I am currently trying to decide on my next watch as a gift to myself for my 30th birthday. I have narrowed it down to either a Pelagos or a Ranger. Specifically, I prefer either the 39mm or LHD Pelagos because I like the red Pelagos logo or the 39mm black Ranger. I do spend a good bit of time on the water but really have no specific need for a dive watch. I currently daily an old well worn Oris Diver Date TT1 that literally never leaves my wrist. That being said, I have my bases covered when it comes to a big diver and am looking for something a bit smaller and easier to daily and wear to the office. I am a big fan of the Pelagos both from a look and functionality standpoint and like that it has a date window. I also really like the LHD for its increased water resistance, the helium escape valve, and the improved clasp. That being said the cost and issues regarding the lume plots and bezels freezing up have me questioning if the Ranger would be the better option. I’d also like to wear it on a nato strap on occasion which gives the Ranger the upper hand. I feel it just works a little better on one than the Pelagos. Also, the 21mm lug width of the 39mm Pelagos leaves me with limited options for straps. This leaves my options to the Ranger or LHD. While I am a huge fan of the Ranger, I do somewhat agree with the common opinion of it being slightly boring. However, I also don’t necessarily see this as totally being a con as it is probably a slightly better daily than the LHD not to mention the cost. All of these points being considered, any opinions either way would be much appreciated as I am at an in-pass on this decision.
