Any good tips for aging acrylics?

My dad's old as dirt sub has an acrylic that looks cloudy and yellow in color. I think the cloudy effect is from tiny scratches, but the yellow hue seems like it looks like it's been left outside for years.

i tried using some yellow marker on the underside of one of mine to try to get the same effect, but it doesnt look nearly the same.

does anyone have any tricks that wont melt the acrylic?

Does anyone else feel like they have a "vision" but no idea how to actually build it

I’ve been obsessed with home improvement subreddits for a while now, and I’ve noticed a pattern. We all look at these incredible, high-end renovations and think, "I want my place to look like that." But then I open an Excel sheet to estimate materials, and suddenly I have no idea if I need 10% or 20% waste for flooring, or what my actual budget breakdown should be.

I recently stumbled upon a community called itsdunrite (itsdunrite(dot)com) that takes a different approach to this. Instead of just looking at pretty photos, they use AI to actually pull a "build plan" from photos of your own space. It breaks down the materials, estimates the costs, and even helps find a contractor if you’re out of your depth.

It feels less like an "ad" and more like a bridge between the pretty inspiration photos on r/RoomPorn and the actual, messy reality of doing the work.

Has anyone else tried using itsdunrite (itsdunrite(dot)com)?

I don't think Reese ever wanted to be a Ronin, but before meeting Finch, he realized he was one - setting up his downward spiral.

I am sure this has been discussed ad nauseum, but in a recent rewatch, I just saw the Ronin episode. It was pretty cool.

In Season 1, Episode 14, Darren (who was an awesome kid actor) talked to Reese about being a Ronin - a samurai with no master. Reese always wanted to help people, as noted by Finch in a later episode, but when the Army/CIA did what they did, he was left wondering and trying to kill himself with the bottle but never being able to go thru with it. Without a master, he felt hopeless and directionless.

In

Finch ended up being his master, gave him purpose, and set him back on the path of the samurai. Reese's act in the last episode was the culmination of finding his path again, which is why he was so at peace with it.

That Darren kid knew his stuff.

This is how Jason 007 thinks about his (its?) customers. You are nothing but a piece of trash to be punished and used.

Thanks u/disisnotmyuser for bringing this to our attention.

I don't expect to be coddled, but to be thought of as nothing more than a pawn to be sacrificed. Now that is pretty pathetic.

I hope that others see this now and in the future and realize that if you take a chance with him, you are going to get treated this way.

Why do people put high beat rate movements in retro builds?

I am genuinely curious. For all my vintage builds, if i am not using a gen movement, i use either a 2824-1, an NH3X, or another lower beat movement for the watch. I see a lot of people put high beat rate 2824-2s in their builds and, while the builds absolutely look amazing, when they post a video, it just looks weird seeing a sweeping second hand in a vintage watch.

is there something i am missing? just preference?

Punt Coaching - please don't setup your punters for failure - get their steps compact.

This is really a vent post. for over a decade, it has become increasingly disappointing to see these private punting coaches and football STCs focus solely on distance and hang time without focusing on their punter's steps.

At the college level, it is expected that within 1.5 seconds of a punter catching the ball, the punter will punt that ball. That is a great and important stat. However, focusing solely on that stat can result in great camp results but very poor game results.

The 1.5 seconds is based on the speed that an edge rusher can get to the punter once the ball is snapped. The more steps a punter takes upfield, the time needed by an edge rusher to get to the punt is reduced. At 6 yards upfield, you effectively need to reduce your hand to foot time to about 1 second, better than an nfl punt tempo. If your blocking scheme isn't one of the best in the country, at D1 with decent punt rushers, that can result in blocked or rushed punts.

If you are bored, take some time and see how many "top 20" punters actually end up as starters for more than a year at the D1 schools they were recruited to. It shouldn't be a shock when you see their videos.

I am just an anonymous guy on the internet, but here is what i would look for in a punter if I had a team:

  1. Always catches the ball.
  2. Gets ball out within 1.5 seconds of catch.
  3. Punts ball within 4 yards of catch.
  4. Consistently punts the same way.
  5. Consistently hits outside the hashes on either side.
  6. Hang time.
  7. Distance.

So just like everything else on Ali, Local Shipping is also a scam.

I ordered local shipping (US) and surprise, surprise, my package is taking longer and I got a notice in email that my package cleared customs. Cleared customs? thought this was local.

My pool is a place where miracles happen during the summer.

During the summer, we regularly have friends and family over on the weekends. Despite drinking copious amounts of alcohol and having a bathroom right by the pool in the pool house (I ain't rich, it's a shed with a toilet and waste pump), by God's grace through his miraculous divine intervention, no one ever has to leave the pool to pee. It is amazing and truly a miracle.

Last year, as a joke, we put up a no peeing sign by the pool. The next morning after one of my son's football parties, we went down to survey the damage. The sign was taken down and clearly peed on all night.

It doesn't bother me. I just think its funny.

Changing raffles 34mm from crystal to acrylic.

for those that have modified their bezels to fit an acrylic, do you recall what the inner diameter was that you ended up with?

just trying to save on the number of clarks crystals i am going to buy.

also, if you have the part number of the clark crystal and can share that, that would be great. i am going to do a commando build and the sapphire is just throwing me off.

The way that Maggie smiles, but it seems a little sad. And the way that Shawn's head is facing slightly down and he is staring kind of devilish (like the Terminator in T2) or like jack torrance in the shining.

some great foreshadowing going on.
