I believe these two ideas were meant to overlap each other, Lloyd is mean to succeed his Grandfather and fix the mistakes he made and eventually become the protector of not only Ninjago but the entire merged lands, but this time not alone
Sure he is presented as the classic rival of the main character and is totally jerk, but I think all of that comes from the pressure of trying to become the dragon striker. Imagine being told you're destined for greatness but you later find out that someone else is taking your life's purpose.
In a way he reminds me of Katsuki Bakugo, the rival of the mc Izuku Midoriya and while not on the best of terms they eventually rekindle their friendship.
I am hoping he and key will become friends eventually

It had a great introduction, great animation, excellent characters and voice acting both in Japanese and English
Nothing was rushed, everything was solid and clicked together. You can tell that a lot of effort and work was put into making this anime.
Madhouse really knows how to make a solid anime and I would know
It may have been a lot of the first beginning chapters but it was pretty solid none the less. The Opening was also peak, I mean don't get me wrong season 2 and 3 had some good openings but they can't compete with The Hero.
Season 2 and 3 didn't appeal and failed mainly because they were trying to fit all chapters into one episode instead of just taking their time. Season 1 never did that and took things smoothly that's why it was so loved.
J.C. Staff tried and they just couldn't match what season 1 had, they couldn't copy greatness.
that isn't to say they couldn't have tried, if only they had took their time instead of just rushing things.

I kind like how each of the new Ninja just seem to click with certain members of the original team.
Sora and Nya because well they both like to engineer and create, Plus they are spunky brave and always willing to stand for others
Kai and Wyldfyre are both hotheads but sweethearts deep down, they can be impulsive and aren't the most calm.
Frak and Cole because their elements tend to align with tremors, but they also tend to the ones who lift others up. Plus they both have daddy issues.
And finally Arin and Lloyd, both of them start out with being the members with the least talent. But they gain more skill then they realize, out of all them this is my personal favorite.
Though I wish Zane got a new member he clicked with, I kind of wanted Zane to interact more with Riyu. well at least he got to interact with Mr frohickey for special mention.
As for Jay I am hoping he trains with Euphrasia if she joins the team. Plus it would a funny callback to that one time he controlled wind.
When Lloyd enters his draconus form he speaks in a very formal manner like a knight of some kind or some kind of enlightened hero
