Inspired by others here, I want to reprofile this axe head my coworker gave me.

Heck of a deal at a flea market today!

Delta variable speed scroll saw and two tool rests for my lathe, all for just under $50!

I've wanted a scroll saw for years now but didn't want to waste time with the HF version and couldn't justify spending the dough on something nice. Almost didn't bother asking, there was no price tag. Also got a small wood chisel but forgot to put it in the picture.

Chisel edged tanto inspired by classic Japanese designs. Blade is D2, handle is Oak. It didn't completely work, but I don't hate it either.

I had to plan everything out, shape and mostly finish the outside before I could even find out if the blade was going to fit. It's like baking I guess lol.

Machinists who do NOT live in the US, have you ever had an American who has moved to your country come work in your shop? How did it go?

I've been terribly depressed lately. I really feel like my world is ending, and the only thing that will make me feel better is a puppy.

This is my cry for whelp.

Really old Prototrak lathe threw this error message yesterday. It stopped mid-run and rebooted itself spontaneously. There was no interruption in the power as far as I could tell, no dimming or anything. This morning it booted fine.

This happened at the end of the day, it started to reboot and I went looking for the guy who fixes things. He was gone for the day.

I went back to the lathe and found this. I shut it down as normal. The guy was back this morning and I told him about the issue, but he couldn't replicate it. Obviously I showed him the picture too. He said we didn't have hardware keys so it shouldn't suddenly need one. 🤷

If anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Sometimes you have to make something poorly so you know how to make it well the second time. This is v2.0 of my froe mallet

The last shot is v1. This one is heavier, the handle is much more comfortable, and it has more working area.

From the Department of Intrusive Thoughts, I present the Reverse Nunchucks

Also available through distributors as The Unchuck!

I bought the rope for something else entirely but the moment I saw it I knew I wanted to make this.

I know it's stupid. I don't care. I had to or I'd still be thinking about it.

I made a froe and mallet. I will be making a second mallet.

The froe has a single bevel, approximately 25°. It's a strip of 0.175" thick steel I cut from a giant saw blade, about 3" wide

The handle is Padauk, but I screwed up by using carriage bolts. The big square lugs bit in a lot more than I had considered and split the handle. It works well enough, but I need to replace it sooner than later.

The mallet is kinda junk TBH. It was an oak log but the center was all splintery. Also not heavy enough.

Is there any way to stretch the memory in an older phone? I use Pandora for music and it's becoming more and more of an issue that opening other apps will crash it. I have no other issues with my phone, but this problem is getting annoying.

Moto G Stylus 2022.

I have gone through the apps and made sure there is nothing sneaky running in the background.

I know back in the days when I knew what's what with PCs, there was a trick to borrow virtual memory by using a bit of the hard drive for some of the functions. Is there any way to do something similar to keep Pandora from crashing?

45 [M4R] BFE, Arkansas. Liberal Athiest. If you live here you probably understand why that makes things difficult...

I'm a widowed 45yo (since 2015) with 2 older children, 17 and 19.

I am a huge NPR junkie, I love learning new things. I enjoy good stories, whether they are in a book or a video game or a show. My main hobby is my lathe, I love working with wood and the lathe lets me make beautiful things quickly. I am a big fan of standup comedy, and I have been told I'm funny. I also enjoy my Playstation, and I like to fish. I like some dogs but I'm definitely more of a cat person.

My musical taste is all over the map, from blues and classical to metal and hip-hop. Country is kinda burnt out of me after 17 years of living in Arkansas but I have even started to appreciate pop more than I used to.

I don't give a single fuck about celebrity marriages, "reality" TV, or professional sports (though I do enjoy going to football or baseball games in person, and I like the strategic depth of football but I don't have any particular team I follow). I can name a lot more political figures than movie stars. I voted for Obama twice, then Clinton, Biden, and most recently Harris. I'd eat broken glass before voting for a POS like 45/47.

In a friend or romantic partner, appealing traits would include compassion, empathy, wit, sarcasm, a readiness to laugh at the world and oneself.

Not sure what else I should list here, but I am pretty open if anyone is interested enough to ask. Some people come to Reddit to screw around and be anonymous dicks, I use it to be entirely myself because I can't with the people around me IRL. My post/comment history speaks for itself.
