History repeats itself.

It gives me immense pleasure to say that, in this regard too, Sam Raimi did a better job than Nolan. 🤭

I'm re-reading *Souten no Ken*. I can't help but wonder how Kenshiro Kasumi would fare in the original manga.

I’m putting this post under a spoiler tag for the sake of those following the new anime as their introduction to the *Hokuto no Ken* universe, since the discussion will involve characters who haven't appeared yet.

I find it really entertaining to imagine Kenshiro Kasumi facing off against the martial arts masters from the original manga, and not just for the sake of a trivial "who would win" debate.

Kenshiro Kasumi has a completely different attitude compared to his nephew; at times, he is less stoic and more sardonic toward his opponents.

I can picture him flashing a mocking smile at Raoh after a duel, just to goad him even further.

I admit it would be amusing to see him calmly light up a cigarette while facing enemies far beneath his level, like Jagi or Uighur.

Let's not forget that he is very cunning; he wouldn't fall for the tricks used by Amiba or Yuda.

But it would also be interesting to imagine his interactions with characters like Rei and Shu, starting out as adversaries and eventually becoming friends.

Why doesn't the Municipality of Rome rebuild my Mistress's temple? They waste money pointlessly on street cleaning and road maintenance, instead of using it for the important things!

But then, I knelt before her and promised to rebuild her temple; in exchange, all I wanted was to be trampled by her—I even shouted it out, and the people around me accused me of being crazy.

Some even wanted to call the police because they considered me dangerous.

I mean, can’t a simp pray to his mistress in peace?

Glittering, Bizzbell, and I set off to Mount Circeo to visit our Mistresses, who are worshiped as the principal goddesses. Wish us a safe journey.

even as when at the first they had gone to the couch and had dalliance together in love, their dear parents knowing naught thereof.

HOMER, ILIAD 14

[292] But Hera swiftly drew nigh to topmost Gargarus, the peak of lofty Ida, and Zeus, the cloud-gatherer, beheld her. And when he beheld her, then love encompassed his wise heart about, even as when at the first they had gone to the couch and had dalliance together in love, their dear parents knowing naught thereof.

I'm rewatching Fist of the North Star and rereading the comic as well. I've got a constant question in my head: how would Hera react if she saw that Kenshiro not only wears Callisto on his chest but that this constellation is the symbol of the martial arts he is the master?

Hokuto Shinken literally means "Divine Fist of the Big Dipper" in Japanese.

Is Heracles of the Orphic hymn actually the primordial god Chronos?

I've always been intrigued by the fact that this hymn seems to speak of the primordial god of time from the Orphic traditions, rather than the Greek hero.

Yes, there are references to the twelve labors and his hunting of monsters, but the description we're given is that of the god Chronos.

He's a self-born primordial, described as a dragon (a reference to the serpent scales he has all over his body), and his connection to time is mentioned.

So what deity would he be?

Is it a strange syncretism between the Greek hero and the Orphic god?

I remember that in some Orphic fragments he was called Chronos with the name Heracles.

Say what you will about the Roman versions, if a tradition makes Hera's son his father's favorite, that's enough to make it my favorite.

>Livy, Ad Urbe Condita, Book 8:

>"Janus, Jupiter, Father Mars, Quirinus, Bellona, Lares, Novensili gods, Indigeti gods, gods in whose hands we and our enemies find ourselves, Manes, I invoke you, I implore you, and I humbly ask your grace: graciously grant the Romans victory and the necessary strength, and cast fear, terror, and death among the enemies of the Roman people and the Quirites."

Yes, I know, Jupiter and Mars aren't the only ones mentioned in this prayer, but it's not the only time they're associated. I chose this quote because it's cool, and because imagining them destroying the Latin army at the Battle of Vesuvius is just too cool.

I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE LATIN SOURCES! IT'S CANONICAL!
