive it? Is the packaging discreet enough such that’s nobody will steal it?

Due to circumstances, it’s hard for me to head out to buy from the shop. But I still need to clock my credit card, so thinking to buy online. LOL.

Home remedy for cold?

It was raining the past 2 days where I’m from, and my 3 months old baby seems to be having a cold because of the cold weather :(

I’ve tried using the pigeon nasal aspirator, but can’t seem to suck anything out. I’ve also tried to put a warm bottle on my baby’s check to give him some warmth and comfort, but he could only be comforted after nursing.

Unfortunately it’s Sunday today and the family clinics are closed and will only open on Monday. Are there any home remedies for cold?

Our hospitals are always pack with patients and waiting time is extremely long. We also been to the hospital recently for other issues and there were children with HFMD. So this will probably be my last resort if baby’s cold doesn’t get any better by evening.

Any helpful tips are appreciated, thank you!

Help, baby is not feeding well

Baby is now 12 weeks old. He’s suddenly not feeding well and easily distracted.

We really are at a loss. He’s been feeding well the past few weeks and now it’s only 4pm here but he has only drank 350ml… his usual amount by this time is about 500ml. :(

Parents who send LO to infant care, realistically, what time does your LO sleeps?

Long story short, we’re trying to shift LO’s sleep to a later time.

As I’ll be returning to work next month, this means LO will start infant care at the same time. The problem is that currently my LO sleep by 7pm, and both my husband and I usually reach home from work between 630pm to 7pm depending on traffic (IC centre is within the estate).

We have been trying to delay LO’s sleep time over the past few days but it has been a nightmare, LO is overstimulated and cry like nobody’s business. I’m starting to wonder if it’s even the right choice to deliberate delay his sleep time so as to get him ready for infant care phase.

Anyway, we’re just trying to pre-empt ourselves and LO, and this is how we think of the timing will be if we have to pick him up latest by 7pm.

7pm (latest): pick up from infant care
7pm-730pm: play, talk, and bathe him
730pm to 830pm: last feed

So parents who send their LO to infant care, realistically what time does your LO sleeps?

What’s with old people and 童子尿?

Why do people want 童子尿 and what do they hope to get out of it?

Yesterday my MIL decided to remove my baby’s clothings & diaper herself when my mum and I were busy preparing bathtub for baby to bathe. I find this very strange behavior because usually when I’m around, she wouldn’t touch baby at all. When I went into the room, I was shocked that she had already unbutton all his button, leaving the last button only, and she seems very frantic. Initially I didn’t think much about it and proceed to unbutton the last button. Then she suddenly wanted to tear my baby’s diaper! I had to tell her how to remove it. Mind you, she has never remove his diaper before.

After bathing baby, the more I think about this incident, the more concerned I become. When I asked her why she started to remove baby’s clothes when I’m not around, she actually lied and said she thought I was in the room. If you think about it, she wouldn’t even touch baby when I’m in the room so why would she have done that if she thought I was in the room.

Again, I told myself not to think too much and ask if she wants to change baby’s diaper at night. During this changing session, she said she hope to get sprayed by 童子尿. And then all her strange behavior in the day made sense.

But I’m very upset about it because she chose to undress him when I wasn’t in the room. And then she lied about assuming me being in the room.

So what’s with this obsession about 童子尿? And she had been patting baby in the crotch (with diaper on), until my mum noticed it and told her to stop it.

Somewhere along 2nd month, my LO decided that he doesn’t need his 10-11pm feed. So he has been sleeping from 7-8pm and wakes up at 2-3am for feed.

The thing is, I’ll be returning to work soon and will need to place my LO in infant care. Not sure if infant care is common in other country, but it’s a fairly common arrangement in mine. Anyway, I estimate that either my husband or I be able to pick LO up by 7pm. So that means we’ll need to feed him and get him to sleep at a later time.

So now I’m in a dilemma on how to start shifting LO’s sleep time to a later time. I have 1 more month of maternity leave, hence hoping to start preparation for when I return to work and this infant care arrangement kicks in.

Any tips will be very helpful. No bashing me please for whatever reasons that this doesn’t sit well with you. Many thanks in advance! :)

Today my mum exclaimed loudly to my MIL that she shouldn’t keep patting my LO in the groin (with diapers), and that it shouldn’t be something my LO should get used to. I’ve never notice this before but my mum has noticed it a few times and confirmed that my MIL has this strange behavior. My MIL commented that it’s only now that she will pat him like this - baby stage. And my mum rebuked back how long is baby stage to you, to which she didn’t/couldn’t answer. Bless my mum honestly!

Now, my MIL is uneducated, ignorant and really just lack of much common sense, a rather uncouth person. She also had never taken care of babies before, including her own children.

There were many other instances where we had to correct her behavior. For example picking my LO by his ankle like a fish. Initially I thought it was because of her lack of experience to take care of babies. I had many angry moments towards my MIL, but have been trying to be a more understanding DIL…

So in today’s situation, I would like to take it as an instance for correction due to her lack of maternal experience… But really, when should I be more concerned? I’m wondering if I need to go to the extreme of installing cameras at home since I can’t be staring at her handling my baby all the time when she’s at my place. I’ll for sure let my husband know that his mother has been doing this strange act…

My LO is now 2.5 months. We can’t bear to cut baby’s hair because he has so much hair! It’s something that we are very happy with since he’s birth 😅

But I’ve been worried if baby is having flat head. I can only feel with my palm and try to make out if his head is protruding more on one side or not. And obviously with a full head of hair, it’s impossible to get a clear view of whether he has flat head or not. We do have a round pillow for baby, but I’m not sure if it’s sufficient enough.

So when do you start to cut baby’s hair?
