DaVinci Resolve Not Outputting DCI Cinemascope?

I'm experienced at video editing, but a noob at DaVinci Resolve. I'm working on an animation project and primarily am just using DaVinci Resolve to add some text overlays and additive dissolves at the start end end. Everything else I'm making in an animation software called Animation Paper.

Since I like Cinemascope as an aspect ratio, I'm producing the animation using what I've been told is the DCI standard for Cinemascope: 4096x1716. My canvas in Animation Paper is this and when I export from that program it exports at that aspect ratio.

I can't seem to get DaVinci Resolve to do the same? It imports the file and I adjust the pixels from square to 2.386, but it seems to only want to export as 3840×2160 for 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't mind the black bars, but I'm just a bit puzzled why I can't seem to export just at the Scope aspect ratio. I assume I'm doing something wrong and skipping some obvious step.

Ten Years of Shin Godzilla! (Fan Art by Me)

Working through my large pile of sketches that I hadn't gotten around to scanning in and lining/coloring yet, I cam across this piece which I could've sworn I'd posted online years ago but checking my galleries apparently I never did?

Just so happens people were posting pieces honoring the ten year anniversary of Shin Godzilla's release, so I thought: perfect timing!

No. 2 Pencil on 11x14 inch 80 lb. paper, inking and coloring done digitally in Krita.

Son of Ghidorah (Fan Comic by Me)

A while back while revisiting Rebirth of Mothra I decided to read the chapter in Writing Giant Monsters by John LeMay about it and learned an interesting tidbit: Desghidorah is, apparently, King Ghidorah's son and the original reason he was coming to Earth in Rebirth of Mothra 3 was to finish what his son started. The idea that Desghidorah is KG's son I found so fun that it inspired me to write up this silly thing. Enjoy!

Krita struggles with saving/performing tasks and outright freezes when closing projects

I recently updated to Krita 5.3 .2.1 from a 5.2.x.x (don't remember exactly) and have noticed some performance issues since I did so. In particular:

  • Saving projects or updating the Color Mask layers takes noticeably longer than before, sometimes up to a minute or more when doing a comparable project save or color mask in 5.2 might've taken just a few seconds.
  • Closing projects -- in particular closing all projects so I'm back at the opening screen showing all recently opened projects -- freezes the entire app. Sometimes if I wait 5 to 10 minutes it'll finish whatever it's doing and function again, but usually I end up having to use Task Manger to end the process and close it before I can use it again.

I'm not noticing any actual issues with using the brushes -- that runs very nicely and smooth as usual -- but the extra long processing for saving, updating color masks, and the app outright freezing if I close all the projects I had open has been annoying, especially since Krita ran smoothly and without issue back in 5.2. Any suggestions?

My PC:

  • OS:  Windows 11 Pro (64-Bit)
  • PROCESSOR:  Intel(R) N100 (800 MHz)
  • MEMORY:  16.0 GB
  • GRAPHICS:  Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)
  • ADDITIONAL NOTES:  SSD for hard drive

What's the history of 11x14 size paper? How did we end up with this size?

As an artist, I usually draw on 11 inch by 14 inch drawing paper. This size seems unusual and I cannot see any obvious reason for why this ended up a standard size? I've read the answer u/platypuskeeper gave on the history of paper sizes seven years ago, the logic behind the ISO standards is clear enough, and I get why North America has 8.5x11, 11x17, etc. But where the heck did 11x14 come from?

So in response to the Monarch Season 2 finale I've seen a lot of comments about how >!Rodan!< MUST be a second individual because >!KOTM said he'd been under observation since 1990 sleeping in that volcano in Mexico.!<

Yes, maybe that's the case.

BUT

I want to remind everyone that a huge element of the MonsterVerse is the secret history and Monarch's long history of lying to everyone about what's really going on with the Titans. Case and point: KOTM established that Godzilla hadn't been seen in five years but suggested Monarch knew where he'd been hiding, then Monarch came along and revealed that in reality he HAD been seen several times in between 2014 and 2019 but those appearances had been covered up. Let's not forget them covering up the MUTO's initial rampages in Japan as a "nuclear accident" and then later as an "earthquake". More than once throughout Monarch, Shaw in particular has commented on how Monarch loves to lie and hide the truth.

So, yes, perhaps Monarch has been monitoring >!Rodan since 1990!<. And yes, we know he eventually >!went to sleep in that volcano!<. But, let's not dismiss the possibility that KOTM lied to us and the reality is that>! Rodan wasn't asleep in that volcano!< all that time and that in reality he was active, but his activities were covered up by Monarch to keep the public and the rest of the government in the dark.
