Why is Patagonia sizing all over the place?

I find it very hard to shop for Patagonia clothes, because the sizing between different items is vastly different.

I don't understand why the fit of seemingly very similar items, is so vastly different. Anyone have any insight on this, from a manufacturing perspective?

T-shirts:

  • The Responsibili-tee size S fits me very baggy and loose.
  • The 100% organic cotton size S fits me quite tight / form-fitting

Sweaters:

  • The Synchilla Lightweight Half-Snap fleece size S fits me perfectly
  • The Retro Pile Half-Snap fleece size S fits very baggy

Rainjackets:

  • The fit between the TorrentShell 3L and the Granite Crest size S fit quite differently.

Replacement ear cushions Quietcomfort in EU?

Hello all,

I own a pair of Quietcomfort 35 ii headphones. Back in 2023 I purchased original replacement ear cusions directly from Bose (Belgium).

It seems now there is no longer a non-USA online Bose store, or customer support for that matter? Is this correct? I keep ending up on the USA store, which does not ship outside of the US.

If anyone knows where in Europe I could order original Bose replacement cushions, please let me know.

Thank you!

Rattling ring around UDH Bolt?

Hello,

I recently noticed I have this rattling on my Cannondale SuperX. Turns out it is this little ring around the UDH derailleur bolt that is loose and rattles around. I torqued the UDH bolt to spec (I think 20 Nm) but the ring that sits around it is still loose.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or what I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

Shop/dust vacuum: Metabo ASR 25 vs ASA 30?

Hello all,

I'm sanding down all the wood floors in my house for paint prep, and just bought a Metabo SXE 150-5.0 to do the sanding.

Looking to pair it with a good shop vacuum for the dust, and trying to decide between the Metabo ASA 30 M and ASR 25 M.

https://www.metabo.com/com/en/tools/vacuums-and-extraction/vacuum-cleaners/asr-25-m-sc-vacuum-cleaner/602070000

and

https://www.metabo.com/com/en/tools/vacuums-and-extraction/vacuum-cleaners/asa-30-m-pc-vacuum-cleaner/602087000

As far as I can tell, the ASR has a slightly more powerful engine, and has a bigger filter surface area. It also has 'semi-automatic' cleaning of the filter, not sure what that means, compared to the manual cleaning button on the ASA?

I will be using it for the floors, and subsequently for sanding prep of walls for painting, occasional furniture sanding, etc.

I'm a believer in buying quality that lasts, but I am not a woodworker or professional contractor, so is the ASR overkill for me? Thanks!

Chain clean enough for drip wax?

I've been using only dry lube on my chain for the last year, this chain has never seen wet lube.

I clean it super thoroughly with biodegradeable dish soap + brushes and sponges (degreasing) after every ride + rinse it with water thoroughly. Chain looks spotless.

Is the chain clean enough to apply Squirt drip wax? Or do I need to actually soak it in some harsher degreaser? Thanks!

Can you tell a difference in crosswinds between 36mm and 42mm deep wheels?

Hello all,

In the market for a new set of wheels. I'm not that heavy (67kg), and often ride in exposed, windy conditions (crosswinds).

On the fence between 36mm and 42mm rims... could you tell a difference between these? Or is the difference too small to notice, and is crosswinds only problematic at 50mm+ depth?

Thanks!

Deep or shallow carbon wheels for gravel?

I'm in the market for a wheel upgrade for my Cannondale SuperX. I'm getting a custom build by my local wheelbuilder.

Initially, I was thinking to get 36mm deep rims, front and rear. I was thinking over rough roads, cobbles and rough gravel, deeper section rims would ride harsher? I want comfort on long (160km+) days.

But then I'm seeing tons of gravel riders on 45's, 50's or even deeper. So what is the consensus, does it not impact comfort too much? Or does everyone just suffer the harsher ride to gain some aero benefits?

(I'm thinking shallow rims for crosswinds as well, small rider, windy place, but that is another topic)

Thanks!

Elite-wheels Drive G36 vs local custom build?

I know SO MANY people recommend the likes of Elite-wheels, because they are ''really good for the money''. They are having a sale right now, but I'm having a hard time deciding whether to get their Drive G36 gravel wheels, or this custom wheelset:

- Erase hubs (made in Belgium, lifetime warranty)

- Sapim CX-ray spokes

- Duke Baccara RX36 gravel rims (3yr warranty)

Both wheelsets are identical in specs (25mm internal) and weight (around 1330g). The Elite would be around 820 EUR, while I can get the Duke custom build for about 1300 EUR.

Obviously the custom build has local support and better warranty. I am having a hard time gauging whether they would also be higher quality? Erase hubs are highly regarded, how about the Elite hubs? Duke rims are highly regarded, but are they better than the Elite rims?

What would you get? Thanks!

Cannondale Delta steerer expansion plug service manual?

Hello all,

Does anyone have the full servicing manual (In PDF) for the delta steerer with the expansion plug? Or does anyone know where I can download it? I guess this is a manual that is given to bike shops only?

My 2025 SuperX manual just says:

"The headset, stem, handlebar spacers, and compression assembly ......

This manual does not include instructions for servicing. This is why you should have work on the system performed by a professional bicycle mechanic with the experience, tools, and information to complete any needed service."

I'm having problems with my headset assembly, it keeps developing play. So I am guessing the expansion plug is slipping, and I'd like to clean / service it properly (+apply carbon paste?).

Thank you very much!

When do registrations for the Traka 2027 open?

Hello all,

Does anyone know when registrations for the Traka gravel races/events in Girona, Spain open for 2027? I saw some website indicating last year they opened July 1st, is that about right?

Thanks for any insight!

Can I use a 9 speed chain on a 7 speed crankset?

I'm upgrading a 7 speed drivetrain to 9 speed with new derailleur, cassette and chain (Shimano Alivio). Can I keep using the original 7 speed crankset? Its a 1x up front, so shifting is not of importance. Will it lead to dropping the chain in the front more often? Thanks!

Rounded bottom bracket notches, what are my options?

Trying to remove a square taper bottom bracket. I only got about 2-3 turns of the wrench in before it slipped. Then it slipped again. Now the notches of the plastic bb are so mangled I cannot get a grip anymore. Other photo shows the drive side, which is untouched.

Yes I was turning the right way, with the right tool (Park tool BB-T22).

What are my options at this point to remove this? Thank you!

GRX 820 shifters: alternative rubber hood options?

As some of you may know, the GRX ST-RX820 brakes/shifters have rubber hoods that have a significant texture in them. Grooves or lines running down the hoods. I find these super uncomfortable during longer rides, almost abrasive on the hands, wearing into my palms.

https://r2-bike.com/SHIMANO-Hoods-for-STI-GRX-ST-RX820

Can I run GRX 600 style hoods, which don't have the grooves?

Can I run Ultegra 11 or 12 speed hoods?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello all,

I was curious: the Cannondale app tracks the mileage / hours ridden for your bike, and recommends three types of service. Since I do all my own maintenance, I was just curious what every type of service would include:

- Clean and lube bike, every 5 hours

- Bike tune-up service, every 25 hours

- Bike Full Service, every 50 hours or annually.

What do you think they mean by each type of service? Clean and lube bike is obvious. But what would tune-up vs full service include in your opinion?

Or if anyone works at a Cannondale dealership, what does it mean to you?

Regardless, 50 hours seems quick for a full service job to me? If I ride 10 hours a week, that is every 5 weeks...

Thanks for any insight!
