How do you guys survive Cryo Archive? Need loadout/strat tips

Hey everyone, I am currently hitting a massive brick wall on the Cryo Archive map and could really use some serious tips or strategy advice. I don't know if it’s my current build, bad positioning, or just a major skill issue, but I am getting absolutely shredded every single time I drop in. The environmental freezing hazards alone seem to wipe out half my health before I can even stabilize, and by the time rival squads or the local mobs push my position, I'm already completely out of resources.

For those of you who are successfully managing to extract from this zone on a consistent basis, I'd love to know what the ideal loadout looks like, particularly if there are specific weapons, damage types, or perks that excel in these tight, freezing corridors. I'm also struggling with how to best manage the environmental pressure, so any advice on specific gear pieces to mitigate the cryo effects or optimal routing through the zone would be a lifesaver. I actually ran it a few times with my wife's boyfriend, but lately I've just been constantly dying to sweaty teams with purple shields and high-tier gear before we can make any real progress. Finally, I'm torn on the best drop and extraction strategy—is it generally better to rush the central archive vaults right away to secure the high-tier loot, or is it safer to play the edges and slow-burn the match?

If text guides are too long to read, can you recommend a good video tutorial for me to watch in my closet where I like to watch things? It's the only place I can get some actual peace and quiet to focus on studying the map layouts and extraction routes without distractions. Any links to specific creators, build recommendations, or warnings about high-risk rooms to avoid would be massively appreciated.

How does Marathon 2026 tie back to the original trilogy?

Hey everyone, new player here! I just wanted to drop a post and get some community feedback because I'm trying to piece together the overarching story. I've been spending a lot of time reading through the terminal logs scattered around the zones, but honestly, I usually end up getting blindsided by enemy squads while I'm distracted trying to read the text. Between managing that and finding a quiet moment away from my 14 kids, my situational awareness is completely shot.

I usually stick to just shooting things, but the world-building here actually hooked me. I’m trying to get into the backstory because my wife's boyfriend told me this game is directly connected to the 90s original trilogy. Apparently, the story is that humanity is dead, AI went completely insane, and now we are cybernetic clones of some ancient Security Officer scavenging a ghost ship.

Is that actually how it connects, or is this happening in a completely different timeline after the universe ended in Infinity?

I’m still super lost on how the original factions tie into our current Runners. Does anyone have a solid lore breakdown or a good video recommendation? I'd love a good lore video I can watch in my closet where I can just focus and learn! I feel like understanding the history will make the grind even more rewarding. Thanks in advance!

A bit overwhelmed by the Runner choices, who is everyone's current favorite?

Hey everyone, new player here. I just wanted to drop a post and get some community feedback because none of my actual friends play this game and I'm trying to figure out the meta before I sink too many hours into the wrong build.

First off, I just want to say I’m having an absolute blast so far. The atmosphere is incredible, and honestly, the visual design is so clean that half the time I’m content to just sit back and watch the match unfold instead of sweating my eyes out. It's just a great spectator experience overall, and I love to just watch how the higher-tier squads navigate the tight zones.

I ran a few rounds with my wife's boyfriend earlier and he was completely carrying us as Triage, but for me, I'm trying to decide if I should lean into stealth or aggression. I've been looking at Assassin for the solo potential, but the frontline pressure of Destroyer looks like a lot of fun too.

With that in mind, who is everyone's favorite Runner to use right now? I want to focus on someone viable for the long term but figured I’d ask the community what the current consensus is. Who should I be looking at?

Haters or Hate spreaders should be banned from the Sub

As the title says
I’m tired of seeing those losers (to be gentile) keep bitching about the game in all subreddits blindly criticising and just mocking everyone for having fun

Posting charts, 0 valid criticism, never played the game or they played like 10 minutes without giving a flying fuck about learning how to play or how things works

I’m here to see artworks, read about other Runner experiences, see news about the game or just see how the community is going
Not to see a bunch of basement crawlers that prefer posting shit instead of actually play a game that they like

Sad sad sad people….but yea, don’t care just ban them and on that note that shithole of r/MarathonHate should be banned form Reddit too
People mocking a gf/wife that made a themed present to his loved one or dads that find time to play a game that isn’t D2 or the Classics?
Like…seriously re-evaluate you mental health

What do you love about Marathon?

Tired of the doom-posting. Feel like everyone has been down (rightfully so) with the recent news so wanted to know what's actually keeping you logged in? Could be a specific gun feel, a map you never get tired of running, the extraction tension, whatever. Genuinely curious what the community thinks the devs nailed so far, since that stuff tends to get buried under all the complaint threads.

While the bugs and balance issues definitely need fixing, I still think the core foundation here is incredibly solid. It's easy to lose sight of the fun when everyone is venting, but the game clearly has a great skeleton that's worth tuning instead of throwing away. Personally, I’ve just been having a total blast playing lately regardless of the state of the sub.

For me, it's honestly just the movement tech; sliding into a fight feels better than most shooters out right now. I ran a few rounds with my wife's boyfriend earlier and the gunplay loop just felt so good, it's easily the best part of the whole game. The audio design, the weight of the weapons, and the way hit registration actually connects makes every firefight feel rewarding, even when you end up losing the engagement. At this point, the game is practically flawless and funding this through its lifecycle basically guarantees Sony will greenlight D3, so supporting it just makes sense.

What's everyone else's favorite part? Trying to put together a "why this game still has potential" list instead of another pile-on thread.

New players: Don't give up!

If you love the game, the aesthetics, the gunplay, the mechanics, or even the setting, but you find yourself constantly dying to everyone... don't quit!

Keep trying, keep practicing, and keep learning.

Every death, every piece of lost loot, and every frustrating moment is a lesson on your way to getting better.

Marathon is a HARD game, so don't worry about what the pro players say. In this game, even the basic robots will punish you if you make a single mistake.

If you like the game and want to improve, there is only one way forward: don't give up!

Marathon is Incredible

I’ve put about 22 hours into Marathon during the free week and honestly, the internet hate train is baffling. The gameplay completely hooked me. It has that classic Bungie gunplay where positioning and aim actually matter. It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the grey muddy look of basically every other extraction shooter out there.

What really sold me is the tension. Maps like Dire Marsh are genuinely terrifying because the audio design is insane. If you smash glass or sprint across a metal catwalk, every squad nearby knows exactly where you are. Your heart is pounding the entire time you're trying to extract. But even when you get totally wiped and lose everything, the class abilities and faction progression make it easy to bounce back.

People are seriously missing out on one of the best shooters in years just because it's trendy to hate on Bungie right now. It’s easily the most refreshing high-stakes PvP game this year and people should give it a try this week like I did.
