Second opinion palate expansion VIVOS vs. MARPE, 19F- 29mm intermoral width
I’m 19F recently had a consultation with a holistic doctor for narrow palate, breathing issues, TMJ, jaw recession and tightness in body. I really need advice here. 🥲🥲
She measured my intermoral width did not use a CBCT. I can’t fit my tounge on the top of my mouth all the way, I also previously had braces and teeth extracted for crowding. She has said I had a tongue tie, upper and bottom lip tie. Incorrect swallowing pattern/tongue function, and a narrow palate.
Since she is holistic, she would not be using MARPE/MARSPE her plan would be myofasical therapy, myobrace appliance, VIVOS for expansion and maybe physical therapy. I have an upcoming Zoom to go over my 2d photos, and pricing.
I’m considering it, but because this could be pretty expensive, I really want a second opinion before committing to anything. I found an orthodontist near me that offers free consultations and says they do airway-focused orthodontics, so I’m planning on seeing them too. I’m going to ask whether they do MARPE or another form of skeletal expansion and whether they evaluate tongue ties.
I’ve also done a lot of research on tongue posture/myofunctional exercises and feel pretty confident that I could work on a lot of the tongue-posture stuff myself, so I’m wondering if paying for a large therapy package is actually necessary.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a narrow palate as an adult, Vivos, MARPE, tongue-tie release, or myofunctional therapy. \\\*Especially interested in experiences with what actually helped, what didn’t, and whether getting multiple opinions was worth it.
Especially since I’m only 19 and with limited parent help for financials.
