Rekluse auto clutch shifting?

Hi all! Looking at installing a Rekluse Auto Clutch on a Raptor 700 for my wife since she's not too keen on using a clutch.

I get how the clutch works to engage and disengage with the centrifugal weights, similar to a snowmobile. What I don't get is how you shift between gears with it. Once the clutch is engaged and the motor and transmission is spinning, how do you upshift or downshift without pulling in the clutch? I know letting off the throttle will unload the drivetrain, but I don't get how it disengages the clutch if it's already spinning fast enough to be centrifically engaged. What am I missing? Anyone have a working knowledge of this?

Anyone have the Helix Pro?

Hi all! Getting a new bag finally since my luggage works is *literally* falling apart and their cost to rebuild it is nearly as much as a brand new bag. So might as well have another rollaboard in that case.

I'm heavily leaning towards the Strongbags Helix Pro. I'm looking for people who have *actual experience* with it, and not just someone's opinion of what they think it's like. How is it as a work bag? Is it comfortable and intuitive, or gimmicky?

Also no, I'm not buying a Briggs so don't bother recommending it, it's far too much for a silly bag and it doesn't have a pocket on the back for my stupid hat to fit into and I'm tired of losing it.

Looking at buying a 2008 Raptor 700...

Hi all! Looking at buying a used 2008 Yamaha Raptor 700. Anything in particular or specific to look out for or check on it?

Any known problems with them that stand out? Pic for attention.

Reputable sellers?

Hi all! I need a small excavator for some around the home projects and for the price of renting one for 2 or so days, it would make more sense to buy one and not have to cram all the work into 2 very long days.

I messaged a few sellers on AliExpress but so far they've all come back asking $7000-$12000, which is a whole lot more than I'm looking to spend.

Where are y'all buying yours from? Also curious if you're getting hit with any sort of import fees or tariffs?

Modifying trailer?

Hi all! Looking for advice. I recently purchased a used aluminum utility trailer. While it works well, it's a little small to put 2 ATVs on.

So I am thinking about cutting the side rails on one side and attaching hinges to it so it can fold flat and an ATV can be loaded on sideways.

I'm trying to figure out if these are structural for the trailers integrity and strength, or if they are superficial.

Anyone have any knowledge on this or ideas?

Bending old copper line?

Hi all! Wondering how I can bend this very old and hardened copper line on this school bus condenser.

I'm planning on turning it into an air dryer for an air compressor and I need one of the lines to be a low point for condensation to collect and be drained out. This one is the easiest to get to, so it seems like the likely choice.

If it can't be bent, option B is to cut it and solder a down pipe on it, but having never done that, I was hoping to skip learning cooper pipe soldering 😂

Any recommendations from the people that know?

YFZ 450 problems, running out of ideas...

Hi all, looking for advice or to see if someone else has had this problem and knows the cause.

Bought a 2004 YFZ 450 as a first quad. It started, ran, and drove. Took it on a short test ride and seemed fine.

Got it home, changed the oil, filter, coolant, air filter, replaced the headlights, and rerouted the clutch and throttle cable since they were wrong and binding. Emptied all the gas and replaced it with ethanol free.

Took it out to the dunes and it runs like garbage. It starts and idles, but it sputters and backfires (exhaust) mid RPM as well as loud exhaust pops on engine braking. More confusing, it will rev and accelerate with WOT just fine for 2-5 minutes. After that, it will bog down extremely hard and die, regardless of what I do with throttle, choke, or load. It is also blowing lots of oil out of the breather tube.

We took the carb apart, re-jetted it to factory, reset the needle clip to 4 (factory), cleared the carb breathers, did the exhaust cam mod, ensured timing was proper, bypassed TORS and the throttle safety switch, replaced the rectifier, verified fuel flows freely out of the petcock, and that the gas cap breather is working. Getting 13.4-13.8 volts at the battery during idle, so the stator seems to be working. Getting good spark with a new plug. Drained and refilled the oil to the bottom of the E on the dip stick, and it's still blowing oil out. Decomp seems to be functioning fine, and valves look like the open and close proper. Haven't checked valve clearances yet. The overtemp light illuminates when the starter engages, but never comes on otherwise, so I assume it's not overheating. The rad fan has come on a few times for about 60 seconds or so.

Feels like it has plenty of power when it pulls. Considering replacing the stator. Seems like something is giving up when it gets hot since the popping and backfiring gets worse as it gets hot. Very unsure about why it bogs and does after pulling hard for 2-5 minutes. Acts like the bowl is emptying of fuel, but I can't figure out how or why. Guessing the oil blowing out of the breather is the rings, but I can't see how that would cause it to bog down and die after revving and pulling hard for minutes.

Anyone have ideas or know what the cause might be? Running out of ideas on this one.

Has anyone ordered from Partzilla before? Any idea why a Fox shock would be $54? 😂

Learning TIG aluminum, keep getting contamination...

Hi all. As the title says, I keep getting contamination on my aluminum TIG. I've tried several different pieces of aluminum, including this fresh sheet. Cleaned it with IPO and acetone. Clean tungsten with a good grind. About 17 CFH argon flow. Gone all the way up to 40% electrode positive. Any more and my tungsten is balling badly. I've tried ramping up until it puddles and full current starts. Currently using a #6 cup, less than 1/4" stickout. I've tried slowing down. I can see the white etching around the puddle, but I still keep getting the dark contaminants

Anyone have recommendations for something I haven't tried, or a good idea of the cause of this?

Open water referral dives Hawaii

Hi all. My wife just finished her confined diving lessons and class work, and we're looking to finish her Open water cert in Hawaii at the end of August. Looking for recommendations on good diving outfits that do open water referrals.

Heavily leaning towards Kona since the diving there seems to be better than the other islands. I haven't dove Hawaii for at least a decade and 1 pandemic, so I'm sure a lot has changed.

Solid core door for blocking sound?

Hello all. We have an (old) HVAC and water heater in a "closet" in our master bath attached to our bedroom. It's loud when it runs because it's old and it moves a lot of air. The bathroom door is hollow core and is considerably louder than the walls, so I'm looking to replace it with a solid core door.

For those of you that have added solid core doors to block sound, how well did it work, and what kind of door did you use? Seeing lots of MDF "solid core" doors at the big box stores. Wondering if I'd have better luck with a solid wood door?

Also, what have you used to block sound at the base of the door? We have tile in the bathroom and if rather not add a raised threshold if I can avoid it.

Gas stove burner weak/low

Recently moved into a new place with a gas range. Right burner is substantially weaker than the left. It also is slower to ignite. I've removed the burner cap and cleaned everything easily accessible.

Any idea what would be a fix for this? I don't want to take it apart and tinker with it if I don't have to.

For those that know more than me...

First off, does anyone know anything about a Solas Supra YB 4-7? I can find literally nothing with that designation on the Internet anywhere, including the Solas impeller finder. Guessing it's a 14-17 impeller. Found it in my 1991 Yamaha VXR650.

Second, someone decided to run a healthy diet of what I assume was river rock through the pump because the leading edges were curled up to 90°. I did the best I could to flatten and clean them up because all it did was cavitate. I want to replace it, but I'm still looking through impellers. What do y'all think is the performance loss on this poor thing?

Lastly, how are you determining shim placement? I found 2 shims taped above the impeller not being used. Meaning they weren't actually shimming anything, they were just chilling above the nozzle.

How to find conduit exit?

Hi all, wondering if anyone has any recommendations or ways to find where this conduit exists or ends in the ground.

It's attached to the outside of the garage, and goes straight down into the concrete patio. I ran my cheapo boroscope down it and I'm fairly certain it makes a 90° bend about a foot down and heads out to the lawn. Unfortunately my 8' boroscope isn't long enough to reach or see the end of this conduit.

I should also add that it is empty and relatively clean. Some cob webs and such in it, but it's not full of dirt or debris.

TIA!

How can I improve my corners?

Hi all. DIY homeowner doing my first full drywall. I've only done a few patch jobs and such before. Got everything taped and mudded. Vertical corners went just fine, but the wall to ceiling inside corners seem to be a problem for me. Keep getting little blobs left behind. Using a 5" knife. I tried one of those inside corner 90° trowels but it didn't seem to work for me.

Anyone who actually knows what they're doing when it comes to drywall know what I might be doing wrong or things I can improve?

TIA

Plastic snap clips?

Hi all! Wondering if anyone knows what these plastic clips are called or perhaps their part number. They are what holds the rubber matting to the rear seats on a 2013 3.6R. Called the local dealership, they gave me a part number and description that isn't these and then told me "I don't know what to tell you, that's what we have, yours are probably aftermarket". Can't find much online for them either. TIA

First time finishing drywall questions

So I've been building an office addition onto my shop. Just finished putting up all the drywall sheets and am now learning how to finish drywall. I've done a few patches and such in the house, but never 0 to 100. So I'm looking for advice and someone to correct any steps I'm missing.

1: Pre-fill all the larger gaps at corners and such with setting type compound. Figured 90 minute compound would be my friend. Wondering about consistency/thickness of the mixed compound. I've seen people online say peanut butter thickness and others say more runny. What do y'all recommend? Figured apply this with a 4 or 6" knife.

2: Sand/scrape any high spots of the filler compound once dry. Pretty straight forward

3: Mud and tape corners and joints using green top premix compound. Using paper tape and applying with a 6" knife then a 12". Feather as much as possible because smooth is better than flat, or so I've read. Watched several videos on this, seems relatively straightforward, just a little bit of learning to do. Same question as before, what consistency? I've seen people say ""add water" but haven't found any ratios yet. Figured I'd add and mix water in the mud pan instead of the bucket.

4: After mud is dry, apply a second, wider coat over all tape, seams, and fasteners. Same as before, but thin and wide is my understanding.

5: After drying again, apply a very wide skim coat for a level 4/5 finish. Multiple coats of floating (idk how to use these terms) until it looks flat and especially smooth while looking down the wall.

6: Sand. Don't know much about this, but it seems like a round sander is the way to go, using light pressure and broad strokes.

7: Be unhappy and nitpicky about how it turned out while cleaning up *lots* of dust.

Figured for tools I'll need a 4 and or 6 inch knife, 10-12" trowel, and was thinking a 24" skimming blade since it seems less tedious and also easier for a beginner to get big flat strokes in. Also a mud pan and round drywall sander on a pole, along with some sanding blocks (sponges?). Anything I'm missing or you'd change or recommend different?
