I tried, I really did.

Love season 1. Tolerated season 2. Got 5 episodes into season 3, then gave up because I was sick of how stupid everyone was being. (Looking at you, Hiro and Mohinder.)

At least season 1 was fun. I was especially fond of Hiro, Ando, and the Haitian. I can't say that I liked Noah Bennett, but I admired him. The guy is a badass.

Students who claim there are no requirements/instructions

Essays, in particular. I regularly get students who say either that there aren't any requirements or instructions (how did you know what to write, then???), or something that's obviously not the full set of requirements. For example, "It just has to be in MLA format."

What do you do with these people?

Help me settle a debate

Some context:

  • I am an adult woman with a job. However, due to truly ridiculous rent prices in my area, I still live in my childhood home, which my mother owns and also lives in.
  • She hates snakes. She's not mean to them--we found a baby garter snake on a walk the other day, and she carefully herded him off the sidewalk so he wouldn't get stepped on. (He was so cute; I wish I'd had my phone on me to get some pictures.) But she really doesn't like them.
  • Her primary concern is the smell of snake poo.

Her only experiences with pet reptiles are 1) an iguana she used to pet sit on occasion, and 2) a few snakes that my dad owned. (I believe he had a total of 5 corn snakes and 3 red-tailed boas over some years.)

The iguana, apparently, was a very stinky pooper. She says that she could smell it as soon as she stepped in the front door of that apartment. (I don't know how big the apartment was or how close the iguana's enclosure was to the door.)

Also a possible aggravating factor: My dad is a notoriously bad pet keeper. It's highly likely that he was not cleaning his snakes' tanks as much as he should've. I would be very surprised if he actually spot cleaned each poo as soon as it was produced.

So my questions are:

  1. Is it normal for iguana poo to be that stinky?
  2. Are snakes equally stinky? (I know that there's some variation, and that bigger snakes = bigger poo = more stink.) For context, I am mainly interested in smaller snakes like garter snakes, hognoses, rosy boas, and African house snakes. Truthfully, I'd prefer a corn snake, but I simply don't have room for an appropriately sized tank for a 5-foot snake. (Very excited about those new bantams, though.)
  3. What do y'all do with fresh snake poo? Wrap it up and throw it away? Flush it?
  4. How quickly does any odor dissipate once the poo is removed?

I hope this doesn't count as "dispute settling" (rule 12). I took that rule to be mainly about financial disputes, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Cute/pretty corn snake pics?

Hi! My mom hates snakes and is skeptical about the idea that they can be cute. I am trying to convince her otherwise. So I would like to request your cutest and prettiest snake pics, as evidence for my argument.

Edit: Goodness. I asked, and y'all delivered. To clarify: I am a grown woman with a job. (Don't mind my avatar, he's one of my old D&D characters.) I would be buying the snake myself, but it'll be 18+ months before I'll have the space. I live with my mom because rent is ridiculous around here, so part of my planning/research for a snake is a psy op to convince her that they aren't evil.

Actually tried the game for the first time

Loaded in as a horse. Got mugged by a pair of sabers less than 6 minutes later. 10/10, planning to play some more today.

Seriously, though, what are you supposed to do most of the time? Go to migration zones, eat plants, drink water, don't die . . . anything else?

Why do some people not like the Appaloosa horse skins?

What the title says. Is it because they're flashy and easy to spot? Or do some people think of them as being less authentic (even though spotting really is a very old mutation)?

New classroom glitch

I was filling out a Summary Feedback form for an essay, and it just . . . closed. Wasn't the usual crash/disconnect, it just shut the window and then reset me to "available." Anyone else had this happen?
