This was posted on r/askcarguys but I was unable to add pictures there.

I’ve recently considered buying a 2002 Buick Century with 88,000 miles that has been garage kept for 4+ years.
I’m a home health aide and one of my clients was a trucker and hobby mechanic before he got very sick. After years of failing health he is currently on dialysis and downsizing his vehicles. He asked me to get the car inspected and roadworthy.

I took a picture of the dipstick before and after running it for 15 minutes. Because I’ve never seen oil that far up and assumed it was a fluke. After replacing the battery I checked all the fluids then started it up. Other than the dipstick everything looked good, just needed coolant added. The coolant tank had some dark sludge on the sides so I feared blown seals or gaskets.

I was concerned about driving it to the inspection and making whatever problem worse. The owner assumed it was because of sitting for so long. My boyfriend changed the oil and filter the next day. I assumed we would find more than the needed 5quarts in the pan. Nope, just under 5 came out. Oil looked lightly used. Not thick and black, not milky and no metal flakes in it. After driving the car around the block we checked the dipstick. Same issue, it’s 4” up from the gauge on the tip. My odb came back with no codes.

Inspection went great and mechanic said he saw no issues. So I’m coming to you guys in hopes of finding out what would cause this to happen. I owned a Buick years ago and it was a great car. A smooth ride and built like a tank. I had some jerk hit me from behind going 45 mph. The only thing that really broke was the impact bar and my trunk latch. I sold her to a college student when I bought a newer car. Regular maintenance kept her running for years and I honestly feel like newer cars are either going to break down quickly or cost an arm and a leg to fix. I would like to get this car. He’s only asking for $850 from me. I’m willing to put in the money needed to take care of it.

Would this be a mistake to buy? What causes do you know of that cause the oil to read that high?

ULPT: Cop calling liar causes chaos

I work as a home health aide. I started with a new client today whose house is on the corner. One of the first things in their care plan is to Use The Side door when entering. So I parked 2 car lengths from the stop sign. Tights streets everywhere in this town. To my left was an obviously overgrown and unused driveway. Assuming this was for the house I needed, to enter That Side Door, and clearly wasn’t in use I parked my car and clocked in at 12. Come 7:30pm the cops knock on the door to ask about my car. The neighbor claims that I’ve been blocking his driveway for 3 days and that’s why he called the cops. I moved the car and the cop came back to ask that I inform the company I work for and the homeowner that no one can block that driveway. He mentioned that he too believed that the driveway was for this home. The homeowner was on vacation until 2 days ago. So no one has been parked there for at least 3 weeks. Everything this neighbor said was a bold faced lie.

After the excitement I called the wife to let her know. Hoping she wouldn’t be upset with me for the cops coming here. Turns out this dirtbag called the cops on a water heater delivery truck driver even after the man offered to move, had called the cops on other neighbors for simple and stupid reasons (things that any neighbor would knock on the door or have a simple conversation about) and has made himself a well known nuisance in the neighborhood. The cops have been called 12+ times and he’s only been here 4 months.

So if any of you wonderful people have tips and tricks for how to make his life miserable… I would really appreciate it. I live 5 blocks away and will gladly come by, in a different car on my off days and cause chaos. I haven’t staked the area out yet for cameras but I do have a large stand up freezer for making piss disks. And might go home to make a few of those tire puncture “jacks” tonight. I’m not normally a petty person but his ignorance and grandiose lies rubbed me the wrong way. This is an older couple in their 70’s. The husband has very advanced dementia and they’ve owned this home for 30 years. Seeing as how the neighbor so confidently and arrogantly calls the cops… I feel like he deserves enough karma to make his head explode

I inherited a ryobi miter saw. I need a 45 degree cut and my saw said “ best I can do is 42” 😂 Please help

SOLVED! My saw is.5 off. So when I set it to 45.5 I get the proper angle. Thank you to everyone who helped me
I’m building a shelf in my basement to attach to the studs. I’ve built 2 sides of the brackets (22x22) and when I went to cut the 45 degree angle it looked wrong. I would like to know how to properly calibrate/fix this. I’m unsure of how much much this 3 degree variation would affect the end product. But considering the shelf will be load bearing I would much rather fix my saw than take my chances of a badly designed bracket. Any help would be appreciated

My property has been overgrown with non native ornamentals, grape vines and lots of these little trees. So far I’ve only been cutting at the base and painting on the brush killer. I would like to spray this area but I’m unsure what impact that will have down the road. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

The brand I’m using is BioAdvanced Brush Killer Plus concentrate
