When I bought my '09 Corolla it came with a new unpainted bumper because the original was ruined and ziptied together. I installed the new one to be safe but don't have the money nor incentive to paint it because I expect the car to only last a couple more years at most. Anything funny or quirky you guys can think to do with it? (The central lightbar is being removed and grilles reinstalled)
I bought an '09 CE which had a badly damaged bumper but the seller offered to throw in the new bumper they bought but didn't have the time to install. Found out that it was actually an S bumper (which still fit fine) but when I tried to clip in the old upper grille it seemed WAY too tall, like a full inch or more taller than the space in the bumper. When looking for the proper part, most sellers state their grilles are compatible with all trims from that time period and some don't specify at all whilst exclusively showing specific models in all of their product images. I can't find any S/XRS specific grilles which leads me to believe they're all the same, but again, that doesn't explain why my old grille seems far too big now.
As the title says, I've been approved for a new amended work permit 3 times and every time it has failed to arrive at my address within 6 weeks, or ever. My address is somewhat rural but nothing crazy for Newfoundland so that should not be an excuse for 3 seperate government documents to simply go missing trying to reach here.
After it failed the second time, I updated my mailing address to be the workplace of a family member in the next town, and confirmed through the web form that this change in mailing address had been updated on my account. Yet on this third approval, the email still showed my old address, they refused to use the updated one. On the letter it states "Your permit has been mailed to you at the address you gave us when you applied" which is just completely false because that address never appeared once in the packet of documents I sent them. I even reiterated on multiple of the documents what my updated address is, and it was ignored completely. I even wrote the return address on the document packet, as recommended, and still that was ignored aswell.
What am I supposed to do? Even if I get approved my documents just get sent to the ether every time. I update my mailing address and they seemingly just ignore it and use my old one anyway.
As the title says, it's been 2 months since I received confirmation from Canada Post that my document package was handed off to the courier SCI Metro in Ontario and I've received no word back after 2 months. On my first attempt of this (I was approved but the amended work permit never arrived) I received confirmation that I was approved barely 3 weeks after it had been delivered. This time it's been 2 months and I've heard nothing.
I tried to use the Web Form to ask what the status was on my documents but I received a generic copy/paste "We're working on everything as fast as we can, we'll contact you if we need anything" response which didn't address any of the other problems I also stated in that web form.
It's exhausting. I've been here in Canada for over 9 months as part of the IEC program but I've been completely unable to work because there was an error on the work permit I was given at the airport. This entire time I've been trying to get an amended document and it's been nothing but trouble. I've been approved twice before, both times the new document never arrived, so I applied again with a new mailing address that I also have access to, and now I've heard nothing.
This 2009 Corolla CE with 280,000km has no visible external rust on the wheelarches which is surprising for the climate and road conditions of where I live. Gratefully, the seller was able to provide an exhaustive list of near every piece of maintainance they've performed as they did their own work having owned it since 42,000km:
•Oil changes every 5000km using synthetic 5w20 oil and denso oil filters
•Wheel bearings changed 60,000km ago
•Monroe front struts, CV shafts and various front end components replaced 80,000km ago
•New exhaust manifold and full exhaust system replaced 3 years ago
•Transmission main output shaft bearing and clutch throw out bearing changed at 180,000km, transmission refilled with Redline MT90 fluid.
•Spark plugs changed 22,000km ago.
•Brakes replaced less than 10,000km ago but are a little rusty from being parked.
•New front calipers 32,000km ago.
•New evap canister and fuel vent line changed within the last 2 years.
•Starts and runs great, drives great.
**Known Issues:**
•With the doors open, rust patches are visible on the top of the rocker panels. All seems surface level, but I would need a closer look in person and a better look at the underside to see if there's anything to be worried about. Seller says they should be able to share some underside pics tomorrow.
•AC doesn't work, not a big issue
•Engine light illuminated after changing the evap system, unsure of the cause as parts were new. No obvious detrimental effects seen.
•ABS sensor on the rear driver side is faulty.
•Handbrake works but strength has slightly declined from new.
•After replacing CV shafts and transmission fluid, shifting to 3rd makes a tiny grind which goes away once warm.
•The tires are worn (I have replacements)
Overall provided the underside isn't too rusted, it sounds excellent. It has known issues, but ones that can be managed or fixed. The seller is knowledgeable, friendly and kept up with maintenance religiously.
I have my eyes on a 2002 SR5 RWD with an Auto transmission and 168,000km/105,000m for $2000CAD. Seller states it ran when parked but currently doesn't start anymore and has a damaged rear differential which would need to be replaced. It also has a minor rust spot below the left taillight where the bumper meets the body but doesn't look serious and appears repairable.
The cost to bring it home on a rented trailer with current gas prices would be around $600. A replacement rear differential ranges anywhere from $700-$1000. This would be my first time working extensively on an 'older' vehicle so without experience it's hard to tell if this is worthwhile or even feasible as a personal project.
I love simple, solid vehicles that aren't bloated with tech and it would be a great, practical vehicle for where I live with but I need to know if I'd be getting in over my head on this, especially if it's only RWD with an Auto.
Thank you in advance for anyone willing to lend advice or share their own experiences.
