How many of you DCA + Lump Sum?

I lump sum my annual bonus in Feb and do a weekly DCA the rest of the year. I always hear about the arguments of one vs the other and how lump sum always beats DCA (which I do not dispute), but why don't people talk about or encourage doing both?

Need a 3rd MLP (non-ETF)

I currently hold ET and EPD in a taxable account and am looking to add a third MLP. I’m comfortable with K-1s and am not looking for ETFs, strictly the actual MLPs themselves.

For context - these are long-term (40 year) buy and holds that I will be regularly contributing to.

Options include MPLX, WES, or PAA. Other choices on my radar would be CQP or SUN.

Would appreciate a steer in the right direction on which offers the best long-term complimentary fit alongside ET and EPD, whether that be growth or stability oriented. Would also welcome if there is an obvious "go with this one and don't overthink it" choice.

Thanks in advance.

State Street Portfolio Allocation

Everybody's got a type, and my type is State Street Low Cost ETFs. Feedback welcome on this allocation. SPDG stands out as overlap but I really like the strategy so I'm putting some money into it. International being 25% is a deliberate choice to go lower than standard market practice of 40%, simply because I'm much more bearish on international than consensus.

US:

- SPYM (S&P 500) - 50%

- SPMD (S&P 400 Mid Cap) - 10%

- SPSM (S&P 600 Small Cap) - 5%

- SPDG (S&P 1500 Sector Neutral Dividend) - 10%

International:

- SPDW (Ex-US Developed World) - 20%

- SPEM (Emerging Markets) - 5%

Thought Experiment: 3-fund portfolio of S&P 500 Large Cap + Growth + Value

Putting aside that common guidance dictates you diversify, and that this portfolio is essentially tripling down on S&P 500 but with different tilts, if you went with a portfolio of S&P 500 Large Cap + Large Growth + Large Value, how would you balance it and why?

Personally, I'd probably lean 70/20/10 Large/Growth/Value, given growth is still heavily tech which I believe will continue booming more than value which is more financial services and health care

Trump Accounts = FatFire for Kids Retirement

Did a search and didn’t see anything discussed here.

I have 3 young kids aged 8, 5, and 1. I plan on contributing the max 5K to all 3 kids each year and teach them to leave the accounts alone till 60, because assuming an average annual return on SPYM to be 10%, they could each have accounts numbering in the 10s of millions.

Additional benefit is converting the account to a Roth IRA at 18 for each so the compounding from then grows tax free (Assuming the legislation continues to allow for that then).

A lot of folks seem to compare this account to 529 but the accounts serve two very different purposes in my eyes, 529 is to get educated and get into the workforce, 530 is to comfortably exit the workforce.

From my lens - this seems to be a great way to create FatFire for kids in a tax advantaged account with a tax guardrail to help encourage them to not touch till retirement.

Feedback welcome if there are any considerations worth discussing or if others here are seeing the use of the accounts in a similar fashion.

Tip: If your steam button and ... buttons work intermittently and/or register delayed presses

And you have a micro SD card, remove it. I'm a day 1 deck owner, and I constantly had issues with the steam button and ... button working intermittently, finally reimaged the deck and everything was working flawlessly. When i reinserted the Micro SD card the issues cropped up again. That was my a-ha moment. I took the SD card out, reimaged again out of an abundance of caution, and so far so good.

I can't tell you if you'd need to reimage and then not reinsert the micro SD card to clear up the issue, and I can't tell you if the issue was a faulty SD card or a faulty SD card reader or SteamOS just over-polling the SD card resulting in memory leaks that would result in controller presses being registered intermittently - but this seems to have finally solved an issue I've had for years and wanted to share in case it helps anyone else.

For those who will do blind draft pick bidding for Sorsby, what app will you use?

For those of you who will follow the same approach as the NFL and do blind bidding of draft picks for Brendan Sorsby, what app will you use? In our case, I’m the commissioner and I may want to bid on him so having the picks come to me isn’t a tenable solution. Curious if something like survey monkey or something similar could be used here where we all submit our choices then after a period everything is revealed.

BodyCombat VR Beginner Guide?

Hi, just got the app for the Meta Quest 3 - is there a guided playlist or something that will take me from "couch to exercising" in a set amount of time by doing a list of suggested workouts in XYZ order? Or am I meant to simply pick at random for what my body can tolerate? Any online guides I can reference or guidance available would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This feels like an interesting comparison for two players we can expect to see at the tail end of the draft. Yes, both will almost certainly amount to nothing but if one is a 98% bust and one is a 99% bust, I think we'd all rather have the guy with 2% upside vs 1%.

We'll keep it strictly to football and put the personalities to the side.

Taylen Green:

  • PRO: great measurables
  • PRO: actually drafted
  • CON: Has a ton of QBs in front of him
  • CON: per DLF - "he needs a lot of work on his reads and diagnosing NFL defenses, making many believe he's simply the next Trey Lance in the NFL"

Diego Pavia:

  • PRO: Heisman runner-up
  • PRO: has an opportunity for QB3
  • CON: Was not drafted
  • CON: Doug Flutie levels of short
