What even is that?

Got a call from a nervous neighbour who found this guy (girl?) in their laundry hamper.

The Jericho Scorpion (aka Nevo Yericho locally) is the largest scorpion species in Israel, and this one is an absolute unit!

Despite looking like a small armoured tank, its sting isn’t considered medically significant, and it is relatively mild-tempered compared to some of the other scorpions also found in this area.

The name is interesting too. Nebo (Nevo) refers to Mount Nevo in Jordan, while hierichonticus refers to Jericho, so it basically means the The Nevo Scorpion from Jericho. Apparently It was also chosen as Israel’s “national scorpion”, which I now know is a thing😅

Easily one of the more impressive scorpions I’ve found in the wild, and a great opportunity to get my kids involved in a catch and release

I've been keeping hissing cockroaches 🪳 for just over a year now, and although they definitely give wifey the ick, she's been begrudgingly tolerant of them. 🥇

That is, until she started finding fugitives around the house.

I keep them in a large plastic storage box with ventilation holes in the lid, covered with chicken wire. My best guess is that they're somehow squeezing through the space between the box and the lid, even though there barely seems to be a gap at all.

I've already coated the inside rim with Vaseline, but is there anything else I can do to make absolutely sure they stay where they're supposed to?

I don't think my wife can handle finding another one casually hanging out on the dining room table, and there's only so many times she's going to trap one under an overturned cup before the bug spray comes out. 😵

For those of you keeping hissers in large plastic tubs rather than tanks, what does your setup look like? Any escape-proofing tips?

Apparently hummus can sometimes spark surprisingly heated arguments about borders, origins, and cultural ownership. But perhaps hummus (and music) can also remind us that culture rarely stays neatly within borders. People share it, adapt it, argue about it, and hopefully enjoy it together.

So, in the spirit of spreading love and hummus rather than hate, are there any other hummus songs out there that deserve to be shared here?
