let me start by saying i edited the background on these screenshots because we have a personal background that is too identifying.

my boyfriend (25m) and i (23f) have been together for 3 years and live together. he pays for all expenses and rent.

my friends invited me out to a drag show a week ago and i told him about it. he didn’t seem very enthusiastic but i didn’t think he was objecting to me going out. i’ve gone out before many times and he’s always a little upset when i do, but this time was way worse than usual.

after the drag show my friends wanted to go swimming at my apartment complex. it was late at night, but my apartment is literally right next to the pool. my boyfriend could have literally looked out the window at any time if he wanted to see what i was doing. my friends and i thought it would be a fun idea to just do an all nighter at the pool. i went to my apartment around 2am and told my boyfriend where i would be and he was extremely hostile and just told me to leave. i figured he was just tired and grumpy.

then he messaged me trying to break up with me. i decided to let things breathe rather than argue with him. he left for work at 5:30am and my friends and i were still at the pool having a blast. then around 6am we drove to a breakfast spot to end the night.

i had a great time but this just puts a damper on everything. if he wanted to go out with his friends all night, i would be supportive and happy for him, but he’s just more of a homebody.

am i wrong for staying out all night? i think his behavior is a huge blaring red flag. i love him and i don’t want to leave him, but i don’t know what to think. is his reaction valid since he pays the rent and all our expenses, or am i overreacting for feeling like his response was completely out of line?
