Water leak + angry neighbors = worst day ever

I’d just gotten home from work, absolutely exhausted. Barely functioning. All I wanted was to eat something and collapse into bed

Then I heard the knocking. Then the banging…

And somehow I already knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasant conversation

It was my downstairs neighbors and people I’d maybe exchanged two words with in my entire life. The second I opened the door, I knew exactly what this was about

Some weeks earlier… I started realizing that there was water accumulating around the corner of my tub every time I had taken a shower. It wasn’t much. Just some puddles. But every time I told myself I would take care of it later on. The rug will take care of it until then

Well, later finally came knocking

My neighbors were furious. Their ceiling had wet stains spreading across their bathroom and even into their dining room. I couldn’t even argue. I knew exactly where it was coming from

After a long, awkward conversation, they calmed down a bit and but not before a few insulting words were exchanged. They suggested I call Top Flow Plumbing Services in Wollongong because they’d used them before for another issue in the building

I braced myself for the worst. Tearing apart tiles. No water for weeks. Huge repair bills.

But the plumber came quickly and I found them online and they arrived within a couple of hours, thank goodness. They found the problem fast: a hidden leak around the bathtub drain and damaged sealing that had been slowly leaking water between the floors. That’s why I only saw puddles on my floor while water was seeping down to my neighbors

Somehow, they managed to fix everything in about four or five hours. I was using my shower again that same day

I’m not exaggerating when I say that felt like a blessing after the stress of that entire day

Anyway, if water is showing up where it shouldn’t, don’t keep kicking the can down the road like I did. And don’t wait for your neighbors to come banging on your door at the worst possible time

added home pilates to my routine and planning to do it with my daughter

my current workout is mostly gym sessions three times a week with some running on the side but i have been feeling like i need something more focused on mobility and strength without leaving the house. i ordered a home pilates reformer and i am thinking of starting sessions with my daughter so we can do it together a couple times a week.

how do you fit pilates into an existing gym routine without overdoing it? what are good beginner exercises on a reformer that work well for both adults and teens? any tips for making it a consistent habit at home?

How did you guys learn the ropes of running a restaurant?

Was it business school, podcasts, YouTube, or just... pure trial by fire? My parents have a pretty successful spot and they’ve been grinding gears for years trying to get me to take over so they can finally retire. It’s definitely not my life's passion, but since it’s already fully set up and making money, it feels kind of crazy to just walk away from it.

Attic Story: found a wasp nest and rotted rafters

I climbed into my attic last weekend with a simple goal… replace some old ventilation ductwork. Simple DIY project, maybe an afternoon of work

2 hours later, I was sitting on my kitchen floor, questioning every life choice that led me to homeownership

And what do you think was the first thing that I found? Well, it was a wasp’s nest huge as a basketball ball. Now, that is one big wasp’s nest. And not only was it big, but it was also sitting there as if it owned the whole place.

Then I moved some insulation aside and my heart sank

Several rafters were soft. Rotted. I poked one with my finger and it just… gave. Turns out there's a tiny, almost invisible leak around a plumbing vent. Probably been dripping for two years. Just enough to keep the wood damp, not enough to stain my ceiling below

The nest I can handle. But rotting rafters? That's beyond my skills

I've been calling around for estimates. One local roofing company came up in my search and they're local, seem to have decent reviews, proper GAF certifications. But honestly? I have no idea what a fair price looks like for this kind of repair. Am I looking at a few hundred bucks? Thousands?

I keep thinking about that moment in the attic. The way the wood is so soft. The idea of something being so critical and deteriorating right before my eyes

How expensive has it been for you to do a work like this? What kinds of questions am I supposed to ask contractors? This is all so new to me and frankly terrifying

moving to miami and wanna build home

we are relocating to miami later this year and want to build a custom home instead of buying existing to get exactly what we need for our family. the process seems complex with local regulations and hurricane standards that add extra steps compared to other areas.

we found jmk online and they seem to specialize in custom homes there with good reviews on transparency using 3d scans for accurate planning. what are the main costs to expect beyond construction like permits and impact windows and how long does the full process usually take from design to move in for a typical family home in the area?

A friendly reminder that your Shopify store doesn’t need to look perfect to start selling

I’m saying this mostly because I wish someone had slapped this into my head earlier: your first Shopify store doesn’t need to look perfect. I spent way TOO much time tweaking dumb little things. Like, one day the homepage looked “pretty good,” then I’d check some competitor and suddenly decide my buttons were wrong, my product cards looked cheap, the font wasn’t “premium” enough, blah blah blah. Next thing I knew, I had spent another night changing spacing instead of doing anything that could actually bring in sales. Painfully dumb in hindsight, but hey, we live and learn.

The weird part is that I kept calling it “working on the store.” But honestly? A lot of it was just procrastination dressed up as productivity. I wasn’t testing offers, improving product photos, writing better descriptions, checking checkout flow, or figuring out shipping/trust stuff. I was just rearranging deck chairs.

At this point I’m trying to treat design as “good enough until the store proves what it needs.” So yeah, if you’re new and stuck in theme-editing: pick a clean design, make sure people can understand what you sell, and launch the damn thing. You can always fix ugly later. You can’t learn anything from a store sitting in draft mode.

How long did you guys mess with design before finally publishing?

first wedding dance help needed nyc

we are getting married in new york on june 28th and are starting to panic about our first dance. neither of us can dance at all and the thought of everyone watching us struggle up there is stressing us out.

we both want to do a simple slow song but still look decent and not awkward. we went to a studio and they said 4 lessons should be enough for a basic routine. we are thinking of booking more because we are really bad at this and worry 4 wont cut it.

how many lessons did others take for their first dance if they started with zero experience. would 6 or 8 be better for beginners who want it to look smooth?
