PLS HELP MY APP IS DUE TMRW AND I STILL DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD DO THIS PROGRAM

ok so basically i did this internship (not very prestigious) over the summer and I had to pay around $2,000 (after financial aid). they offered me a staff position to "manage" as a worker for the staff program for next year (everything is paid for w $100 stipend), but the catch is that i have to pay for another internship which would be another $2000. I can also apply to some scholarships but i still dont know if i can get those. i would usually say no to this but all my friends are doing it and idk if i will get into any other programs... help would be much appreciated

HOW ARE PEOPLE MAKING THEIR 500M PEOPLE IMPACTED NON PROFITS THERES NOT EVEN ENOUGH PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE IN MY AREA WTFFF

i want to give up (chance me)

these cracked kids who all go to competitve schools and have so many opportunites while i had to get special permission to take AP psych sophomore year. im not one of them and i want to give up.

high school soph

middle class but some years we qualify for the under 200K financial aid

4.0 gpa UW bc my school is buns and its easy a's - 31 pre-act but i did like 2 practice tests so im confident i can get a 34-35 on the act hopefully

5 on AP HUG, taking ap sem, euro, and psych this year. bio, ab, and some other things i forgot. i do dual enrollment too the first one i did was related to autism (not neurological) and i got an A+ bc its a bs online course that they give 100% to everybody and their mom

Midwest, large suburb school (300 students in my grade)

was thinking of going into neuroscience but now idk anymore all these sweats make me question my ability of getting a scholarship to a good college

i was thinking of doing autism advocacy because im very passionate about it but I don't think i could do it as good as these other people when i dont want to start a non profit

some things i did

  • VP of Membership for my local HOSA chapter
  • Student Council 10th-grade class president and 9th grade class president
  • Part of the Stanford Neuroscience Journal Club i just joined this year
  • Blood Cancer United fundraiser soon
  • (SynBio Innovation Challenge) At Rochester Uni doing it soon alr signed up it's like a synthetic biology learning program
  • International Internship (Team Communicator- most important role) starts soon alr signed up its bs and a resume padder but idm
  • Did the Georgetown Advanced Neuroscience Internship submitted a paper waiting to see if it gets published or not
  • Hopefully starting art therapy sessions through Autism Society of (my state)
  • SMART teams where we research proteins and stuff i'm doing it this year because only 10th graders can do it
  • I have like 300 hours of community service with a clinic, my elementary school where i help teach special ed kids, and a bs nonprofit (250 hours are validated through Barbara James Service Award)
  • 12 hours of shadowing (heart surgeon and orthodontist)
  • I'm supposed to be an editor for a student-led journal that's pretty successful but it hasnt been doing anything for a while and i'm pretty sure the founder abandoned it.
  • 1st place at hosa state for a test and top 15 for healthcare issues
  • I did the Harvard University Summer Program in Anatomy and Physiology where our presentation was seen as most creative (bs award btw)
  • A Finalist in the Learning to Be Heard – Global Public Speaking Challenge by Immerse Education and TED Summer School, out of 2,000 applicants
  • I wrote a review article for the same journal I'm an editor for. I tried publishing to a more reputable one but was rejected. Ill try again.
  • Got rejected countless times from SRI and comps. i do some other things that are irrelevant.
  • Submitting to the junior breakthrough challenge prolly wont get far
  • Obviously i do sports which i'm not good at and i don't have any good achievements. I really like animating and will prolly start a youtube channel soon.
  • I babysit my brother and it counts as respite care because i do intensive care for him bc he is autistic. Maybe i could do it for other people.

idk if i should enter in an olympiad. i really dont want to tho bc so many other people do it.

tbh since im pre med i should be happy about going to a state school. idk tho

How to read research articles

Hello, I am new to research and have been reading articles on a topic I am interested in. I do not understand a single thing I am reading. Does anyone have any tips for understanding these papers?

Does anybody want to do a research project with me? Centered around neuroscience

I've heard it's better to have a partner to work through things like this. My research idea is specifically based around autism and graphs/coding (although not too much coding), so if that's ur cup of tea dm me! I have already reached out to a few mentors as well.

Here are some of the things I would like in a research partner:

Lives in the US (preferably Midwest area)

Going into 10th grade or above (need to at least know basic biology pls)

Knows about the topic or general field

Has experience writing a literature review and/or original research

Not an AI fiend (I mean it's helpful, but atp am I talking to the AI or you)

Ok with weird calling times (10-11 in the morning or night or smth like that)

anyways heres my list of basically the most relevant things I'm doing and will do (oml this took a while to do)

Stats:

  • 10th grade (rising), 4.0 GPA (unweighted), ranked 1/~300 p-act: 31 no study
  • Small Midwest public HS: 900-1000 kids total, only 17 APs offered, not well known
  • demographics/hooks: asian, midwest, brother w special needs
  • career: pediatric neurology with a sub-specialty in developmental disabilities (yes ik my ahh gonna be in school for 20+ more years yes i acc like school and want to do ts)
  • estimated aps taking: 9-11/17 and 9 DE

ECs (most relevant):

  • Editorial team member for a student-run journal (it's pretty well known and i review mostly neuro articles), reviewed 25+ student manuscripts (I also do a lil social media work too)
  • VP of Public Service Projects for HOSA at the school-board level (aiming for vp/p next yr), also got first at state in an ATC comp (didnt place at ilc fml)
  • Two-time Class President (~300 students)
  • Respite caregiver for a younger sibling with autism (this is basically my job)
  • Summer programs: Harvard's one-week Summer Program in Anatomy & Physiology (15% acceptance, won "Most Creative Presentation" last yr), and the Georgetown/Leadership Initiatives Advanced Neuroscience Internship (6.6% acceptance im gonna network so hard here)
    • i got rejected from sci-mi prolly but if i dont ill be doing that ig
  • Research: published a review article on prenatal cocaine exposure effects; submitted (not published but will try again) a piece on disorders of consciousness to Harvard FUSION RC
  • Submitted a research poster on stem cell approaches to autism treatment to UC Davis's Teen Biotech Challenge, results pending
  • TED Summer School Finalist (international) for a public speaking comp on autism and capability assumptions
  • 300+ volunteer hours, Gold Barbara James Service Award
  • Currently reaching out to researchers/mentors to develop my own research idea about autism
  • Might also do the Junior Breakout Challenge, and I am starting an Autism Society chapter in my county/surrounding counties for this project in the school yr. I have a really good idea for (also bc i want my brother to have friends outside of school)
  • im also gonna join this club called SMART teams where it's like research on proteins and u get to present it. might try for an exec board position. im also doing Peers 4 Peers bc i thought it was cool
  • IF and only IF i get a mentor i MAY try out ISEF. otherwise js tryna publish stuff

Goal: T10 schools

is this stack of ecs good or should i quit some

what other shi should i do sophomore yr

is isef something i should put work into

  • Might also do the Junior Breakout Challenge, and I am starting an Autism Society chapter in my county/surrounding counties for this project in the school yr. I have a really good idea for (also bc i want my brother to have friends outside of school)
  • Sports/arts: club + JV swim (varsity maybe junior year), 9+ years of Bharatanatyam (classical Indian dance)

Goal: T10 schools for pre-med/neuroscience, building a narrative around caregiving, autism advocacy, research, and a specific angle on advocacy.

Only rising 10th, I know it's early, but am I doing well, or am I overestimating how these programs/awards read to admissions? what shi should i do sophomore yr thooo

Where do you guys find awards?

Besides HOSA and DECA and ISEF all those big awards where else could you find little compeitions to do for awards? And does it really matter if you have them or not?

Reviewing Essay

Hello,

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask... would anyone be willing to review my literature review about DoC (disorders of consciousness)? I applied to a high school research competition and didn't do well, so I'm hoping to revise it and reapply next year. Any feedback would be really appreciated!

Review: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nTs-dO_9WDppSwb99YOO8m7oA8hgKy1GKuTa7WbWKuM/edit?tab=t.0

(To the moderators, I promise I'm not asking to have anyone else do my work. I want feedback.)

Do you guys think i can get into the ivies? (for context ive taken 42 APs and all the IB courses, and i have enough credits to be in grad school)
