What made you stop drinking/using?

Hi all, just curious what made you decide to quit/get help. My partner is in active addiction and I feel like I've tried everything to help him but he still self-sabotages, isolates, and refuses to take any accountability. I've had to take a step back from him for a while because I can't continue watching him do this to himself. Of course, everyone is different but I am interested in hearing other people's experiences.

Getting over paralysing resistance to writing?

Like many (most? all?) other writers, I suffer from what we sometimes call 'writer's block' only I fear I have a chronic case. I have finished a good few short stories and have even published a couple in small literary journals, which I always thought would give me the validation that what I was doing was worth it. And it has, to an extent. It motivates me. But every time I sit down to write, I freeze. I'm lucky to get 200 words of slop, and then I'm irritated that I haven't written anything good so I don't write for a week. Lately, I've had some ideas for themes for a longer form piece (dare I say novel?) but I can never sit and get a plot down, and if I write random scenes about my character(s), they're flat and boring and awful. The typical storytelling/novel writing advice doesn't appeal to me as it's more genre-focused, whereas I read/write literary fiction. Any advice to break the cycle?

Mexican recommendations?

Visiting my mum in Milwaukee next month and looking for your fav Mexican joints, bonus points if they have a good happy hour, good salsa, and/or a strong marg. I live in Europe and can't get good Mexican food or a proper margarita (WI strength) within 500 miles so every time i visit the US I have to satiate my cravings. Favourite places include but not limited to Hector's in Wauwatosa (don't crucify me, i know its tex mex but their salsa is unrivaled imo), cafe corazon, jalapeño loco. Indulge my margarita daydreams til I can get my mitts on a jug 🙏

What kind of mental illness might somebody who is obsessed with a nationality have?

My long-term SO has developed an obsession with people of Ukrainian origin. He struggles with addiction and has been diagnosed with depression with the possibility of other mental illness but hasn't been fully evaluated yet. For the past few years, he has made ukraine is entire personality, without any connection to that group. We are from an entirely different part of the world. He talks to ukrainians online and baits them into saying he may as well be ukrainian or that it is his fate to travel to ukraine and live there or join war efforts. He has isolated himself from his friends and family in favor of these people he talks to online or the odd person from ukraine who lives in our city. He believes they have his best intentions at heart and looking out for him when they have done things like called him a moral failure for struggling with depression or advised him to stop taking his medication for depression and anxiety. I am really worried about what effects this could have, does anyone know what kind of mental illness or trauma could cause it? Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with Cuan Dara detox programme?

My partner has been referred to Cuan Dara for a benzo detox, but there's not too much info online about the facility or programme aside from that it's medical led. Any info is appreciated, cheers!

Does anyone else suffer this much?

I know it is subjective of course, but I've just finished day 3 on the primitivo and I find the pain in my feet and legs by the end of the day extreme. I am an active person back home and walk everywhere/frequently hike but this is just next level. I'm starting to question my own capability. Today i thought my last 7 km would defeat me, coupled with the lack of shade or places to take a rest and by the time i arrived at my albergue my feet were numb, and when i took my boots off they were stinging like knives. Tomorrow I've got a long, hot day ahead of me and I'm dreading it. I also am not getting nearly enough sleep in the albergues so I'm sure that doesn't help. Anyway just was wondering if anyone else felt like this or if I'm really not fit to do it!

Travel advice for getting from Madrid to Oviedo?

Hi everyone, I'll be starting my first camino (and first time in Spain!) next Friday. I'm doing the camino primitivo starting in Oviedo, but I'm flying into Madrid Thursday. My flight arrives at 9.55 and I want to get to Oviedo via train at Chamartin station. There is a train at 11.23, would it be possible to get to the train station with this amount of time? I have an EU passport so I don't imagine I would get held up in the airport. Normally I wouldn't want to push it this close but the next train isn't until 3 pm and I'd rather use this extra time in Oviedo rather than sit around the airport/train station. I know this is a very speculative question but maybe those who have traveled in Spain/Madrid have some insight? TIA
