Home Setup Visit From EE Guide

I'm shortly going to be joining EE for FTTP as very unhappy with my current provider. I'm probably going to be going for 900mbps with Ultimate and understand that this includes a Home Setup Visit from an EE Guide.

Does anyone know if this would include running an ethernet cable from the ONT to a new location so that the router can located more in the middle of the house?

My present router has to be located next to the ONT and this means I don't get a great Wi-Fi signal at the back of the house. If the router could be moved just around the corner, it would avoid a solid wall and be in the middle of the house and would provide much better Wi-Fi coverage and reduce the number of extender/nodes needed.

Feeling a bit gutted but to be expected.

I recently had really bad side effects where I had chronic diarrhoea for a week which resulted in me loosing a stone in 6 days. I know this wasn't real weight loss and was just due to dehydration. Anyway, after a week of diarrhoea I then had a week of constipation during which time I completely came off Mounjaro (last time I injected was 2 weeks ago).

Today I was restarting Mounjaro but back at 2.5mg and so got on the scales this morning only to find that in the past week I've put on 12 pounds!

Like I say, I know my previous 'loss' wasn't real but seeing the scales jump back up that high was a bit of a shock. I naively hoped it might only be a 3-4lb gain as I haven't been eating bad whilst I was off of Mounjaro and have maintained a calorie deficit but I have been rehydrating like crazy.

The good news is that I'm 2lb lighter than I was before the diarrhoea started which is actually what I was expecting to loose that week anyway.

Anyway, onwards and upwards (or downwards 😉 ). Just don't want to lose the positive mindset I had when seeing the scales go down every week.

Best Provider/Router

I am looking to find a new provider but have limited choices. I live in a rural area that not many providers can provide fibre to. My house is also fairly large and has been remodelled over the years which does present a problem when it comes to WiFi signals.

I’m currently with Zen Internet but their Fritzbox 7530AX router is garbage. I had this router at my old address, a small 1 bed flat, and I couldn’t get any signal in the next room without using a repeater. By comparison every other router I’d ever used there gave me full strength everywhere. At this house I have two Repeater 3000’s set up as a mesh (I’ve also tried setting them as repeaters) and even with these I don’t get sufficient coverage and speed. Neighbours with similar houses have no such problems with their routers.

I’ve got it down to 3 choices for 900mb and ‘WiFi Everywhere’

  1. Sky with their WiFi Max £36

  2. Vodafone Pro 3 910 with their Ultra Hub 7 and Super WiFi 7 Booster £39

  3. EE with their Ultimate Smart Hub Pro 7 & WiFi Extender 7 Pro £58.99

Does anyone know which of these routers might have the best/strongest WiFi signal/coverage.

I’ve been with Sky in the past and I did find their Internet connectivity actually very good but I’d prefer not to give my money to them unless they really are the best. I’ve never used Vodafone for broadband but did for
Mobile and their customer service was dreadful so I’m cautious about going with them but would if they are the best. EE seems to have got good reviews for their router but they are so much more expensive!

Anyone else injecting every 2 weeks?

Recently I suffered very bad side effects (severe diarrhoea, bloating and nausea) on week 3 of increasing to 5mg. My GP took some blood and the results showed I was having an inflammatory response to Mounjaro. They have suggested two options.

  1. Go down to 2.5mg for a month or two as a minimum and then try to increase to 5mg.

  2. Continue at 5mg but take it every 2 weeks.

I’ve opted to go back to 2.5mg but know I will need to go up to 5mg at some point as I was finding it less effective before. I’m therefore thinking that when that time comes, I’ll try the once every two weeks.

Those that have inject every 2 weeks, how do you find it? Do you find the 2nd week is harder in terms of hunger, food noise? Has it slowed your weight loss? Has it had a beneficial effect on any side effects or is it that they just become concentrated in the first week?

How long before Mounjaro is out of your system?

The past 5 days have been hell with dreadful diarrhoea and vomiting. So much so that I ended up going to hospital yesterday and am seeing my GP this afternoon as I don’t seem to be able to tolerate 5mg at all. Yes I’ve tried treating the symptoms but nothings seemed to work.

To illustrate how bad it has been, I’ve lost 12.5lbs in 6 days!

My GP is saying I may just have to wait until it’s completely out of my system before I feel any better. How long does that take. I’m on day 6 after injecting and it’s only 5% better at most.

I really don’t want to come off of Mounjaro but equally this isn’t sustainable either. I’m prepared to go back to 2.5mg for a couple of months if my GP thinks that will help but eventually I know I’d have to go back to 5mg and, frankly, that scares me. Anyone else had to go down a dose due to side effects, how did you find going back up?

Worst diarrhoea of my life

Genuinely don’t know what to do

3 weeks ago I increased to 5mg. First 2 weeks were bad with loads of bloating and burping (slightly sulphur slightly acidic) and whilst not completely constipated, things slowed down a lot. That mild constipation ended in diarrhoea which only lasted a day or so and then things went back to normal. Also I noticed my voice was becoming horse.

Week 3 started great. No bloating, no burping, normal voice and normal bowel movements but after 2 days became constipated to the point I had to take a mild laxative. From then on it has been the worst diarrhoea of my life with bloating, burping and hoarse voice again. 3 days now of nothing but diarrhoea and going 10-15 times a day and it being pure water.

It seems to be literally anything I eat or drink just shoots right through me. The first day of it I could barely eat or drink anything I felt so ill. Now my appetite has is almost normal (normal for Mounjaro) but drinking seems to trigger diarrhoea.

Last night I took two Imodium but have been up since 3am with horrendous diarrhoea and so have taken another tablet but so far it’s not making any difference.

I’m due to take my 4th dose on Tuesday but have a GP appointment on Wednesday to discuss my progress. I don’t know whether to hold off taking my next dose until after I see the doctor. In the meantime I don’t know what else to do to stop or at least slow down the diarrhoea. I know I must be incredibly dehydrated now but I simply can’t replace the fluid fast enough.

Does injection site make a difference?

I’m clutching at straws here but currently suffering with bad side effects after increasing to 5mg. I’ve always injected around the stomach and got side effects with the first 2 doses of 2.5mg (it cleared up after that) and now all 3 doses of 5mg. Would injecting in my thigh make a difference?

One Extreme To The Other

Apologies in advance, this is about constipation and diarrhoea.

I’m 3 weeks into having increased to 5mg. The first week was really bad. Extreme bloating, really unsettled stomach and bad constipation. Then I discovered Pepto Bismol and ended the week still constipated but less bloating.

Week 2 started off like week 1. Pepto Bismol really helped settle the stomach but went from constipated to bad diarrhoea.

Week 3 started brilliantly. No bloating at all and diarrhoea stopped. But that turned out to be a return to constipation. I’m now on Day 3 of the week and now the bloating has returned, because of constipation.

I’m drinking a minimum of 1.6 litres a day, usually 2 litres. I don’t know precisely how much fibre I’m eating but a typical day consists of a variation of overnight oats with porridge oats, chia seeds, hemp seed, nuts, pumpkin seeds and fruit for breakfast. Lunch is usually either leftovers from dinner or a sandwich with granary bread. Dinner is almost always heavy on vegetables with pulses like lentils and some protein. So I don’t think I’m low fibre, but maybe not super high fibre either.

So far I’ve only tried Dolcolax as a laxative which doesn’t really seem to work.

Really don’t know what I’m doing wrong, how to prevent going from one extreme to the other or what I should be taking to get things moving.

Any tips on how to exercise for someone who hates exercise?

I have always hated exercise and sport in general. I’m not competitive. I cannot stand any team sports like football etc. I find aerobic and typical gym exercises physically uncomfortable and boring. I’m also incredibly self conscious and feel embarrassed if I try exercise, even in the privacy of my own home as I think I look ridiculous doing it.

All in all, not a good combination!

The only activities I’ve found so far that I tolerate are walking and cycling, but I have to do it somewhere nice as I can fool myself it’s more about the views etc than the activity. There is a problem with this though.

A year ago we moved to the country, where I live now there are no pavements just country lanes and B roads which can be quite risky to walk along (just before we moved someone was killed by our house walking along the road). Cycling is also a problem in that I don’t now own a bike and we live on top of a hill. Even if I bought a bike, there’s no way I could cycle up the hill.

I also don’t drive and have atrial fibrillation which further restricts what I can do.

So I feel really trapped. I know the answer is to just do it but I also know that if I don’t enjoy it I’ll just end up telling myself that I’ll do it tomorrow.

Anyone else hate exercise? What do you do?

How Do You Meal Plan and Portion Control?

Following on from my earlier post really. I meal plan every meal, and every meal is a balanced meal that I try to make as high protein as possible. I mainly select my meals from recipes on Doctors Kitchen and a few cookbooks and other apps we have.

This worked brilliantly when I was on 2.5mg and on average I was eating 1600 calories & 100g Protein a day.

Since increasing to 5mg (Day 6 of the 1st 5mg dose), I haven't been able to eat a full meal. Whilst I'm sure I will get used to the higher dose, It did make me wonder how everyone plans their meals.

Are you able to eat whole meals or have you had to reduce portion sizes as you increase your dose?

Do you plan every meal or just dinners?

Do you aim for specific calorie and protein range, do you have consider other nutrients like fibre and sugar?

Or do you do it more one meal at a time, deciding what you want each day?

I’m struggling with eating enough protein. I’m trying to stick to around 1500 calories a day and only eating 3 meals a day as I don’t feel hungry between meals.

On average I’m eating 60g - 80g of protein a day and the only days I’ve reached over 90g are days where I have significantly eaten more than 1500 calories. For example of Sunday I ate 112g of protein but ate 1950 calories.

All the advice I’ve received from my doctors talks about meal proportions i.e. 1/4 of your plate should be protein, 1/2 non starchy vegetables and 1/4 starchy foods. I’m mostly doing this, occasionally more starchy (carbs) than 1/4 but not often, and I can’t get above 80g of protein without increasing the overall meal size and therefore more calories.

Those consuming over 100g of protein, how are you achieving this?

Can anyone offer some guidance on conflicting information I have read in regards to suitable rod lengths for a beginner?

I've been coarse fishing for 40 years but have fallen out of love with it as it's all Carp orientated now and sitting in front of a bank of rods on alarms, isn't what I got into fishing to do. So, as I'm now living within 10 minutes of several trout waters, I would like to switch to fly fishing. I will be getting some tuition but I'm beginning to have a look at what gear I need and what kind of budget I need.

When I started coarse fishing as a kid, I remember reading in numerous books that the ideal length of rod to begin with was 9-10ft. This I quickly found to be completely incorrect as it just made casting anything other than ledgering far too difficult and found that 12ft was the perfect length. Whenever I subsequently taught anyone to fish, I always started them with a 12ft float rod and never had any issues.

In looking into fly rods I found a few YouTube videos and books that suggested that an ideal length fly rod for a beginner was around 9ft 6" and not the 'standard' 9ft, as it provided more 'whip' and made it easier to cast. This made sense to me and seemed to follow my previous experience with coarse fishing. However, I've subsequently see several sources suggesting that beginners should never start with anything beyond 9ft as longer rods are 'exotic' lengths for specific types of fishing. I can understand that the longer the rod the easier it is to cast lighter lines and the more delicately you can land the fly, but why would that disadvantage the beginner fishing heavier lines that the rod is rated for?

Initially I intend to fish still waters as I have 3-4 within a few minutes of where I live and appreciate that still waters require different rods and lines to running water.

In terms of fly line, from what I've read it seems that starting with a #7 line is about right. Is that correct?

TL;DR Would you recommend the Vioz GTX or Guide GTX boots?

I've had a pair of Zamberlan Vioz GTX for something like 20 years and they are the best pair of hiking boots I've ever had. They were almost faultless. My feet never got tired or wet, I could walk through, over and up anything and they were so comfortable.

This weekend, they finally gave up on me and literarily fell apart on a walk. To be fair, the past 5 years or so I've not been well and couldn't walk far and so didn't wear or look after my boots. Only now am I starting to regain my fitness.

I'm now faced with buying a new pair. The problem is I am cursed with big feet (UK Size 13, Euro 48) which limits my choices. Plus I live in a very rural area where there is no hiking/boot shop anywhere within an hours drive. So I'm going to have to buy online.

I'm seriously tempted to buy another pair of Vioz GTX's as I know how great they are. However, there was one thing that I never was completely happy with about them. The sole of the boot is fantastic in that you can't feel any discomfort going over even the most rocky ground and they were amazing going up and down hills. However, this also made them not ideal for more flat or less rugged ground as it felt like your points of contact were reduced. That said, I also think this helped with walking at speed. So I'm also considering the Guide GTX RR which has a slightly flatter sole and doesn't have the cut away heal of the Vioz. My thinking is that this might be the right blend I was after. However the sole also looks less rugged and I wonder how it will feel over rough ground compared to the Vioz.

I'm slowly regaining my fitness and so hiking up fells etc is beyond me at the moment but I am now able to do increasingly longer walks over uneven and rocky ground and, due to the costs, need something that will be suitable both now and in the future when I, hopefully, am able to do more rugged and strenuous hikes. Which would you recommend?
