Lacking consciousness about slavery..
To provide some context, I was randomly thinking about some of films/tv shows have underperformed over the years, specifically Is God Is. And many Black people say that they are tired of dark themes that showcase our trauma. Honestly, I think it's an attempt to remove ourselves from struggle-historical and current. It's especially specious considering that people will say that they are tired of slavery themes but aside from 12 Years A Slave, Birth of a Nation, Washington Black, Underground, and the Underground Railroad, there hasn't been an abundance . Also, we were enslaved almost two times longer than we haven't so if anything, based on math alone, we should have significantly more awareness about our experience as enslaved persons. It's not our whole experience, but it's too significant to under-appreciate.
