Upgrading mesh network after 10 years with Google Mesh

I have an old Google mesh system of 3 that I've had for maybe 10 years now. I have always had issues with wifi in my townhouse because a big gap between floors really blocks the wifi signal, so we get a significant drop-off in wifi speed on the floor above and below our main router, even though the actual distance isn't too far (and the points are as close as they can get while being on different floors.)

Is there any difference in more modern mesh networks that would make an improvement in my current setup? Or will modern mesh networks still have similar wall penetration capabilities?

Carnitas, white onions, Oaxacan cheese, and homemade salsa on a toasted Brioche bun (take 2)[OC]

My last post of this torta was popular. Made another one and took a better picture.
